Sparks danced around a short, orange-haired boy. He was hard at work, transfixed on the table in front of him. His welding goggles protected him from the sparks and the world around him. This boy’s name was Zeke, and he was doing his job. What was this job, you ask? Don’t be so pushy, readers. You’ll find out in a bit.
Anyway, the boy gives a smile and takes a deep breath. It’s finished!
Or, it might be. He needs to test it, of course. He kept the goggles on as he pressed a small, red button on his project. It chirped, and an arm extended to take his jacket. He beamed as it worked. His robot worked! Yes, he built robots for a certain company.
Metallic Life Inc. was his job, and he designed many prototypes of the robots that are used in his city.
Which meant this was simply a prototype. The machine froze, setting out a few sparks. He gave a small sigh. That was better than before, at least. There was a knock on the door of his messy office. He looked up, turning off the machine and removing his goggles as he went to the door. As he opened it, he gave a small normal smile.
There was his boss. She stepped into the room, returning the tiny smile.
“We have a project for you.” She said after clearing her throat.
“Yes?” He questioned, cocking a brow.
With a sigh, she nodded. “AI. Artificial intelligence. What brings down every company. It’s time to try it.”
He stared at her, eyes wide, “You want me to do it?”
“You’re… the best worker we have, Zeke.” She replied.
“I’m nearly eighteen, miss! I’m barely old enough to work here!” He argued. He didn’t want to ruin this company’s reputation. Everything would be on his shoulders if he took this job. But if he didn’t, he would be crushed anyway. She nodded solemnly as his shoulders slumped.
“Okay. Okay, I'll do it.” He murmured carefully. “What exactly do you want the machine to do?”
“Anything. Just give it personality. Thanks, Zeke. My job's on the line." Was all she said before stepping out, leaving Zeke with his jaw practically on the floor.
