Rina and Jaxon are celebrating their sixth anniversary. They don't have a lot of money, evidently living in Far Rockaway, but they're happy.
They're spending the evening with a few friends; one of them is a Resistance member, Amal, but it doesn't matter. They have been friends for years.
LaShay brings in a few bottles of champagne, gifts from a friend on a better part of town.
LaShay: Congrats y'all!
She pops open two bottles with her thumbs, obviously previously loosened. White foam spewed everywhere and mixed with the hand made confetti The Boys made.
Rina; Ahahahaha, thanks guys. This was real nice of ya.
Things go on normally. Like there's no virus or Resistance right outside the dingy door of the run-down apartment.
Amal isn't estranged to them, there's no reason for it. Occasionally, there are times when he up and leaves , but that's only because he's infected.
A few drinks into the night and the group is talking Resistance.
Clyde: So, what's up with the riot earlier? Ain't that like, the third this month?
Jaxon: Well, they some crazy putz, I mean-
Rina: Jax.
Everyone grows uncomfortable and silent.
Amal; We're not crazy, just driven.
LaShay: ... but ... what are you driven for though?
Again, everyone is quiet. They want to know the facts. One of the infected had been taken in my the police but they refused to talk. Said they would rather die than say anything. That individual is probably still in some kind of holding center, only brought out when the police try to break him again.
Amal: I won't tell you why, but its a good reason. We shall come out on top. We shall lead everyone. This I know to be fact.
Dontey: Word is, the police said that y'all won't stop till you take the government.
Amal: Its not like we got infected and we're bent on taking on the system. We believe in one thing, we follow one thing, we love one thing. That is our drive, our purpose. The purpose tells us our duty and we follow it through.
Rina: So its a person then?
Amal pales. He says nothing. Face stilling, he gets up and leaves, just like when a riot is about to take place.
Rina may be poor, but she's smart. If she had went to college and gotten a high-up job, she would have been the person to talk to when things like this happened.
Jaxon: I think you made him mad.
Rina: Whatever, more booze for us!
LaShay: Hold-up gurl, share!
Rina discovered something quite notable. The infected weren't based on just over throwing something; like a zombie is based on eating brains. Somethings behind this. Someone has the mind to fool people and administer them a contagion.
