Uncle Andrew continued to rant on and on, "Kids are honestly so stupid. They make horrible decisions and don't even think of the consequences! Do you remember that kid that used to be in your class? What was his name? The one that liked you a lot?"
Andi groaned, "Are you talking about Nick? What did he do this time?"
Nick was the handsome player of her graduating class. He would always try to use horrible pick up lines to get a date. He was insistent too. He picked wildflowers and placed them on her desk every day. It was sweet at first, until she realized he did this to all the girls. She remembered ignoring him which only made him more obsessive with her. Nick would try to hold her hand and kiss her whenever he could. It wasn't until screaming Andi waved her stick around like a freak, chasing him throughout the town that he finally stopped. She hadn't seen him since.
"Yes that's the boy! Nicholas!" Uncle looked around and lowered his voice, though Andi didn't know why since no one ever came. "I heard a rumor, that he left the valley to climb Mount Himmel."
Andi jolted up, shocked " What do you mean he left? How can he just leave?" No one left the valley, it was forbidden. Everyone who was born here died here. Those who tried to leave were never seen again. It was said that the mountain range surrounding the valley was cursed. It was rumored that demons and spirits would descend upon the earth at night and kill anyone that tried to leave the sleepy town. At first Andi thought it was merely a scary story to keep children from exploring too far, but as she grew up she couldn't help but notice just how serious the adults talked about the mountains. If an entire town was too afraid to leave than it had to be more than superstition.

Uncle shrugged, " He just woke up one morning, before everyone else. He had no one to stop him and he took to the trail. He's been missing for a week. I'm betting you he stayed up too late and a spirit took him! Gave him mountain fever! Poor lad." "...Nick, is dead?" Andi thought. The hazy memories of Nick smiling brightly with messy handful of dandelions flooded her mind.
