No pulling punches, that's for sure. As I said, Nagendra doesn't put up with much and would rather insult you to your face than behind your back, that's for sure. But he's kind of the resident "nice guy asshole" so everyone just accepts it.
Those creatures you see in the background are "Lesser Beasts," things created by the humans that have made permanent residence on the island. They're a combination of pets, livestock, heavy labor, and security and they're all over the island at this point. The Dust Children don't really like them, in all honesty.
The island is also pretty big, so it takes a long time to just walk across is from the main city to any of the outlier islands within the lake, where some of the more reclusive Dust Children live.
