I applied shading to the pages using SAI and then running the shading through some photoshop filters to get that halftone effect. Then I used to export a PNG file with just the resulting halftones, and merged that with the lineart. In retrospective, it was a really cumbersome process... but not as much as using ACTUAL halftones, right? :)
