When I accepted the fact that he was a werewolf, I obviously knew that he had a human form. But it just sank in now, when I saw him peek outside the door in my extra-large clothes.
He looked at me and said, " Uh... I'm done? " Clearly not knowing what else to say.
I nodded swiftly and rose to head into the house. " Careful, Ninya... " Daen whispered. " One scratch on her and you'll be dead before you know it. " Pedro growled at him.
Felix looked at my arm where he had clawed me and then at Pedro and nodded. I quickly looked away knowing that his blue eyes would lure me in again if I kept looking.
" Have a seat. " I said as I prepared the stove. He sat down without a word but I could feel his sight never leaving me.
Finally breaking the silence, he asked, " May I know your name? "
" ... Lyla. " I said as I continued without looking back at him. " And your pack's name is? " He asked after a moment of thinking. " Laneri. " I answered nonchalantly.
Bringing the hot soup to the table I asked, " Shouldn't I be the one asking the questions? " My tone stark cold in irony to the hot soup that I pushed towards him.
" Go ahead. " He said looking up at me as he blew his soup.
I took a seat across from him and placed my bowl of soup in front of me. " Who attacked you? " I started.
" I don't know. " He answered immediately.
" How did you end up so far away from your pack? " I followed up. " I don't know. As I mentioned before, I got lost and I had been running for too long already by then to remember where I was or what I was doing. " He replied as he tried to sit comfortably.
In his attempt to do so he accidentally hit his leg to the leg of the chair and silently winced in pain.
I was almost about to ask him how he was feeling when I pulled myself back. Sympathy and kindness were not what I wanted to show him.
" How old were you when you first shifted? " I asked in the same monotonous tone. " Huh? " Felix asked as he snapped his head up to look at me.
The question had caught him off guard as I saw his expressions change. The formal, in-command and mighty alpha expression that I had gotten used to from the time he started talking to us was no more, as I saw his expression change visibly into disbelief and confusion.
" What has that got to do with anything? " He asked, his voice as husky as ever, as he narrowed his eyes and leaned back into his chair. His expression was curious but guarded at the same time.
" Answer. " I said as I stared back at him. And after a moment of silence when he realised that I was being serious, he leaned forward again and said, " Fifteen. " As he resumed eating his food.
I looked at him in silence. Fifteen. He shifted a year before I did, I thought as I continued to observe him.
His table manners were perfect and as he elegantly lifted the spoon to his lips, I noticed the scars that ran down his hands and snuggly hid under my long-sleeved shirt.
His chiselled face was lightly contoured with bruises and his hair drooped to the side with the remains of the water from his bath.
The remarkable blue eyes of his were laced with long eyelashes that looked like they were kissing his skin whenever he closed his eyes.
There was no denying it, he had to be the most handsome man I had ever met. Or maybe it was because I was actually paying attention to a man for the first time.
I closed my eyes with a frown to stop my thoughts from wandering and asked, " How many ...shifters are in your pack? " It just stung to use the word werewolf now.
We had never talked about werewolves or where I could be from when I chatted with Daen and the others. And when I was learning more about our history, I always shrugged those parts aside since I knew there was no point in dwelling on them when I had no way to figure out who I was.
But now with someone else of my kind sitting opposite to me, things were different.
" Hm... Thirty. " He replied after contemplating for a moment whether or not to tell me.
Th..thirty?! I gasped internally and felt Felix's questioning gaze on me.
I needed to clear my head and get some air, I thought as I felt the familiar surge of emotions overcome me.
" Uh... The bed is upstairs. But since you can't climb the stairs, you can sleep on the couch. I've already put the bedsheets and the ointments for your wounds there. " I said as I got up and placed the bowls in the sink quickly, trying to finish my work as soon as possible so that I could get out of here.
" Thank you. What about you though? " He asked as he slowly got up from his chair while holding onto it for support.
" Uh... I'll probably sleep with my pack. Or uh... come back upstairs later. I don't know. " I answered vaguely, my thoughts not here anymore.
Picking up on my feelings, he frowned and said " Alright. " with a nod and made his way to the couch.
I was already heading towards the door by then.
I knew he needed help with dressing his wounds. There was no way he could do them all on his own.
But the swirling anger and sadness inside me left no place for kindness and sympathy. I quickly closed the door behind me and jogged out, leaving him bewildered.
