Aether teleports to the woman again and faces off with her. Aether quickly teleports behind the woman; she expects his attack pattern and vanishes right before Aether completely materializes. It appears the mysterious woman is copying Aether's spell.
Aether continues to chase the woman for a while and the two come to a stop; the two stare each other down.
The woman's demeanor changes and her once calm expression slowly morphs into one of complete madness and lunacy.
“Your time will soon come, False Space Lord... For now, heed this warning, this generation's Lords will fall by the hand of Chaos...!” She yells out as mana and aura around her rages like a forest fire.
Aether looks at the woman and then down at his shadows; his shadow starts moving towards the woman as if it were being sucked in by a vacuum.
Aether then forms hook-like tendrils to latch on to his shadow; suddenly, his older brother, Chronos suddenly appears alongside him.
“Getting yourself killed, as always,” Chronos chuckles.
Father closes his eyes and quickly opens them revealing the same
golden eyes that I have whenever I uses my Time-Stop ability. Uncle Aether does the same, however, his eyes change to a deep
purple color, “And the Keeper of Time is late, as usual” he rebuttals.
The two brothers stand facing the immense presence the woman is emitting.
“Time and Space, I'll bend thee to my will,” the woman cries out. The woman reaches her hand out to form a spell while the two brothers brace themselves for her attack.
The mysterious woman sticks her right hand forward, “Chaos Bindings,” she calls out. Blood red tendrils shoot out from the woman's fingertips and pierce both men in the shoulder; she then slowly retracts the tendrils, and the two mages stand to their feet.
Chronos claps his hands together, “Sand Signature: Sand Golems”. The surrounding sand begins to collect around Chronos and form into a body double.
Aether holds on to his left shoulder with his right hand. He stands upright and swings his left arm to the side, “Space Signature: Void Winds”. A shadow begins to form in front of Aether's feet and once it reaches size, the shadow lifts and detaches itself from the ground.
The floating shadow forms into a ring with a purple vortex in the middle. The vortex begins to swirl rapidly and causes a vacuum. The huge gust of wind sucks Monspeed out of the mysterious woman's hands; as he flies towards our uncle, his psychosis breaks.
I managed to make it back to the courtyard just in time to get Monspeed to safety, meanwhile,
Father's sand golem rushes in for its attack. The golem throws a punch that the woman easily evades, “Pitiful,” she spits; with a wave of her hand, the sand golem is dispelled. As the sand double crumbles, however, a purple-colored tendril shoots out and lands a devastating blow on the woman.
“This is dragging on longer than I'd like,” Uncle Aether states.
“You’re right, I'll wrap this up,” Father closes his eyes once more and claps his hands together. “Aspect of Time: Time Signature: Dismantle,” from the leftover sand from the previous spell, spikes of sand jut out and strike the woman, sending her flying backward and leaving her disoriented.
The woman struggles to get back to her feet; she looks toward both Aether and Chronos. “The false Lords of this generation will fall...
And Tiamat's rage will live on for eternity,” the woman cries out. She slowly and eerily stands, as though her body were being inflated like a balloon, as Father aids Aether to his feet. The woman spreads her arms out and begins to chant backward. She begins to glow a bright orange color and tribal-like markings appear throughout her body.
“I've got a bad feeling about this,” Aether sighs as he throws a shadow in mid-air like a shield and braces for impact. The woman continues to glow, and the area steadily gets hotter, as though the two were in the inside of an oven.
Suddenly, there is a flash of white light and a high-pitched ringing that can be heard. The two Lords find their bearings and help each other up.
“Will you listen to Shinar Jasper's advice now?” Aether asks his brother while panting.
“Shut up,” Father snaps as Aether smacks Chronos on the back of the head.
“You and I both know good and well who that was we just fought and practically lost to,” Aether says folding his arms; Chronos looks down.
“Yeah... You're right... I'll go speak with him,” Father shakes his head.
Chronos looks to a nearby window and sees me watching the two recover from their battle. He mouths something to me, at least, I think he did, what was he saying to me? I asked myself. Minerva and Monspeed finally wake up and join me at the window. I try to preoccupy their minds and suggest the three of us to play with each other.
Three Years Later
It’s been three years since that weird and mysterious woman came to our manor. In this time, my siblings and I managed to talk our parents into enrolling us into school.
The Esteemed Caliburn Institute for Young and Gifted Mages, it houses some of the most prestige professors and state of the art equipment to ensure each student can mature into the best magic user they can be.
My parents sit in my father’s study, discussing what to do next before we must leave. We’re all eager to attend school, I’ve never been this excited to start school, probably because I’m learning magic instead of math and science.
“Surely taking the children to their placement exam shouldn't be too difficult of a task. Why insist on keeping me home,” mother pleads.
“It's a week-long trip, and it's more so that I don't want anything bad to happen to you or the children,” father states, putting his foot down. Mother scoffs and folds her arms, “Need I remind you that I too am a powerful sorceress and more than capable of handling danger and protecting our children on my own,” she says with slight attitude.
Father chuckles and gently grabs mother by the waist, “I know I can be a bit overprotective, but it is for good reason, if the love of my life were to die before me, then not even the Dragoness could stop me...”
He kisses her on the cheek, and she blushes, causing the star-like freckles throughout her skin to explode like supernovas.
“Well, I still want to take them!”
Father sighs and rolls his eyes, ultimately succumbing to Mother's request.
“Only if you take Jade or Marigold with you, just for good measure,” father agrees shrugging his shoulders. I can’t believe I let her talk me into this, Chronos thinks to himself.
She kisses him on the cheek and springs up with a beaming, yet mischievous smile.
“You're three steps behind my love, I've already arranged for Rubella to attend the trip alongside me,” Mother exclaims.
Taken aback, Father stands and begins to pace the room.
“You just have everything figured out now don't you,” he asks.
She gives him a flirtatious and devious grin before kissing him on the cheek.
The two immediately stop their conversation as soon as me and Minerva walk into the room covering our eyes at the sight of our parents' affection.
“Gross! Get a room you two,” Minerva yells out. “There are children present!”
The adults in the room erupt in laughter as we continue to shield our eyes.
Father approaches us and picks up Minerva, placing her on his lap. “You kids are getting too big to carry,” he proclaims.
“No, I'm not! I'm still your ‘Little Girl’” my sister declares as she pouts and folds her arms.
“Come MyrMyr, I want to tell you something,” Mother states, motioning me over to her.
I take a seat next to her and she begins to wrap her fingers through my short curly hair. I take the opportunity to fully examine my mother and I realized something; I look more like her than I initially thought.
Although her skin looked like a starry night sky, she had features that were extremely hard to miss, for example, her eyes had the warmth of a thousand suns. However, to contrast her intimidating beauty, she also had a quaint and dainty demeanor.
I’m reminded of my eyes anytime I’m using his ability and makes out the similarities.
“Mother! I'm so excited to attend school! I heard that you and Father both attended this school, was it an adventure?”
“Why of course, dear,” Mother shouts with excitement. “This school is where the two of us first met, alongside the rest of our party, ‘Golden Hourglass,’"
Mother looks up at Father, who is admiring the way she elaborately describes their adventures. She mentions how the initial team consisted of twelves party members, each a skilled mage. One major take away was the fact that while they were in this party, they were also in the same class, how convenient.
“What were your classes like,” Minerva asks, eyes all doe-like. Monspeed and Meliodas walk into the room and listen in on the conversation. Father lifts Minerva off his lap so she can join the rest of us.
“Well, the first thing they do is: make you take a test to determine the rank you will be placed in,” the old man leans in and whispers. Seeing as though we’re just children, the man instantly had us hooked.
“And this rank will usually determine your Mage Job Class,” Mother exclaims. “This is the path each of you will have to choose on your own, so no pressure!”
These were obviously the correct words to say in the moment, because without thought nor hesitation, me and all my siblings began to grow more and anxious and exited to set out on a brand-new chapter in our lives. The idea of adventuring always seemed like a far-out pipe dream. In my old life, I felt like I couldn’t amount to much of anything, but I have a second chance, and I plan to make the most out of this new experience.
“Mama, what's your rank and class,” Monspeed asks while pouncing on Mother’s lap. “Yeah,” Meliodas yells out following his older brother’s lead. Mother narrowly catches my two younger brothers and smiles as a single tear pool in the corner of her eye. I can’t tell she’s tearing up due to being overjoyed or if she’s in pain from the ‘Dummy Duo’.
Mother grabs each child and holds them under her arms, “Well I'm a— “
“A Double S-Ranked Wind Sorceress,” father states with his eyes large and glistening in the light as he watches his wife play with their children; Uncle Aether walks into the room and chuckles.
“Dammit Dear, stealing my thunder now,” Mother cries out.
Father snaps his head in Uncle Aether’s direction, in exchange, he gives Father a shit eating grin, “You know how he is; he has to steal someone's limelight!”
Father shrugs his shoulders and sits next to his brother.
Moments Later
Some time passes, and the adults continue to tell us about their time in both at the Caliburn Institute and Avalon Academy.
“So, I have to take an exam in order to know what my ability is?”
Mother begins to blush, and her star-like freckles begin to burst as though a multitude supernovas were a part of some weird chain reaction. “That's kinda right, it's more like measuring your potential,” she states as she rushes in and grabs my hands. “It's also where younglings just so happen to awaken their Signatures!”
Minerva raises her hand, “What's a "Sing-Nature?”
The adults all start to chuckle; Father picks Minerva up once more and places her back on his lap, “Your name holds a lot of power, Little One, and when paired with mana, it becomes a Signature...” Father takes two of his fingers and scribes his name in the air, demonstrating how to cast a spell. From his fingers, a trail of burnt yellow light forms the letters C-H-R-O-N-O-S.
After the spell is scribed, the letters begin to swell. “Sand Signature: Sand-fall!” The letters begin to spill sand on the floor.
My siblings are all captivated by Father’s spell.
“That's nothing,” Uncle Aether interjects. He follows his older brother’s lead and scribes his name in the air. The letters begin to glow a hypnotizing purple color; as this happens, a small gust of wind begins to suck in toward the letters, “Dark Signature: Gale Winds!” The wind begins to blow harder, and the children cover their ears to drown out the noise.
“This is so cool,” Meliodas yells out.
Uncle Aether dispels the ability, and he boasts a prideful smile after outperforming his brother.
If I hadn’t awakened Gramps’ Stasis ability, I’d probably think the same thing. I’m curious how Father and Uncle Aether became Asura Lords.
“Enough you two,” Mother roars at the two brothers. “This is supposed to be about the kids, not a power-scaling match!”
The two mages put their heads down and clap their hands together. “We beg you for your forgiveness!”
Mother stands to her feet and puts both hands on her hips, “And with that being said, I feel it's only just that I escort the children to Caliburn. It's clear that neither can take this matter seriously!”
Chronos scoffs, “This again, Twi?”
She stares at him with a strong and determined smile. Geez, Mom has some serious resolve, she’s not budging on this one Old Man.
Father eventually gives into Mother’s demands, that’s it brother, accept defeat, this was a losing battle from the very beginning, Uncle Aether thought.
“You said you arranged Rubella to accompany you, right,” Father asks as he pinches the bridge of his nose.
“But of course,” Mother states smirking and sticking her nose in the air; Father and Uncle Aether exchange a look.
“Yeah, I'm having Jade take you instead,” Father declares as Uncle Aether erupts in laughter.
“Well, jokes on you, she was a part of my contingency plan anyway,” Mother huffs as she folders her arms. “Now, kids, pack your things! We're leaving, now!”
Mother storms out of the room; as she exits, she does her absolute best to hold in her laughter and excitement. She continues to the end of the hall and meets with Jade and Rubella.
“Well, M’Lady? What did he say?” Rubella asks, Mother smirks and turns her nose to the air.
“He couldn't resist,” she shrugs her shoulders before snapping her attention to Jade. “And Jade, you're tagging along too...”
Rubella breathes a sigh of relief while Jade hands Rubella a sack of coins behind their backs.
“Oh... Yay,” Jade chuckles nervously.
Mother grabs Jade by the arm and the two head upstairs to pack for their long trip.
