Omg, you wouldn’t believe who just texted me.
At this point of the Emilia lore, she has claimed to have broken off her engagement and stopped seeing her boyfriend. Now she is supposedly in a strictly monogamous relationship with Joseph. I was not in support of that, because I genuinely believed she deserved better. She had painted him to be a verbally abusive, little dick man child and I thought she deserved better after the life she had lived. I wanted to be someone she could lean on. I wanted her to depend on me emotionally, cause I really believed she needed the love.
Three missed calls.
“Hey Moody, Can you call me please, I’m sorry about everything,” I read the messages amused because what the fuck was he sorry for? What did Joseph do to me that he should be sorry? Guaranteed he hid the relationship from me, and dated Emilia behind my back but we weren’t close enough to discuss our relationships. So what had he been saying behind my back to the rat?
When I saw the messages I was shocked. The way she had painted Joseph to me, I didn’t imagine him as the kind of person that made apologies for simple things. Then it clicked, there had to be more to their relationship. If she was telling me all the cruel things “he did” then what was she saying about me? I was not kind when discussing Joseph with her. I most definitely said some vile things about my former schoolmate, partially because I was disgusted at the idea of being together but also maybe I felt that way about him. I really genuinely believed he was a loser. Also, the way I was so quick to believe he was abusive despite not knowing him to be that way. Clearly, I had some undiagnosed resentment towards the guy. I was too brash. I take accountability for my faults in this. Which was why I felt the need to call him back.
“Hello,” I said softly once I heard the click.
“Hey Moody, thanks for calling me back,” I heard him sigh with relief. He sounded drained, like emotionally. Like his world was crumbling before his eyes.
“Yeah, what’s up,” I asked with every intention to let him bear his soul to me. I knew he had a lot to get off his chest, and he just needed to say it to someone who could understand.
“Have you heard from Emilia, I haven’t heard from her in two weeks. I tried calling her, the line rang but she didn't pick up. So I started checking to see if she was active on social media. I found her Facebook and it says she’s engaged,” he stopped to catch his breath.
I took in everything he said, it made no sense to me how they had been dating for several months and he didn’t do a check of all her social media pages. It highlighted the clear differences between how men and women date.
We date cautiously, while they get into relationships fully believing women owe them honesty and loyalty.
Emilia wanted to show off her new man, so she invited him to lunch with her friends. At lunch, Emilia introduced her new boyfriend to her friend, Nathan. They all chatted and got to know each other and after lunch went their separate ways. At least this was the experience Joseph recalled. Unbeknownst to Joseph, Emilia went home with Nathan.
How did Joseph find out? You may ask, well you see Nathan, was the owner of the facebook page. According to the timestamps on the pictures, Emilia had been engaged to Nathan for almost two years at this point. At the time Emilia had introduced Nathan to Joseph as her best friend, they were engaged.
I knew who Nathan was, I mean he drove me home on the day I witnessed that awkward conversation between her and her alleged "fiance". At the time, she had introduced him to me as her second boyfriend. And when she told me she was monogamous now, she assured me Nathan was cut off.
He broke into sobs on the phone, I couldn’t console him. I didn’t have it in me. There were no words to describe what I was feeling at the time, but I knew it wasn’t pity.
“You know Moody I’ve been going through a lot, I just lost my mother,” he said
“Wait! Hold up, first of all sorry for your loss. But did she tell you she lost her dad too? Cause that’s what she told everyone at work” I rudely interrupted him.
“Um… no she never said that to me,” he was stunned, “Did she really?”
“Babe if you didn’t know, then I’m pretty sure she lied to get bereavement,” I sighed.
I remember the day she came into the office and pulled me to the side. Her eyes were bloodshot and she looked extremely sad. She had already told me he was in the hospital and was getting closer to the end, but she didn’t care because he was abusive.
I tried to console her by reminding her that it was better that he wasn’t here anymore to ease her burden. We had a heart to heart and I convinced her to look at the bright side.
It dawned on me, she stole his mother's death story and used it hers and for what? Sympathy? A week of?
A quick google search confirmed her father had not passed away. There was no obituary either.
That was when I knew there wasn't a word out of her mouth that had truth in it.
