Isabella suggested a trip to the river, a popular spot for locals to swim and picnic. Bernie, eager to spend more time with her, agreed immediately. They packed a basket with pandesal and mangoes and hiked to a secluded spot where the water was crystal clear. Isabella stripped down to a bikini, and Bernie nearly forgot how to breathe. Her Latina beauty was on full display, and he couldn’t take his eyes off her as she dove into the water, laughing and splashing him. “Come on, city boy!” she called. “Don’t tell me you’re scared of a little water!”
Bernie jumped in, and they spent the afternoon swimming and playing like kids. At one point, Isabella swam up behind him and wrapped her arms around his shoulders, her breath warm against his ear. “You’re not so bad, you know,” she whispered. Bernie turned to face her, their lips inches apart. He wanted to kiss her so badly, but before he could make a move, she splashed him in the face and swam away, laughing. “You’ll have to catch me first!” she teased.
They dried off on the riverbank, lying side by side on a blanket. Isabella pointed out shapes in the clouds, and Bernie made up ridiculous stories to go with them, making her laugh until her sides hurt. As the sun began to set, she rested her head on his shoulder. “I like you, Bernie,” she said softly. “You make me feel… free.” Bernie’s heart soared. He was so close to winning her over—he could feel it.
The townsfolk, who’d been watching from a distance, exchanged knowing looks. “He’s falling hard,” one of them said. “This is gonna be hilarious.”
