I burst out of the house, the fire catching my clothes, suffocating my lungs. I collapse on the ground staring at the burning house in front of me, firefighters run past me trying to put out the fire. Smoke curls up into the air covering the moon from view. I see the firefighters walk out of the blaze with two lip bodies on their shoulders, the bodies are unrecognizable, charred to a crisp. But there were only two other people in the house tonight.
“M-mum d-dad?” my voice is shaky as I see them on a stretcher a white cloth over their faces, before anyone can stop me, I run over fighting to see my parents faces one last time I scratch at the firefighters’ arms as they try to restrain me then I feel a large hand on my shoulders.
“I’m sorry kid, their gone” a gruff voice says I look around to see a bulky man with jet black hair, a black suit, dark brown eyes and pasty skin. I stare at him tears running down my face, dripping into my mouth.
Five hours later I’m in the man’s car, my burns have been treated and my sweat coated, burnt shirt sticks to my chest.
“sir, what is your name you never told me?” I say my voice barley a whisper, the man smiles
“My name is Hector young boy” he says his voice gruff but soothing “whats your name?”
“My name is jack sir” he nods and smiles. He tells me about how hes adopting me and I’m going to live with him in his house. I nod figiting with my fingers in my lap, kicking my feet into the air. I’m nervous, I’ve heard about the infamous horrible Hector and how he makes people disappear. Suddenly a thought pops into my head, ‘what was he doing at my house tonight?’ I look at Hector, he doesn’t look like someone who would burn down someone’s house, but dad always told me looks can be deceiving. I shake these thoughts out of my head ‘hector is helping me. I should be grateful.’ I turn and look out the window, the smoke still wafting up from the charred remains of my house.
