Chapter 3.
Don't wait up for us.
Lucia, my best friend, had come to spend the day with me and it had been so interesting that we fell asleep 10 minutes after putting on a movie…
We woke up to the sound of a ringing…it was my parents warning me not to wait up for them, because they were going to be at an exhibition in Kiarra for a few days…
They had definitely gone to another country and they hadn't even told me, here in our small family the one who seemed overprotective was me and not them; sometimes I wondered if the old woman trapped in a young woman's body was me and the adults trapped in teenagers were them.
Lucia was lying next to me in bed, she had heard the call and was yawning when I hung up and she asked me if we could order a pizza for dinner… and that was a good plan: pizza and chocolate with soda…
It was a young adult sleepover… after the pizza arrived, none of us wanted to go out to open the door, because our faces were covered in green masks and the delivery man couldn't hold back his laughter when we gave him the money and closed the door, only to hear him say again that magic be with you tonight…
¿What the hell was going on with that phrase? It seemed like it was heard everywhere; ¿was there some kind of fetish for mentioning it? ¿Or was it a rule that she wasn't aware of?
Lucia told me that it had been strange, but not as strange as the pizza box that practically had a portrait of a mirror as its logo; When I saw him I ran to the kitchen and took out the cereal box, and when I showed it to him I said:
I can't believe that companies are using the same commercial strategy. ¿Do they want to inspire people with a medieval fantasy or is there some romantic cliché that I haven't heard about?
Lucía said: it's probably one of the two above, lately companies do all kinds of crazy things to sell, but guess ¿what I've been dreaming about all these days? I dreamed about some scales like iridescent coming out of the beach…
Something so crazy that I can't explain it if I smoked something before going to sleep that doesn't stop tormenting me now…so I answered: and I dreamed about the man with the red eyes again, I swear that if he existed he would be my ideal type even though I've never seen anything, but his eyes.
We both laughed at how stupid we looked, Lucia was 27 years old, but she was my best friend since I was 13, and in the blink of an eye we were in the living room with hairbrushes to dry our hair and microphones singing at the top of our lungs the songs that were playing in the Top 100 of the best songs of the last decade…
Half of the singers who were broadcasting probably didn't even exist, but they had left extraordinary songs, which were really worth enjoying on a girls' night…
Suddenly, the light went out and the rain began to fall in torrents, the sky was darker and clearer than usual, we had gone out to the garden to wait for the light to return, when a lightning bolt struck near us and our eyes began to open and close repeatedly, I told Lucia: I'm going to fall, but she said the same thing, so taking her hand I didn't know more about what was happening around me… nothing could be heard, only I felt the wind hitting my already scared face with the rain…
