Chapter 5.
Dangerous Theories.
With the supernatural theory discarded and a new approach in mind, Iraide and Jared continued to investigate the crimes of the Renové Ripper. However, the possible connection with human fat extraction had opened a new line of thought in Iraide's mind.
One night, while they were going through documents in the office, Iraide decided to share an idea that had been germinating in her mind: Jared, I've been thinking about something, she said, staring at him.
Jared looked up at the papers scattered on the table. ¿What if all these Rippers over the years have actually been underground doctors?
Jared looked up, intrigued. ¿Underground doctors? ¿How would that fit into the pattern?
Think about this, Iraide continued. Human fat extraction is not something that just anyone can do with precision. It requires medical knowledge. And we know that human fat has been used in some medical and cosmetic procedures for rejuvenation. ¿What if these Rippers were doctors operating underground, extracting the fat to process it into some kind of medicine or rejuvenation treatment?
Jared thought for a moment. Makes sense. That would explain the surgical precision in the cutting and fat extraction. Besides, there has always been a demand for rejuvenation treatments, even in times past. These doctors could have found a way to monetize it.
Iraide nodded determinedly. Exactly. And Renové’s first Ripper might have found a perfect source of income. Beauty has always been an obsession, and in any era, people were willing to pay a high price to stay young.
So, ¿do you think this legacy of the Rippers has been perpetuated by underground doctors throughout the centuries? Jared asked.
It’s a possibility, Iraide replied. And it makes more sense than thinking about supernatural beings. We need to investigate any connections to doctors, underground clinics, or human fat trafficking networks.
They decided to focus on this new theory, looking for records of suspicious doctors, unlicensed clinics, and any hint of underground activity related to medicine or cosmetics. They knew that if their theory was correct, they would be dealing with a well-organized and dangerous network.
A week later, during one of their meetings, they found a name that seemed to stand out in several documents: Dr. Victor Lazenby. He was a doctor who had been expelled from the medical college several decades ago for unethical practices, but had disappeared without a trace.
This guy has to be involved, Jared said, pointing to the list of charges against Lazenby. If he is one of the Rippers, we could be close to dismantling his operation.
Iraide nodded. We need to find Lazenby and see if he is still active. And if not, look for anyone who worked with him. He may have passed his knowledge on to others.
The search for Lazenby became their priority. They knew they were in a race against time, and that more lives could be in danger. As they followed the trail of the infamous doctor, the truth about the Renové Rippers was beginning to unravel, but the seeds of intrigue were still sown.
¿What if Victor wasn't the Ripper? ¿What if the real Ripper was using these tactics to divert them from the main spotlight? It was a very possible thing and they couldn't deny it, but they had to at least try to find Victor's whereabouts to determine face to face if he had something to do with it or not.
