To say that Kohaku was nervous was an understatement. As the girl prepared tea for the guest who was arriving, she couldn’t help but reflect on what had happened recently.
*(Did I really bite off more than I can chew this time?)*
Sometimes being intelligent was hard; more often than not, Hacker felt that the decisions and choices made by her "friends" were wrong.
Several times, the teenager had taken initiatives on her own; she could admit that at times she was too confident and arrogant.
But who could blame her? If you combined a strong sense of revenge, above-average intellectual abilities, and various adolescent problems, it was obvious that things wouldn't always go smoothly.
Kohaku knew this. Cloe and Kuro, who were more or less like her, and the people who had put her in charge of the bunker could have imagined that things would turn out like this, so they gave her a certain level of freedom.
This thought did nothing to calm the girl with green hair.
After all, the big boss was about to arrive; "she" was an enigma that Kohaku couldn't decode. The awareness that she would be punished by that person made her tremble because she couldn't imagine how it would happen.
"Your hands are shaking. Are you really scared of this person? Do you already know what she will do when she arrives? Honestly, I'm also worried about my safety."
"I’m not scared because I can imagine what she has in mind, but because I shouldn't be able to. I believe that everyone in front of an [Omega Rank] could feel this way."
"Wait!? Did you say [Omega]!? Is she sending a [Maga Omega] here!?"
"Y-yes.............."
"Shit! Now I'm scared too!"
Hajime's loss of composure was understandable; after all, even he, who until recently was a normal human, knew the evaluation system of the power of [mages] and [espers].
**[Zeta Rank]:** Common people, without special powers or abilities.
**[Delta Rank]:** The lowest level [mages] and [espers], so weak that a well-trained and armed common soldier could defeat them.
**[Gamma Rank]:** [Mages] and [espers] with the most common power level.
**[Beta Rank]:** Superior to [Gamma] by at least 4 or 5 times.
**[Alpha Rank]:** Superior to [Gamma] by at least ten times.
**[Omega Rank]:** The peak of the power of [mages] and [espers]; the course of a war could change if one of them entered the field.
**[Astral Rank]:** A myth. There are only stories about those who have reached this level; therefore, officially this [Rank] does not exist. But legends speak of a power equal to a god descending to Earth.
Now, returning to the boy with silver hair, his fear was quite understandable. When he had been beaten to a pulp by Goto, the teenager had truly realized the abyss of power that separated them.
The leader of the [Black Corps] struggled not to kill him; despite not taking him seriously. The memory of a "weak" and "simple" punch that broke his bones like twigs must have terrified the boy.
An [Alpha Rank], like Goto, was unreachable for someone like Hajime, even now that he was discovering the power of the [Grimoire] inside of him; let alone an [Omega], who was far superior.
*(I should be a very weak [Gamma Rank]! An [Omega] could kill me with just their murderous intent!)* *(Hajime)*
"We should talk about something else while we wait. There's no point in getting nervous now, when she isn't here yet." *(Kohaku)*
"You’re right! But an [Omega Rank], seriously!? I knew I was getting into something bigger than me when I accepted, but I certainly didn't imagine something like this would happen so soon!"
"I can understand you. Predictions and plans are perfect until you put them into practice… like my plan to take out the target… sorry again for that, I should have and could have done more."
"Well, let's leave it behind; in the end, we all made it out alive."
"By the way, I still haven't asked you about your powers. I know you’re a [mage], but your [magic] is really special with the green electric sparks and all that."
Hajime stiffened; he didn’t want to reveal to anyone about the [Grimoire], especially now with an [Omega Mage] on her way. The boy couldn’t tell if "she" could rip away the book that granted him his powers. But it was better not to take any chances.
"Hmmm.............. that’s complicated; I just recently got my powers, more or less since I met you guys, so I’m not sure how they work."
"Ah, I see. I imagine we should help you master your power."
Hacker understood that her new ally was hiding something, even if he had told the truth. But she couldn't complain, as she was doing the same; she would be a hypocrite if she did.
"As you’ve already seen, Kuro is an expert in [shadow magic]." *(Kohaku)*
"Yeah, that was pretty obvious."
"Now that I think about it, Hajime, you and he are a perfect match."
A vein began to throb on Hajime's forehead. Being paired with what he considered a punk with piercings was certainly not something he liked.
"What?! Me and that bastard are............!"
"A perfect team. Kuro has stealth on his side, but lacks the raw power to face someone head-on, unlike you."
Goto's stepson remained silent as he pondered the words of the teenager in front of him. When they had taken Alberich, the two boys had truly showcased lethal coordination; it was impossible to deny.
"Tsk! We might be suited for teamwork, but I’ll never get along with his rotten personality! Anyway, what powers does he have.........?" *(Hajime)*
"Cloe-chan? I can’t tell you; it’s something very delicate............. and “difficult” to explain. Nevertheless, as you've already seen, her great power is counterbalanced by her body's inability to endure it. So she doesn’t often go on missions."
"I understand........... and what about you?"
"I’m an [esper]!"
[Espers] were a category of "humans" that could be divided into different subclasses: there were the [artificial mages], created by special serums or some type of invasive surgery, and the [true espers], people born with special powers that didn't rely on [mana] for sustenance.
Kohaku belonged to the second class. The girl was born with the innate ability to manipulate computers up to a certain extent. Like all those like her, her power wasn't as convenient as normal [magic].
If Hacker overexerted her abilities, she quickly drained her mental stamina, making her a burden, as her brain was her only useful trait for battles.
"That’s why I learned to hack, so I could use my abilities as little as possible."
"That's understandable; anyway, I think the tea is ready. The [Maga Omega] should be here by now?"
"Indeed..........."
A shiver of terror ran down both teenagers' spines.
Footsteps were heard in the distance. Kohaku and Hajime started to sweat nervously, their hearts pumping blood wildly as their faces turned pale. Never in their lives had they experienced such a feeling.
It was like two little rabbits in front of a huge wolf. Goto's stepson somehow found the strength to look in the direction from where this murderous intent was emanating.
The footsteps were deliberately slow and rhythmic. As if the person approaching intended to behave like a serial killer stalking their victims.
The door to the bunker’s mess hall swung open suddenly. The murderous intent rose to an even greater level, as if it reached its peak, only to disappear as if it had never been there.
Hajime and Kohaku began to breathe again, even though they hadn't even realized they had stopped.
"I hope the tea is good."
While they were still in a state of complete terror, Hacker and the silver-haired teenager managed to look into the eyes of the petite figure that had arrived near them, without even being aware of it.
The person was a loli, with a petite build like Cloe's. Her long sky-blue hair was tied into two side ponytails with black ribbons. Her gothic dress, pale skin, and red eyes greatly emphasized the vampire-like appearance of the [Omega].
*(Is this the power of an [Omega]..............?)*
Around, it was said that [Maga Omega] could kill people with just their thirst for blood; Hajime could verify that this rumor was true. The boy was well aware of how close his heart was to bursting.
"Here’s the t-t-tea, Y-Yukihime-sama."
Kohaku didn’t seem to have fully recovered from the bloodlust; her hands trembled as she served the drink, not that Goto’s stepson was in a better state. Meanwhile, the loli named Yukihime appeared indifferent to the effect she had on them.
"It’s good. But it didn’t need to change my mood, girl."
The [Maga Omega] smiled slightly when she saw the two teenagers shudder under her gaze. Her long fangs were licked by her tongue as her red eyes fixed on Hajime.
*(W-what have I gotten myself into?! This monster will kill me!?)*
Magic has existed since the dawn of humanity, intertwined with the development and technological advancements throughout the ages. Over the centuries, different cultures around the world have established their own laws, regulations, and social behaviors regarding the supernatural.
In Asia, a network of artificial islands known as the "Golden Cages" was created to contain magicians and individuals with supernatural abilities deemed dangerous to society. It is on one of these islands that our story begins, following Hajime Kamijou, a 17-year-old boy who stumbles upon the power of the "Grimoire of the Fallen"—an artifact of unfathomable and immeasurable strength. This newfound power becomes a beacon for Hajime, guiding him on a treacherous journey steeped in revenge, personal growth, and the struggle for survival in a ruthless and unforgiving world.
As Hajime navigates the complexities of his abilities and the dark forces that pursue him, he must confront not only the external threats that await him but also the shadows lurking within his own heart. His quest will challenge his ideals, reshape his destiny, and reveal the true nature of magic in a world where power can both uplift and destroy.
