I put the mission paper in my bag.
Going towards the dungeon, I see that more people are already on the streets, there are also some people who are going to the dungeon just like me. Normally I don't go down many levels, the most I've ever been was level 10, that's because of the monster rankings.
The dungeon has 50 levels, and the deeper it goes, the stronger the monsters get.
In the first 5 levels, it is possible to find E-rank monsters.
From level 6 to 10, it is possible to find D-rank monsters.
From level 11 to 15, it is possible to find C-rank monsters.
From level 16 to 20, B-rank monsters are encountered.
From level 21 to 35, is where the A-rank monsters are.
From level 36 to 49, it is possible to find monsters of rank S. Well, here is where the strongest monsters are, theoretically.
At level 50, it is possible to find X-rank monsters.
It's rare that people have made it to level 50. All the adventurers who have ever reached level 50 have NEVER returned, making this level a mystery.
It is not known if level 50 is the final level of the Dungeon, this was just the farthest level an adventurer could reach.
It is also not known which monsters and items are at level 50, the only thing that is known is that a monster of about 50 meters lives there, and that there is a dense mist throughout the level. This is known due to a note sheet left by an adventurer who reached level 49 and died a short time later.
The poor guy died at the entrance of level 50, he was probably trying to return, but ended up dying. No one knows the causes of death to this day.
Walking, I see from afar the Dungeon Tower and consequently the great hall where the elevators are. Around the tower there are no buildings, they are a little far away, it is almost as if it were a square in which the tower was the biggest attraction.
The ground ceases to be of stone and becomes a floor of dry earth.
After a walk, I finally arrive at the entrance to the dungeon hall. The place is fully supported by stone pillars. To hold a structure of this size, several thick pillars are made, but even then, you can pass between them, after all, it is an entrance. The tower has a cone shape.
Entering the hall, it is an open space that is illuminated by sunlight, the floor is made of a gray and smooth stone. In the center of the place, is a large square structure that is interconnected with the ceiling, this structure is where the elevators work.
Each side of the structure is for something specific. I go up to the south elevator, which is for adventurers who don't have a House, has a small line of people. The north elevator is exclusive for adventurers with a contract with a House, the east elevator is for people who are going to climb the dungeon tower, and the west elevator is the elevator where adventurers exit the dungeon when they climb. The west elevator has two doors to optimize the flow of people.
The line goes on and I'm the next one down. To my left is a clerk, wearing the same outfit as the guild girl. He'll check if I can get in, he'll probably ask for the mission role.
*PIN*
The noise of the elevator rings, signifying that he has returned.
I approach the clerk, a young man with a cool topknot.
"Good morning, sir. What's your point going down the dungeon?" He asks.
"I'm here to do a mission."
"Can I see the role of your mission?" He asks.
I take the paper out of the bag and hand it over.
He spends a few seconds analyzing it and hands it to me.
"It's all right, you can come in." He presses the elevator button, and the doors open.
"Thank you, cool topknot by the way," I say smiling.
"Haha, I know."
I get in the elevator and it's made of marble. Waiting for him to authorize the entry of other adventurers, it takes a while, but in total four adventurers entered with me.
The doors close and we begin to descend. The lighting is yellow due to the light crystal that illuminates the elevator.
An unsettling silence lingers in the elevator. I should say something...
"It's hot today, isn't it?" Why did I say that? I don't even know, but I already regret it.
No one shows a single reaction, nor do they say anything. I must assume that they are focused and that they haven't heard me straight, right?
The elevator stops, and the doors begin to open.
The doors open, and a beautiful view is observed by all. A large open field with some trees full of fruits and leaves, small groves are also seen.
The walls that indicate the end of the level are seen from afar, they are made of pointed gray stones.
Looking at the ceiling, I see that a large crystal of yellow light is in the center of the level, illuminating the entire area, looking like the sun. Blue light crystals are grouped in a large amount throughout the level, simulating the sky.
I step out of the elevator and small dirt roads guide me. There are three paths: one through the middle, one on the left that leads into the forest, and one on the right that leads to an open field with monsters.
The middle path leads up to level 2, and that's the one I'm going to follow.
As I walk down the long road, I see some people fighting slimes, the most basic and weak monster, the crystal that the slime gives is of low value. When a monster is killed, it gives a crystal of a different coloration that indicates rarity.
These crystals are for making weapons or objects in general, but most people take these crystals to exchange for money in the Adventurers' Guild. And the Guild sells to blacksmiths, artisans, or some other kind of work that involves the crystals.
Color of crystals:
X - Unknown
S - Red
A - Green
B - Blue
C - Yellow
D - Grey
E - Brown
After walking for a few minutes, I arrive in another two long lines. The elevator where there are more people in line is the elevator that leads to level 5, the other elevator that the line is smaller, leads to level 2.
There are two more elevators on the right where returning adventurers leave.
I approach the longest line. It would be a waste of time to go through all the levels until you reach level 5.
From level 1 to level 5 almost everything is similar: large plains with monsters of rank E. The biggest difference is the trees, because some bear different fruits and have different leaves.
Also some other different slimes appear, slime type of fire and water.
The line walks and again I'm next. I show my mission paper and get in the elevator.
This time the elevator is already full, so I don't have to wait.
The disturbing silence again happens, but I've come to understand that people don't like conversation very much.
Worst of all, the descent to level 5 takes longer than the first elevator I took...
Two long minutes and thirty-four seconds pass and the doors finally begin to open to level 5.
When opened, I see a landscape similar to level 1, but with a difference: a small town in the distance, to the east.
I get out of the elevator and again I have three paths to follow, the entrance to level 6 is to the east, in the same direction as the city, so I go there.
Walking towards the city, I see that the leaves of the tree have a different coloration, leaves of the shade of light yellow.
Slimes of different types I can also see.
Arriving in the city, I soon go towards the exit, this is because everything here is more expensive than outside the dungeon. This city looks a lot like the city outside the dungeon.
The city is very busy, mainly with adventurers and vendors. These cities within the dungeon are called Safe Areas, this is because they are cities that were created for the purpose of being a resting place, out of any danger or inconvenience with monsters.
Looking further around me, I see crowded restaurants, equipment, and supply stores that are full of people and hotels that are full, little do these people know that the price here is much higher, they are probably tourists or beginner adventurers.
In total, there are two Safe Areas throughout the dungeon, one at level 5, and one at level 20.
I can already see the end of this level from afar, a large cave in the wall of the dungeon, a cave that leads down. Some groups of people are gathered there, perhaps to organize themselves to come down.
I leave the city and face the cave.
Without hesitation, I enter and begin to descend to level 6.
The environment has poor lighting, only a few small crystals of yellow light can illuminate the place. There are also large stone thorns sticking out of the ceiling and floor, making the level much more dangerous to get around.
The cave just goes down, the positive point is that some adventurers are also going to level seven, so just follow them so you don't get lost.
Level Six features slightly more difficult monsters such as Giant Rats, Snakes, and Vampire Bats. They are not monsters that an amateur could handle... In fact an amateur can handle yes, because I am one.
I know very well the way up to level 10, so I don't think I'll have any difficulty.
I go down until I reach level 9, a place very similar to the other levels, the difference is that this level has small lakes. Some new monsters also appeared, such as piranhas and other dangerous fish. The water of the lake glows a blue the color of the sky, illuminating the cave in which the level lies
Every level of the dungeon has a sign saying what level I'm at. I go down level 9 until I find the entrance to level 10.
Finally, I'm going to do my mission, now just start looking for the Giant Bats!
