Star locked the door to the Cafe. Then he and Luna, strolled down the beach heading home!
Are you charging up tonight? - Luna asked Star casually.
Star glanced up at the clear sky! - Yep I think so! You?
No I will take a nice long bath and hit the bed!
MMm! OK.! - Star looked over at his sister! She was quite this afternoon! - Are you thinking about her?
You know me too well!
Just take things slow! She seems pretty fragile! - Star was concerned.
Says the guy who goes all in, like a streak of Lightning! - Luna smurked!
And ends up getting burnt! - Star sighed.
Aren't we a great pair? - Luna said with sarcasm.
New Town, New Life, Maybe a new Love too? - Star tried to be optimistic!
Cross fingers for me! And I will do the same for you! - Luna held up her crossed fingers!
Star laughed and did the same! - I will wish upon a Shooting Star, for you!
Anything is worth a shot! - She patted, Star on the back. - Thanks Bro!
All good! - He wrapped an arm around her shoulders - What do you want for Dinner?
Aren't you sick of cooking, after today! - She laughed.
I am sure we have something in the freezer! - He winked.
Perfect!
While Luna enjoyed her bath. Star put on his Board shorts and headed for the beach.
Wading into the surf, he thought about last night, and the figure he had seen on the beach!
He was sure it had been something to do with the flute! The flute itself, had always been a Mystery. Star had a feeling that maybe, that Mystery was finally going to be solved!
It was 5 years ago when it had first turned up. Star had been 20 then, charging in the sea when, it had hit him in the head. A beautiful silver instrument! It looked very Old, an ornate long pipe with a hole at one end for blowing. And holes running down the length. It was decorated with carvings of Stars and Planets.
It wasn't Star's! He didn't own it! It lived in the sea, and came to him, whenever it felt like it! It was a flute with a mind of it's own.
It didn't matter where Star was, he could be in a different city each day, and it would still find him.
The strange thing was, that the flute didn't play! Star had tried it out a million times, over the years, but he had never heard a sound!
At first he had been annoyed, and thrown it away, far into the ocean. But it had always returned, whacking Star in the Head, or some other part of his body, equally as painful! It had been aggravating, a pest! Like a hungry dog that followed you around, and when you tried to be nice and feed it. It would bite!
As the years went by, he discovered a way, of befriending it! All he had to do was place it to his mouth and blow! It had stopped hurting him, it would just float around until he picked it up! It had eventually become a habit, a normal part of his re-charge evenings.
Even though he couldn't hear it, he still always placed it against his lips and played. Pressing his fingers over the holes, in intricate patterns. He could imagine that it made sounds, but he had never been sure!
That was until last night!
Would there be a repeat tonight? He would be patient, and wait and see!
Star lay floating under the Stars, until he felt the familiar splash, next to his ear. It was the flute! Standing he picked it up!
Placing it against his lips, he started to play, his silent melody! And waited.
He scanned the shore! There were lights on at his, house. He could see it clearly in the distance. Luna had left lights on for him!
The house to the right, of his, was in darkness. He was pretty sure they must have gone away, or only used the house occasionally. Because he had never seen anyone there.
The house to the left of his, was around 50 meters away. It was in Darkness too! But as he played, he saw movement from the house!
A spot of torch light, traveled along the sand toward him.
It had to be the same person as last night. Was the flute, calling to him?
It was dark enough, even with torchlight to go unseen! He had to test it!
Star stopped playing!
The man stopped still!
Star swam 20 meter's up the beach, placed the flute to his lips again and played.
The man turned, and started walking in his direction once more!
It couldn't be a coincidence! Could it?
Star stopped playing again!
The man stood still again!
Was it possible that, his Neighbor could hear the flute? And if so, Why?
In Star's world, everything had a reason! Even the seemingly impossible, was usually possible!
But why here, and why now? What could be the reason?
He knew he needed to find out! He must put his trust in fate and the Stars! Be confident that things would work out!
First thing was to find out who this person was!
Star waded into the shallows, and took a deep breath, to calm his racing Heart! Raising the flute, he played. Facing the bobbing torchlight, as it started towards him once more!
He no longer thought it was a Dream!
Dusty was determined tonight! He wouldn't run away! This was too huge! Too big an opportunity to pass up! No matter how, frightened he was, he had to know! Was he really hearing? Hearing music?
He had been 8 the last time he had heard anything! The only member of his family to survive a tragic car accident. He had lived 13 years in silence! Until these last two nights!
Heart thumping, and breathing fast, he walked down towards the water. The sea was calm tonight, and the sky was clear. The moon was waining, so the night was darker than last night.
Would he see the silver figure in the sea again? Who was it? Was he playing a flute again?
Dusty saw him then! He stopped and lowered the torch, letting his eyes adjust to the dim light!
A young man stood, only a few meters away, watching him. The flute now lowered to rest in his hand.
This man did indeed shine silver! From the top of wet long silver hair, down to his firm, muscular torso.
Dusty was taken aback by his beauty! But it was the eyes, that sparkled like stars, that stunned him the most, as the stranger stared back at him!
Star stood and stared! He knew this youngster! Had only just seen him today at the Cafe!
The customer that he had had to read, to get his order for Luna!
All of that worry had been over this harmless, and actually, pretty cute guy?
Star shook his head and smiled! Relief flooding him! He walked forward out of the water and onto the sand! The flute wiggled in his hand, he tossed it over his shoulder, into the waves.
Why was this silver man smiling at him? Dusty felt curious, but no longer frightened! This man might be strange, but he looked harmless!
Star almost laughed, at this guys thoughts. Am I a strange silver man?
Dusty froze, what was that?
Star watched as the guys face changed! He seemed to be frozen, but at the same time freaking out! Was he OK?
Did you ask, if I am OK? Dusty thought. Are you speaking to me?
Now Stars eyebrows rose in surprise! He hadn't uttered a word! Well not with his mouth, but he had with his mind.
Can you read my mind? -Star asked.
I don't think so, but I can hear you! I think! - Dusty was confused and worried. Was this guy some sort of Alien?
Don't worry, I am not an Alien! - Star couldn't help but smile, at this guys confusion!
But then why was this guy not speaking normally to him?
I cant speak!
What?
I cant speak! Well not with my mouth, but it seems I can with my mind! - Dusty frowned.
Why?
I cant speak, because I am deaf!
Deaf? - Star asked, interested - Really?
Yes!
How do you understand me?
I really don't know! - Dusty was baffled.
And you can hear the flute? - Star had to ask.
Yes, It is Music, isn't it? I seem to remember....
That's what I am confused about! - Star said thoughtfully.
What?
Why a deaf person, can hear the flute, But I cant!
Really?
MMm! - Star nodded.
Then, how do you play?
Dreadfully probably! - Star smiled.
I cant really judge! But I loved it! - Dusty smiled.
I am happy, I made you smile! - Star grinned.
Can you hear everything, I think?
Usually!
So if I think.... I like your eyes! Can your hear it?
What was that? - Star played dumb.
I like your eyes!
Huh, what did you say?
I like your eyes! - Dusty's gazed into those amazing eyes!
I didn't catch that!
You are teasing me! - Dusty smiled.
Star leaned forward until their noses almost touched. - I like your eyes too!
Stars' eyes seemed to be giving off sparks now,
Dusty shut his eyes to the glare, and lost his balance. He fell forward, his lips pressed firmly against Stars.'
Like being trapped in a magnetic pull, they were drawn together.
They clutched at each other, and kissed.
Star's mind exploded! What was this feeling? Was it a magic spell? Every touch of this guys lips against his, felt like a jolt to the brain!
Intoxication! That was the only word that he could come up with, as his world tumbled apart!
Suddenly he needed more! More than just a kiss!
Where was this heading? He was afraid!
Gathering his courage he pushed away from the kiss, stepping back into the water.
Letting the coldness of the sea, seep into his skin, and clear the fog in his mind!
Dusty felt unbalanced, being suddenly pushed away, he fell!
He crumpled, onto the sand!
He looked up, but the silver man had turned away from him. Was he angry?
The kiss had been wonderful! Hadn't it?
Unexpected! But confusingly wonderful!
Dusty slowly got to his feet. - Um sorry!
Star turned then, and asked softly - What is your name?
Dusty!
Can I see you again, Dusty?
Yes! - Dusty was pleased, then - What is your name?
Star!
Dusty wasn't really surprised, he looked up at the sky - Appropriate! - He said smiling.
When he looked back down, Star was gone. Just a splashing of water remained.
