Dusty followed the high tide line, on his way back along the beach. Taking his time. His eyes scanned the sand. What treasures had the sea left for him?
He pulled 2 string bags from his pocket. One for his Treasures and the other for Rubbish.
Some things that he had collected in the past, hadn't fit into these two categories. Things like Hats, Shoes, Sunglasses, clothing and towels. They had all been washed and donated to Second hand stores.
Nothing gave him more pleasure, than this beach and he wanted it to stay beautiful!
Things that he considered treasures, varied greatly. Mostly they were large shells, pieces of Driftwood, Dried Starfish, Broken Coral or Sea sponge. But occasionally, he would pick up Rope, Old Sinker's, Cork floats, or glass bottles with a rusted lid. Even a few child-size flip-flips in bright colours may take his interest.
Today he had found, a particularly nice piece of gnarled Drift wood, two large scalloped shells and a cork float, its end speckled with the remains of bright florescent orange paint.
He dumped the rubbish bag on his Veranda to bin later, taking his treasures through to his room.
His Treasure net, hung across the wall opposite his bed. A thick rope fishing net he had found on the beach 2 years previous.
Picking up todays finds, he hung them on the net, tying them on with small pieces of twine, cut from the ball on his dresser.
Then he stood back to admire, his creation. He was by no means artistic, but he did enjoy this small bit of Creative Chaos! It made him smile!
His Treasure net was getting pretty full. Soon it would be time to empty it and start again.
He went to the kitchen, collected his Sandwich from the Bench, a bottle of orange juice from the fridge and returned to his room. He opened the glass doors wide, and took his lunch and Novel out to the Veranda with him.
The afternoon, was warm. The Sea breeze refreshing. His large outdoor, beach lounge comfortable. He sighed, and prepared to settle happily here for the next few hours.
Millie had raced home. She felt hot and flustered. And also a bit embarrassed! Letting herself in the front door, she headed straight to her room, perching on the end of her bed.
Why did she bolt so fast? Luna must have thought her rude. Leaving without a good bye, or a thank you!
She had no reason to dislike Luna. Luna hadn't hurt her, in fact it had been the opposite. Luna had been kind and gentle with her. No one had treated her like that in the longest time. Maybe that was why it had effected her so much.
She could still feel Luna's gentle touch, against her cheeks, her lips.
Rising from the bed, she walked through to her en suite. She peered into the mirror!
The girl that stared back at her, made her smile.
Her hair had fallen loose in the breeze, soft tendrils curled softly around her face. Her cheeks were flushed and rosey, her lips still held a smooth coating of shiny Peach Gloss.
She looked pretty! Tears formed at her eyes!
Why had she never noticed? Had she never really looked at herself before? Did she really look this way?
She turned away from her reflection, as a tear rolled down her cheek! She cupped her cheeks, ran her tongue over her bottom lip. The taste of peaches, filled her mouth. She smiled.
Swiping away the tear, she drew in a deep breath, and continued her daily chores.
Placing a coffee and bagged Sandwich wrap on the counter, she thanked the customer. The lunch time rush had ended. The Cafe was empty!
Luna needed a break! She headed outside to where a few mugs and Dishes were scattered, still to be cleared. She sat, leaning back against one of her new cushions, and gazed out to the sparkling sea.
She closed her eyes and listened to the waves! The sound usually soothed her, but today all she could think about was, one girl! Millie!
It had been 10mins of her morning! A brief encounter! Why was the memory, replaying over and over in her mind?
She had seen that sad face, and hadn't been able to resist. The tiniest bit of magic, had flown from her fingers. Transforming that pale face, into a thing of beauty! A face that she just couldn't seem to forget.
Did she see Millie as a project, like Star had suggested? Someone who she could, enjoy making over? Someone who's life she could improve?
Or was it something more? Did she see Millie, as a possible love interest?
What she did know, was that she needed to see Millie again. Get to know her, and see what fate had planned. Not just for Millie, but for herself too!
