Lucas checked his watch, it was eight o'clock. Starting to really get dark now. He felt tired and dizzy. He had declined breakfast and was feeling the effects of not eating for an entire day, and he had decided against dinner the previous night as well. He lost his appetite with stress. And really he was beyond stress now. He rubbed his wet hands together, closing his eyes. He listened, the rain had stopped but the fog was still thick, he could just see the both ends of the bridge. Which was good when the thing would show up. He felt like he was going crazy, why was it waiting for so long. What was it waiting for. More time passed and still nothing. He checking his watch again, it was 10:26 PM
Would the thing really not show up? Whyt? Did it somehow know their plan? I mean they really didn't know how smart it was. Lucas leaned back against the railing of the bridge closing his eyes for a second but found he could not keep them closed for long. He was completely terrified. He tried to assure himself that his friends were watching and would shout if the thing showed up, but still, he felt so alone. He tried to remind himself that really they were right there armed to protect him. And still, he shivered, he was alone. His mind screamed for him to get out of there, nothing anybody could do would be enough to harm the creature. He pushed the emotion back for the hundredth time. His mind was going in circles, fear, anger, fear. A lot of fear, and yet the anger was strong it hung on. He hated the monster it had taken so much from him. He was sure it had been the thing to kill Gaspers mom. It had started all of this. And now, he was going to end it. It would end it had to. And so he would wait. He would wait no matter how long it took. Lucas knew it would show up. A cold breeze was blowing in. It chilled the air and brushed aside the fog which closed back in quite quickly. It did not care about the wind. It seemed determined to swallow the bridge and any sorry soul who was trespassing there. Lucas took a shaky breath. Listening, no sound, only the shaking in the trees. And so they waited more. It was nearing three in the morning, and still Lucas was going strong, he would wait, he would wait and wait, and then finally he heard something. It came from deep in the tree line, the completely sick and twisted giggling. The drowned choking gurgling laughter. It chilled him deeper than the bone, pulling and scratching at his sole. Trienginto breathe evenly he walked out to the middle of the bridge, gritting his teeth so hard they asked in his skull. The others heard the laughter and already their wounds towards it. No one moved. The sick laughter reverberates across the bridge. Five long minutes passed but only the laughter broke the silence. Lucas stood dizzy, wide eyed and staring out the trees. And finally in the dull light the moon provided through the cloud layer, he saw it. Finally leaving the tree line. All it appears as in the dim lighting and the distance was a whitish gray mass. Slowly moving forward onto the bridge. It Seemed slower than normal as if it were tired. It came trudging forward Lucas felt his body begin to hyperventilate. He took a shaky step backwards, and then stopped. He needed to stay calm. He needed to give his friends a clear shot, he could run and cause it to rush forwards. And so he stayed frozen. His lip shook. His mind was screaming at him.
Run! Run you idiot! It's going to kill you!
But he stayed. He shook badly. And his breath came in short quick gasps but he stayed. The creature was close enough he could see it in more detail now. The demon monster. They white bone like legs, the great grinning face. And behind it, it was dragging something. Apon taking a few more steps forwards he could see it. It was dragging his body. Lucas felt a quam of nashua come over him. He was sure if he had eaten he would have vomited. The kind of hot saliva flooded his mouth and dropped from his mouth. The body was limp, the monster carried it by impaling the body's back, dried blood plastered to the shirt. The shirt was a dark blue stained black from the blood. And then the monster flicked its arm, flicking the body forward. It slumped forward rolling to his feet, Lucas stared at the face, his mouth open in a silent scream. He knew the man, it was the security guard. His face was dead, his eyes and mouth open in a scream. They eyes, the eyes were so gray and empty but staring ahead still so full of fear. Dried blood was dripping down from his open mouth. Lucas stumbled back. Tears coming to his eyes. And then the laughter. The laughter was so loud so close. Lucas fell to the ground screaming. Hands over his ears.
No No. Everyone he touched died. He heard the monster begin to laugh now. The screaming laugh. It seemed completely entertained at the point of finally breaking Lucas. He heard a gunshot, and then another and another. The monster screamed. And then Lucas felt a harsh pain in the side of his head. He fell over. Something had hit him. In an instant he was on his feet smelling blood. Adrenilon was taking over, leaving no room for fear. He stood trying to take in what he was seeing. His vision was blurry and he was seeing doubles. But from what he could tell, there was the monster. Screaming and it had deep gashes, bullet wounds in its body. It screamed and spun around looking for the source of the pain. Finally it stopped spinning looking straight to the lookout deck. And then it shrieked. The scream froze his blood, icing his soul. Its eyes were squited to slits seeing to faintly glow red in its hatred for the sources of its hatred. And then it began a uneven tangles scramble to the deck. It put one of its sharp bony arms onto the wood stairs preparing to climb up when Lucas screamed and ran at it. He hit it with the bat with every ounce of muscle in his body. THe thing screamed and spun to Lucas. He did not wait a second and hit it in its head. It jerked its head back its face bleeding a little. Under the lookout deck the others could not shoot it without moving position.
“Roxan! Stay here, me and Mark are going down!” Penny screamed running down the stairs.
Lucas saw them running down the steps, the creature staring at his eyes spun around looking straight at his eyes. It spun around to see what he was looking at. It screamed Mark yanked up his gun and was able to get a shot off before the thing smashed the stairs with its powerful arms bellowing in rage. Penny and Mark were thrown to the ground. Lucas screamed running at the thing again and hitting it. It turned again this time and didn't attack Lucas directly but went for the bat hitting it out of his hands. Lucas watched as time seemed to slow down, the bat flew through the air and disappeared over the bridge. And then it turned to Lucas. Grinning widely known. He stood frozen staring, why didn't it attack him? Why did it only watch him? Lucas felt his mind screaming and racing for some abortion. But there was nothing. He was so powerless. UNless. he looked to the side of the bridge. The terror in his body, the intensity, the fear. He was going to die. He looked at Mark and Penny, the fall had knocked them both out. He looked to the railing of the bride again. The drop was more than a hundred feet. He looked at Penny again. Her eyes were shut tight and even unconscious she was gritting her teeth in pain. The monster seemed to be waiting for Lucas to make the first move.
Lucas grit his teeth and get his jaw and screamed making one final attempt. Everything rested on this. It seemed strange. He slammed into the monster. Touching its skin makes him feel sick. There seemed to be parts on it that were soft feeling like fat, but then seemingly for no apparent reason, there were right next to it places that seemed to be hard as rock, truly it was a disgusting creature. Lucas shoved his hand into a bullet wound driving the thing backwards. It screamed and throwing its arm up it brought it down on Lucas shoulder. Blood splashed on his face but he did not stop and kept on pushing. The thing was huge and stabbing into his shoulder. Lucas grit his teeth digging down into the last bit of willpower he had left. Screaming again, the monster screamed again. Lucas gave one finally push. He heard someone scream, either it was Penny awake or Roxanne he didn't know all he knew was he had to keep his friends safe, so with the final push he shoved himself and the monster over the guardrail and off the bridge. There was a moment where he thought he had caught himself. But, no, he was simply way too exhausted to catch himself. He watched the bridge go over his head. The monster screamed in fury and hatred, stabbing at Lucas determined to be the thing to kill him and not the fall. It grabbed him pulling him in close. It screams about to rip Lucas through out of him, and then. Thud, nothing.
Penny lay on her back. Opening her eyes. Her head hurt so bad. She smelled blood. Her ears were ringing and everything sounded quiet. Someone was shouting something, screaming. She sat up, things seemed dull and clowded but slowly began to clear, as did her hearing. THings still seemed more pulled back but she could understand. Roxanne was screaming half jumping up and down and pointing. She looked insane.
“R-Roxan?” Penny asked wincing, talking hurt her head.
Roxanne spun seeing movement. She pointed sobbing and still screaming.
Penny felt so confused and tired. She forced herself to her feet looking around. Mark was sitting on the ground looking exhausted. He looked up to Penny then stood himself.
“W-What's going on?” He asked wincing, looking at Roxanne and then Penny.
“Roxan?” Penny asked again, this time hurting a little less than the previous time.
“Its, bridge. He!!” She screamed but was overcome with sobs again.
“Roxanne what is it!” Penny shouted wincing.
“Lucas went over the bridge! He fell, he fell off!” Roxanne screamed, pointing and screaming again.
Penny felt frozen. Her eyes went wide and tears began to spill. She began to shake. And then she began to run. She ran to the edge, it was steep but there was a path to the ravine below. The three scrambled down it in a hurry. Penny was the first to reach the bottom. Screaming out Lucas. there was no answer, it was even darker in the ravine then it had been on the bridge. Mark shouted as well. But no answer. Roxanne had her phone flashlight out searching for anything. And finally they found him. His body was twisted and contorted, blood pooled from his nose and mouth. Penny screamed falling to his body hugging him tightly. But then she felt something, he seemed almost tense. She dropped her head to his chest listening. And sure enough, there it was, a faint heartbeat. Faint but there.
“He's not dead!” Penny screamed fresh tears pouring from her eyes.
“What?” Roxanne asked horsley.
“He, his heart beat. We have to get him to a hospital Penny gasped.
The ride there was long and painful. Lucas lay on the back. He was pale and his skin had turned almost a grayish color. Halfway there his eyes fluttered open and his eyes rolled in his head looking around then shutting again. Penny gripped the wheel so tight her fingers were white. Her head still hurt and things were blurry but she needed to get Lucas help. Finally they pulled into the hospital Mark and Roxanne jumped out running into the building Penny sat with Lucas in the back.
“It's going to be ok, it's dead. And you're going to be ok. Remember you promised. Remember? See, we can go back to normal.” She said, holding his hand to her forehead.
And then he was pulled away from Penny. She looked around, eyes wide. Doctors and nurses were there getting Lucas out of the car and onto a gurney and into the hospital. Penny followed as far as she could but was stopped and stood standing in the painfully bright hallway. She wrapped her arms around herself and leaning against the wall sank to the floor. SHe felt so tired. People rushed by. She closed her eyes, they felt so heavy. And finally she let go.
THURSDAY
Lucas felt feverish. He was in the dark. Running he didn't know from what, and then his legs stopped and he fell to the ground in the darkness. He whirled around to look at what had tripped him. HIs eyes went wide and he screamed. His legs were rotting and bugs were crawling all over them. Lucas watched in horror as magots buried themselves deep into his rotting flesh. He screamed trying to crawl away, but one cant so easily escape their own legs. ANd then there was the hot breath on his back. He spun around again. Feeling frozen in front of him was the monster clean and singing. Contrasting drastically against the black backdrop. Lucas sat frozen unable to escape. He was stuck here with the thing forever.
