A yell resounded. A hoarse groan, all around the mansion, sending a shiver along their spines. Isaac shook in terror, his shoulders slumping. He had never been this scared in his entire life, but whatever it was, he didn't know what it was.
The young boy could still see the reflection of his sister and the ghosts in the mirror. They didn't seem so shocked about the situation, though, watching him blankly.
At least, he wasn't alone. At his left, Alphy couldn't stop having spasms, balancing his weight from one foot to the other. Isaac opened his mouth to speak, but didn't find the words.
- Did you hear that? Sir Alfred William Smith whimpered right in his ear
Anyone could've thought that question would be answered. Rhethorical, though. The boys sent the girls and boys on the other side of the mirror a questioning glare.
What troubled them the most was that the screams had stopped. They didn't feel safe at all, they did hear the same thing. Spontaneously, Isaac pinned the man to the wall, glaring at him as a warning.
- Don't say a word, he or she is going to hear us, he whispered, keeping a hand on his jaw.
Fortunately, the girls didn't have the stupidity to ask what he meant by that, staying silent. Kiara was about to question him, but Marilou gave her a look that said no.
Silence weighed on the group, and nobody dared saying a single word. We could hear some of them breathing. After a while, Marilou decided to ask a simple question, that surely everyone pondered about as well.
- Do you think it'll come back?
- Of course, stupid question, Retorted Amber, shaking her head
- In what dimension was he? Kiara added
Everyone froze at the question. Kiara was right. They didn't know where it was. If the girls heard the growl as well, it meant he wasn't this far.
Suddenly, the sound of a moan pulled them out of their trances. Now, they knew it was the Wendigo. The beast watched the children with mischief, walking across the wall. The girls nor the boys were safe. Rebecca screamed in terror, trying to hide behind Marilou, although she couldn't die.
The Wendigo was a massive beast with a slim figure, stunted, with its organs visible. The creature was the mix of a deer and a human, standing at about four meters. Its color was ash grey, and it hissed, stepping back and forth, running its long colorless tongue across its front teeth.
The Wendigo grunted, stepping closer as it inhaled. Now, Isaac could see his sister right in front of him, and not through the mirror. The teen fought the idea of rushing to her, crying with mercy and getting on his knees to beg him to stop terrorising him, but that wouldn't been useless.
At the same moment-probably the worst- Lilith barged in next to the monster, smiling. Noticing his presence, her expression lightened as the Wendigo scrutinized her. It was troubling to see the height difference. Lilith floated, like always, standing at a meter thirty seven.
The creature towered over the young kids, indifferent about her presence. They looked like they were on the same team. Which didn't reassure the boy a lot.
- Lilith...Isaac mumbled, staring at her with the taste of betrayal like poison on his tongue and hatred boiling him all over
As a response, the Wendigo growled, the spectrum stopping it with a gesture with her hand. It grew smaller and whined, complaining, but it obeyed.
- Ah, are you this surprised that a three hundread and five year old ghost has this type of contacts? You can't be this idiot!
Sir Alfred William Smith clenched his fists while breathing heavily, his eyes shining with intense rage that could've sent a shiver along the monster's spine. But it didn't.
- Lilith, why did you wake me up? The old man grumbled, glaring at her
Alfred was not expecting Lilith to start laughing uncontrollably, the Wendigo agreeing with a low groan. Embarrased intinctively, the group directed their gazes to the floor, yet the man didn't stop gazing at the traitors.
- Don't be so impatient, it was going to happen one day or the other! Vociferated the spirit, still laughing
- You can't wake me up for nothing, using me when you feel like it! You have your good friends, you don't need me, I'm just a deceased king. I am now condemned to live eternally, just because of you! And in my opinion, serving the cause of a deceased Brown is worse than death!
Speechless, Lilith blinked a few times, without flinching. Her gaze hardened, the corner of her lips twitching into a mischievous smirk.
- So you admit I'm a Brown? She teased as she stepped closer to the man
Isaac and his friends stood there, terrified. Sir Alfred William Smith was courageous enough to talk to her this way, as a monstrous beast was standing alongside her, waiting for an order.
Yet he didn't seem scared either. He had that one victorious smile, as if he knew something that Lilith didn't. This might've been in their heads, yet they didn't think so.
Alphy hid something.
With a brutal aggressively, the Wendigo lunged on Alfred William Smith, its claws out. With a loud yell, the man struggle and tried to escape its grip, pained. As he kept on moving, Lilith watched the scenery with a sadistic smile. For a few seconds, she seemed hesitant, but then her smirk was back again.
- You're a monster! Marilou hissed as she shook her head
Her smile widening and her expression darkening, the ghost laughed even harder. The Wendigo held the man tightly, as he struggled and tried to go away. He looked like a child having a crisis.
- Oh, I'm not a monster, he's the monster, obviously. He needs one human per week minimum, and he keeps it during three days in its storage!
Marilou didn't know how to react to this. Agape, she shook her head. The teen found this awful and terrible, and she didn't want Alphy to die this way.
- If you needed him enough to bring him back to life, then why are you killing him? Do you have a heart, Lilith?
- Oh, I don't need him anymore, she shrugged, I found a better acolyte.
Everyone stared at each other, shocked. Lilith looked like a real porcelain doll, but her heart was as dark as the Wendigo's. Marilou and Isaac frowned, watching the creature run away with the man within its grip. Their eyes met; they had to save the man.
