The silence between them was deafening as they locked gazes, each trying to decipher the other's thoughts. Kai's eyes were like a steel trap, giving nothing away and leaving Leo feeling vulnerable and exposed.
Leo shifted uneasily, his mind racing with doubts and fears. The intensity of Kai's unwavering stare made him want to shrink into himself, wishing he could disappear from the uncomfortable situation. Each second felt like an eternity as the tension in the air grew thicker, making Leo's heart race with nervousness.
Kai's expression remained stoic, his eyes not showing even a hint of emotion. It was as if he had built a wall around himself, his thoughts and feelings carefully guarded. Leo felt frustrated and desperate for some kind of response from him.
The weight of unspoken questions hung heavily between them, creating an almost tangible pressure. But still, Kai said nothing, his gaze piercing through Leo like a knife.
Finally, unable to bear the silence any longer, Leo mustered up the courage to speak. "I need to understand," he said quietly, his voice shaking with emotion. "Why are you helping me?"
For a moment, something flickered in Kai's eyes—a hint of sadness or maybe regret. But just as quickly as it appeared, it vanished behind the mask of indifference. He stayed silent, his gaze never wavering.
Leo's frustration boiled over at this point, and he couldn't hold back any longer. "You can't keep everything bottled up inside," he blurted out, his voice laced with desperation. "We're in this together whether you like it or not."
Kai's expression softened slightly at this outburst, but he still didn't open up. The silence stretched on between them, and Leo's anxiety continued to grow.
Feeling like he was standing on the edge of a cliff, waiting for something—anything—to happen, Leo couldn't take it any longer. He stood up abruptly, his frustration and confusion spilling out. "What is it about you that makes it so hard for me to trust you?" he yelled, feeling a sense of desperation. "If we're going to be stuck together, I at least deserve to know who you are."
"The less you know, the better," Kai replied, his tone final and resolute.
Leo's heart sank at this response, leaving him with more questions than answers. The tension between them remained, a fragile truce in the face of the unknown.
