Leo was in a deep sleep, his body finally giving in to the exhaustion. Suddenly, he was being shaken violently. His eyes snapped open, his mind still foggy with sleep. He heard Kai's voice, urgent and commanding. "Wake the fuck up, Leo!"
Leo's eyes struggled to adjust to the dim light. As his vision cleared, he saw Kai battling the undead, his movements swift and deadly. Panic surged through Leo, and he quickly stumbled to his feet, his heart pounding in his chest. He barely had time to react as one of the dead lunged at Kai from behind. Without thinking, Leo threw himself at the zombie, tackling it to the ground. They hit the floor with a thud, the walker clawing and snapping at Leo, trying to sink its decaying teeth into his neck.
Leo struggled against the weight of the undead, fear gripping his every move. Just as it seemed the zombie would overpower him, Kai drew a knife and plunged it through the walker's head. The creature went limp, dropping to Leo's side.
Gasping for breath, Leo pushed the dead weight off him and looked up at Kai, his eyes wide with shock. "What the hell is happening?" he managed to choke out, his voice trembling.
Kai looked at Leo with a mixture of exasperation and sarcasm. "While you were getting your beauty sleep, walkers managed to sneak in at first light," he said, his tone dripping with irony. He quickly glanced around, the intensity in his eyes growing. "I fear there's a horde coming. We need to move, now."
Leo stared at the zombie laying next to him, his mind still reeling from the close call. Kai kicked at his shoe, snapping him out of his daze. "Get up and follow me," Kai ordered, his voice leaving no room for argument. Leo nodded, scrambling to his feet as they prepared to face whatever came next.
Leo stood and quickly gathered his things, his movements hurried but cautious. He followed Kai through the crumbling building, his eyes darting to every shadow and corner. The air was thick with tension, and Leo's senses were on high alert.
Suddenly, a screeching scream pierced the air, the unmistakable sound of a prowler. The hair on the back of Leo's neck stood on end, and his heart raced even faster. He glanced at Kai, who was already moving with a heightened sense of urgency.
"Don't stop, and stay close," Kai commanded, his voice firm and unyielding.
Leo followed Kai, his footsteps echoing in the dilapidated corridors. The creature's scream echoed through the building, sending chills down his spine. They had to keep moving, had to find a way out before the horror closed in on them.
Another screeching scream pierced the air, this time coming from the direction they were headed. Leo and Kai paused simultaneously, their eyes searching the early morning dawn. Leo's breath caught in his throat as he saw a prowler crawling out from a room ahead of them.
He reached out and tugged on Kai's shirt, signaling the immediate danger. Kai, who had been focused on the prowler behind them, turned his attention forward. His eyes motioned to the closest room they could duck into, hoping for the best.
Taking a deep breath, Kai led the way, carefully pushing open the door to the room. The tension was palpable as they slipped inside, closing the door quietly behind them. They were once again in a cramped space, hiding from the horrors that lurked outside. The only difference this time was the overwhelming sense of urgency and the knowledge that they had to find a way out before it was too late.
