After some time, Luna feels the RV come to a stop. Sunny shouts from the driver's seat, "Wake up, we're here!" Luna rolls off the couch and groggily looks at a clock on the wall. To her shock, she sees it's 6:00 A.M. Luna drags herself toward the kitchen of the RV to make some coffee, only to see that some has already been made. A faint smile forms on her face.
As she pours herself a cup of coffee, Sunny steps into the kitchen a few minutes later. "Alrighty, partner, ready for your training in a bit?"
Luna blinks one eye and then the other. "Now? It's so early." She has a dejected look on her face, her frown as pitiful as it gets.
"Oh, calm down, partner. It'll be fine! Besides, early hunters get to hunt first!" Sunny lets out a laugh before turning on the oven to cook.
"It's early bird gets the worm!" Luna shouts.
An hour passes, and after they've both eaten, they step out of the RV.
Luna is greeted by a dilapidated, large house that looks run-down and abandoned. She glances around and notices they're clearly in a forest. Trees stretch as far as the eye can see, surrounding them completely. She looks back at Sunny, raising an eyebrow.
"Umm, Sunny, so what exactly is my training?" Luna asks hesitantly.
Sunny strides up to the house and kicks the door wide open with a grin.
"Simple, partner! I'm gonna teach you the basics of Will, psychic abilities, and magic—and then you're gonna use everything I've taught you to fix this building up!" Sunny lets out a laugh "Oh, and I'm pretty certain theirs a violent monster in this house maybe somewhere in the basement!"
Luna peers inside the house with a fearful expression. "Oh, great. Let me guess—there's going to be a knife-wielding doll in there, and its name starts with a C and rhymes with Bucky?" She whips her head toward Sunny, raising an eyebrow.
Sunny chuckles. "Oh, that thing you fought in the RV? Yeah, no, I set that up. It was a construct of sorts with a malice core in it. You were never in any real danger. If things had gotten hairy, I would've stepped in!"
She takes a long step into the house, and her eye twitches as she takes in the sight of the run-down interior. "Holy fuck, this place looks terrible!" Luna shouts. As she speaks, a cloud of dust floats into her mouth, causing her to cough and pound her chest as she spits it out. "F-fuck! And why this place? Why not somewhere in the city or something?" she asks, still out of breath.
Sunny shrugs with a grin. "Hmm, because this place is gonna be our base of operations. There's a town nearby and a city about a two-hour drive from here!" Luna lets out a long groan "Ughh alright lets get to work I guess!" Sunny flashes Luna a thumbs up "That's the spirit!"
"Now then, partner, I'm gonna teach you a few basic spells first. Then I'll cover the basics of psychic abilities and give you a little insight into what Kinesis is—though we don't need to focus on that too much. After that, I'll teach you how to access willpower."
Luna's eyes brighten slightly, though she still feels a bit nervous. After all, her first training involved fighting a killer doll, so she knows Sunny has an... interesting way of teaching. Sunny waves her finger, pointing at a broom, which suddenly starts sweeping the floor on its own.
"Wait, did you say an incantation or something?" Luna asks, raising an eyebrow.
"Oh!" Sunny facepalms. "Yeah, I should probably teach you that. But if you use a spell enough times, it gets ingrained in you, and you won't need to shout the incantation or follow activation requirements anymore!"
Sunny pulls out a piece of paper and hands it to Luna. "Here you go, doll!"
Luna blushes lightly at being called "doll" but quickly takes the paper. "This should contain the basic spells and how to cast them!" Sunny adds with a grin.
Luna quickly skims over the notes, then pulls out the book she had been reading earlier, flipping through its pages to refresh her memory on how to activate her mana. After some time, Luna points her finger at the broom. She breathes in and out, focusing on her mana. She channels the energy through her finger and shouts, "Move and go left and right!"
The broom begins to float, rapidly moving left and right before suddenly flinging itself through the wall!
"Hmm, well, it seems your first major hurdle will be control, huh, Luna?" Sunny says, raising an eyebrow.
Luna quickly goes to pull the broom out of the wall, letting out a massive sigh. "This is going to be a long day!"
Sunny walks over, twirling her finger as she points at the damaged wall. The wall begins to repair itself. "Don't stress about it too much. You just need practice, that's all!" she says, placing a reassuring hand on Luna's shoulder.
After several attempts, and flinging the broom around time after time, Luna is finally able to get the broom to sweep a bit of dust off the floor! Though it's a small accomplishment, Luna looks proud of herself.
"Sunny, I did it!" Luna shouts at the top of her lungs.
Sunny sticks her head out from around the corner. "Good job! I knew you could do it. Keep practicing that spell, and you'll be able to do it effortlessly in no time!"
Luna begins pacing the house, casting spell after spell, making the broom move alongside her as it sweeps the floors. She looks down the hallway she's in, only to realize she's barely scratched the surface of cleaning the place.
Frustrated, Luna quickly grabs the paper of spells, rapidly scanning it until her eyes land on what she believes to be a wind spell. "Okay, let's try this. 'Blow and blow, may the wind blow my way!'" she shouts at the top of her lungs.
Meanwhile, Sunny, who is checking the house's wiring, suddenly hears what sounds like a tornado ripping through the house, followed by Luna's frantic cries for help. Letting out a hearty laugh, Sunny rushes over to find out what's going on.
Sunny quickly leaps into action, placing her hand in front of the miniature tornado. With a simple gesture, she dispels it before catching Luna in her arms.
"Well, if I hadn't been here, you wouldn't be in Kansas anymore!" Sunny bursts out laughing at her joke.
"Haha, very funny," Luna groans before pointing out, "Wait, we're in Colorado!" She rolls her eyes.
After a few minutes of catching her breath and gathering her bearings from being blown around, Luna looks at Sunny. "Wait, so what about that psychic stuff?"
Sunny suddenly has a nervous look in her eyes. "Uhhhh, alrighty, I guess we can try it, but, uh, let's go outside!"
As Luna and Sunny make their way through the house to the great outdoors, they walk a decent distance from the house.
"Okay, so using psychic energy is a bit different from using mana," Sunny explains. She points her finger toward a rock, then places another finger on her temple.
The rock begins to lift into the air as Sunny focuses her psychic energy.
Alter floats next to Luna, smirking. "Oi, dumbass. Some advice: when you're trying to do anything related to psychokinesis, you have to focus—really focus." She points to Sunny. "You see the wannabe blondie over there? How she's doing it—that's a decent form. However, I can do better!" Alter says with a smug grin.
"Second, it's like using mana but a tad bit different. While psychic energy and mana can both create things, psychic energy is more about manipulation and bending, so keep that in mind!" Alter waves her finger, all while Luna looks utterly shocked.
"D-do you know a lot about this psychic s-stuff?" Luna stammers.
Alter's face somehow looks even more smug. "Yes, I do! In fact, back in my day, I was a top-class Esper!" She nods in approval of her own comment.
"Wait, wait, wait—what do you mean 'back in your day'!?" Luna whips her head toward Alter, only for Alter to point toward Sunny.
"Look out!"
Luna quickly turns to Sunny, only to see her flicking a rock at Luna's forehead.
"Ouch!" Luna yelps, rubbing her forehead as Sunny gives her an annoyed look.
"Partner, pay attention!"
Luna immediately straightens up. "Y-yes, ma'am!"
Sunny smiles before walking over to Luna and placing her thumb on Luna's forehead. "May this magic wash over and cure your ailments!" Luna feels the pain in her forehead dissipate entirely.
"Alright, now focus up! To access your psychic waves, it's like using your mana but more physical—something you do in your head. To help you out..." Sunny pulls out a necklace with a green gem embedded in it and puts it around Luna's neck.
"Here you go. Now meditate while wearing this and focus!" Sunny instructs, her tone both encouraging and firm.
Luna closes her eyes, focusing on the necklace and blocking everything else out. "Alright, magic necklace, help me move things with my mind!"
The more Luna tries to concentrate, the harder it seems. She channels her mana instead of psychic waves, unable to lift the rock even an inch.
"Huh... well, I guess we can come back to this later, partner?" Luna says, opening her eyes with a mix of frustration and resignation.
Sunny lets out a reassuring sigh. "I see, but it's okay! Most hunters tend to specialize in one or two areas, not all three, so don't worry about it!" She gives Luna a thumbs-up and a warm smile.
Alter lets out a dramatic sigh. "Oh well, I guess not everyone can be as great as me, the one and only. Go back to your spells and books, dork. When you're ready to learn how to be an Esper, I might just help you!"
She lets out a smug laugh before vanishing into thin air, leaving Luna rolling her eyes.
Luna drags herself back inside, determined to at least finish this "so-called training" to fix the house. Though she can't shake the feeling that Sunny is just trying to get some free labor out of her, she decides to push through. After all, having a place to call her own is a goal worth working toward, and it's what keeps her moving forward.
Well practicing that wind spell from earlier this time with better result she ponders about that willpower stuff she wonders if she will even be able to use it maybe she's only able to use magic! "Well maybe that's not worst only focusing on one thing!" she speaks out loud while cleaning up some more dust
Luna pulls out the book she was given. "Well, what does it say about willpower anyway?" She tilts her head as she reads, flipping through page after page until she finally finds a section that mentions it. It reads as follows:
"When using willpower, there are several ways to access it. One common method is through a ritual, which varies in execution but always involves the person standing in the center of a sigil drawn on the ground. Another way to access your inner will is to have prior experience with either psychic energy and or mana, then face a stressful situation that forces it to awaken. The third known method is to have it forcefully activated by another willpower technique. However, this method carries a risk of potentially harming the individual, so caution is advised when attempting it."
Luna raises an eyebrow, her curiosity piqued but with a hint of unease. "Great, stressful situations and potential harm. Just my luck..." she mutters.
Luna rolls her eyes as she walks around the house, eventually making her way to the basement. When she arrives, she notices the door is covered in locks—at least fifty of them! Her jaw practically drops to the floor in disbelief.
As she reaches out to touch the door, a voice echoes from the other side that speaks with a low bellowed roar!
"LET! ME! OUT!"
