"So when's the ceremony?" Alma dusted the coffee excess off of the portafilter basket with her fingers. After Violet's feet got tired from all the browsing around the shop, the archangel offered them something nice to drink, leading them to the studio style apartment above the record store to continue their conversation.
"If everything goes smoothly with the tour then it should be around February" Nat informed her, layed down and stretched over a sofa in the flat, "But I'm not sure. I might stay forever on this couch from now on…"
Violet, who was sitting next to her fiancée, playfully slapped her arm "Nonsense! We're going to Santiago even if this couch is extremely comfortable or not."
"I'm sure everything will go perfectly" The angel quickly blessed the couple whilst tampering with the espresso grounds with extreme precision. "February sounds perfect. Less stress about extreme weather conditions and enough time to find you a present."
"Oh no-no-no-no! There's no need. You and your partner going is more than enough for us" The young brunette said timidly, not wanting to cause even a hint of inconvenience.
"I wouldn't mind this couch." Her girlfriend said as she was resting her head on the other woman's lap. Violet grabbed her ear and stretched it.
"Ow! You're such a bully!" Nathalie exclaimed though she didn't feel anything, not even a tickle.
Alma leaned back on the counter, hands on the cold surface, the machine burbling as it brewed the espressos. She had done all the steps flawlessly, so this might be her best work yet.
"Nonsense! Esther and I will get you something. And I'm thinking small, so no need to worry."
"Not to sound rude or ungrateful, but you said something similar to Nathalie before purchasing the store..."
"And now we're a story of rags to riches. From struggling young adults to filthy rich grandmas! We're set for life!" Nathalie pointed out with a big laugh, Violet sighing in frustration with a small head shake.
"What we mean is that your ‘small’ can be a lot. Being able to just have a nice time with our friends" Violet smiled kindly "That's the true gift.”
The slight hissing of the steamer told that the angel had started to steam the milk, "Grandmas? You're still young, my dears”, she stopped frothing once the milk was textured, and cleaned up everything around the station. “And you were extremely underselling this place. I simply paid what it’s true worth."
"You’re going to buy something, aren't you?" Violet asked defeated, already knowing the answer.
Alma smiled quite smug as she poured the foam over the beverages, "I know you two are sincere and want only my presence. It makes me happy, really."
She walked over to the couple and served them the cups, each one with a heart pattern drawn over the top layer of foam, "I promise it'll be something simple. Nothing that might eclipse your special day."
The couple squinted at Alma in suspicion before sipping their coffee, and before they could argue further...
"Holy. Shit."
"¡Vaya!"
The angel sipped her cup very self-satisfied. While still not her best work, it was pretty good. Esther would be proud.
Nathalie and Violet saw how her caramel eyes twinkled with mirth.
After a long chat and rekindling, and despite their wishes, the couple needed to get going, luggage wasn't going to do itself after all. They were now outside of the shop, bidding their farewells.
"Aaaand here's the incense that I promised you", Alma handed Violet a sparkly little gift bag.
"Thank you so much for the lovely evening" the dark haired woman said while inspecting the bag, making sure there weren't any extra handouts... One could never be too sure with a friend like Alma.
"It was a delight seeing you again" the angel smiled, giving the women one last hug "please come back soon, I’m missing you already."
"We will, you sap" Nat patted Alma's back "And we'll see each other on the big day."
Alma let go of the girls "I'll be there no matter what. I'm so excited!"
"Ah! I almost forgot" Violet searched inside her purse, her hands taking out a decorated card. "All the details are there."
"Oh wow, we almost left our star guest clueless. Wondering around, nowhere to go, holding an enormous present and no one to give it to…" Nat shook her head in sarcastic shame.
"I'd find my way." The angel mused while looking over to the other side of the street, “I always do”. Taking a deep breath, she put her focus back on the lovely pair "Really, thank you for coming and I wish you the best tour ever."
"It was great, you're keeping everything in perfect shape" The brunette said very pleased, taking one last look at the outside of the shop.
"It is magnificent. See you in a couple of months!"
They gave each other a kiss on the cheek farewell and the soon-to-be newlyweds walked away.
"Take care, my dears!" Alma exclaimed while waving, the women waving back before they disappeared into the crowded streets.
