The frog was having trouble adapting to her new body. She had grown up being a frog. She didn’t know how to be a human. She did notice some changes, Her body felt different, like she felt warmer. She felt her chest was heavier as two lumps of fat were now there. What are these for? Some things were still the same. Her hands and feet still loooked like a frogs. She felt a bit sad about that. The frog tried her best to move like the knights did. Her legs straightened and she stood up. Her back was hunched, old habits. She did her best to straighten it. It felt odd. It was odd being this tall, it was disorienting. She did feel better overall. It was closer to her ideal body. So that was nice.
The frog’s stomach rumbled. She was in some kind of marshland. She was used to this environment. She decided it would be best to find some food. A smell wafted into her nose. She followed the scent and she could smell roasted potatoes. She followed the scent and it led her to a pair of women. One had this somber look about her, she had black hair and green eyes. Her companion had brown hair with a streak of blonde, and brown eyes. The green eyed girl had a cloak that gave her this formless shape, the only feature of hers that stood out was her face. The brown eyed girl wore what looked like leather armor, boots, and some kind of long range weapon. The brown eyed girl ate the potato with such joy. The frog began to salivate as her stomach rumbled. Without any hesitation and quick as a whip the frog used its tongue to snatch the potato.
“Hey!” The brown eyed girl yelled as she went for her weapon. The frog fearing the worst sped off. She launched into the air using her new powerful legs. She had never jumped this high before. She could see above the treetops. It was exhilerating. The only issue was the brown eyed girl could see her as well. The brown eyed girl steadied her crossbow, took aim, and fired. The frog felt pain explode in her shoulder as the elation quickly came to an end. As she started to fall. The frog quickly dropped like a pile of rocks. The girls advanced towards the frog.
The frog got up feeling dizzy. “Bigger body bigger target” The frog said as she looked to her arm and winced in pain. The brown eyed girl had got her, she was stuck to a tree. The two girls quickly advanced on the frog.
“I could hit you even if you were the size of a fly. Especially at this range.” The brown eyed girl had the crossbow ready to fire before the frog's face. She smiled ominously.
“Yadi stop it!” The green eyed girl pushed the brown eyed one.
“She took my food Luna. You know how long I’ve been waiting to eat that?” The brown eyed girl, Yadi had said.
“And we can get more food, she’s just a girl.” The green eyed girl, Luna, stood in front of the frog. Luna quickly took note of the frogs state of dress and covered her with her cloak. "Poor girl can't even afford clothes."
“What kind of girl do you know that can do what she did? Leaping into the air effortlessly and that tongue. She’s definitely some kind of monster.” Yadi said matter-of-factly
“Maybe she was just hungry, You know a monster would have just killed us and taken our food.” Luna stated, Yadi could see her point but she was still mad.
“If she’s no monster then explain her hands and feet. They look just like they belong to a frog, and now that I think about it she has a frog-like tongue too. I say we kill her before she causes any more trouble. Maybe we will even get paid and we can get more food.” Yadi’s stomach audibly grumbled. The frog started to feel self conscious. She knew she was in the process of getting her ideal body but the fact that she wasn’t in that body yet. Her hands and feet felt big and ugly. This pain was almost as bad as the arrow.
“Do I get any say in this?” The frog asked. Both of the girls yelped in surprise. The frog herself was surprised. “Is this my voice? Is that what I sound like?” The frog began to smile. “It sounds nice.” The frog had forgotten about the earlier comment and the arrow.
“Well now I’m not sure what she is. Monsters usually don’t talk, they make noises. I am interested to learn more about her. Yadi please remove your arrow and we can question her further.” Luna’s eyes lit up with curiosity. Yadi broke off the arrow and removed it as the frog yelped in pain. “Here” Luna offered the frog some kind of paste. The frog took in gingerly. She then stuck it in her mouth and ate. “Hey! Wait, no that's not what it’s for. Spit that out, that's poisonous if ingested.”
“I don’t mind.” The frog said as she ate more of the paste.
Luna was dumbfounded. “Luna I told you she was a monster most girls would know that that’s medicine. Also, do you see her casually eating the poison?”
“My old diet used to consist of eating poisonous things. My stomach is good at taking out the poison and then letting me use that poison later if I need it.” The frog said as she felt her stomach. Her skin felt different from before, less slimy and more soft. It was nice. The frog then looked at her finger and saw they were still green. She managed to excrete some poison from them.
“Fascinating. Please try that medicine, I want to see if it works.” Luna was ecstatic.
“Apply it where?” The frog asked. She looked where the arrow was only to see that the wound had scarred over.
“Huh. I’m not sure if you can eat it. I’ve honestly been too scared to. You interest me and I want to learn more about you. Would you be interested in tagging along with us so I can study you more closely?” Luna offered a kind hand. The frog felt like she could trust her. Something in her eyes.
The frog stood up and she was taller than Luna. “I would like to but I have a mission from the goddess to find a knight and defeat a dragon. It also seems like your friend doesn’t like me very much.”
“She has a past with monsters.” Luna explained. Yadi looked at her hand. Upon closer inspection the frog could see her hand was made of wood. Did that make her part tree? “It sounds like maybe our paths may align. We were on our way to see some knights to collect payment for a bounty. We also don’t like the dragon much either.”
The frog's eyes lit up. “Please take me with you. I promise not to steal anymore of your food.”
“You better not frog. Or else next time I’m aiming for that pretty face of yours.” Yadi said, her wooden arm holding a crossbow.
“You think I’m pretty?” The frog felt heat rush to her cheeks. The frog didn’t think she would ever be called pretty.
“What? It’s an expression. Well I guess frogs don’t have expressions. Don’t let it get to your head. Besides” Yadi’s eyes flashed to Luna. “ you're not my type anyway.”
“I don’t like the way she says frog, can we call me something else?” The frog asked, still a bit flustered from the compliment.
“Well what would you like us to call you my drippy friend?” Luna asked
“That’s it!” The frog said excitedly.
“Friend?” Luna asked, confused.
The Frog shook her head. “Drippy. Call me Drippy. That name feels right.” The frog, Drippy, smiled brightly.
