The Next day, after Gomu spent the night at Enjo’s apartment, the two of them left for the Basement early in the morning. Gomu’s injuries had recovered surprisingly fast, while not healed fully they were healed to the point she wasn’t very hindered. Enjo took his key out and unlocked the Basement, which was made into a makeshift Yakuza Base. It had amenities like a Fridge and Microwave, a table for games, a TV, and a larger table for meetings.
“Woah…how’d you get all this down here?” Gomu asked him, looking around at the Basement. “It’s almost like a house down here…”
“We make sure Thugs stay away from the Apartment Complex, since it’s cheap and people suffering use it a lot.” Enjo explained, as he turned the power on. “They let us set this up in return.”
“Well that’s nice of you guys…” Gomu replied. “So…who are the other members?”
“One would be me.” A female Voice spoke, startling Gomu.
Gomu looked around, seeing no one. Then, a woman suddenly grew to normal size next to her, making her jump a bit.
“Name’s Julia, hon.” She said, seeming very casual. “I stay hidden here to watch the place along with Chinmoku.”
“Chinmoku” Gomu questioned.
Julia pointed to a corner of the Basement hidden behind the entry. There, a man was sitting and reading a book. She was surprised, as no sound at all came from him. He looked up, and closed his book, then snapped his fingers, which not only made a sound, but seemingly made him start making sound normally again.
“I am Chinmoku.” He said, in a deep voice. “I use my Ability to keep myself Silent while guarding.”
“Um, I’m…Gomu…it’s nice to meet you both.” Gomu said, a bit nervously.
“Don’t worry, Chinmoku’s probably the weirdest.” Enjo said, wiping dust off the large table. “They’re the two most mild, though.”
Gomu sat down on a bean bag chair in front of the TV. She winced a little as she sat down.
“You okay?” Julia questioned. “Or did you and Enjo-”
“Finish that sentence and I’ll knock your molars out.” Enjo interrupted, making Julia chuckle mischievously.
“I-it’s just some bruises that haven’t healed yet…maybe a cracked pelvis…” Gomu said, a bit pained.
“Why didn’t you go to a Hospital then?” Julia asked.
“We think the Kage No O Family is after her. It was too dangerous.” Chinmoku replied. “Besides, it seems her injuries heal quick.”
“...How did YOU know that?” Gomu questioned, before turning to Enjo. “Is he who you texted last night?”
“Nope.” Enjo replied, seeming unphased.
“I looked through his phone while he slept.” Chinmoku replied, bluntly.
“Yeah he has a weird habit of looking into…like EVERYTHING. He even reads our mail.” Julia explained.
Julia and Chinmoku sat and talked with Gomu, while they waited for the others to show up. Gomu didn’t have much to talk about, given her memory problems, so it was mostly her listening to Julia and Chinmoku talk about their pasts and stuff. Apparently Chinmoku was in a Band before he became a Yakuza, and Julia was in the Architect field. Enjo didn’t talk about much, other than being a delinquent in School. As they were getting ready to dig into some microwaved Mac n’ Cheese, the Basement Door opened and two people walked in. One looked fairly normal, other than having black Facepaint on and wild hair, while the other was a short woman who had bug-like eyes and butterfly wings.
“Juryoku, Konchu, nice of you to be relatively early for once.” Enjo said, walking over to greet them. “Gomu, this man here is Juryoku. He was the 2nd member after myself.”
“Hey, lady. Enjo texted me about ya last night.” Juryoku said. His voice was casual, but had a hint of delinquency to it. “Nice to see ya, too, Julia~”
Julia got up and the two of them kissed briefly.
“For once you aren’t late~” Julia said, teasingly.
“For once you aren’t trying to make yourself taller than me~” Juryoku replied, equally teasing.
Gomu chuckled a bit, seeing the lovebirds flirting, but was surprised when she felt Konchu grab her shoulders from behind. With no warning, Konchu flew up to her and sniffed her nape. She made a slight buzzing sound and let go.
“...Can…can I help you?” Gomu said, completely weirded out. She was starting to doubt Enjo’s statement about Chinmoku being the weirdest.
“Just getting the feel of your Scent.” Konchu replied, holding out her long sleeve for a handshake. “Name’s Konchu. I lay eggs.”
“You what-” Gomu said out of shock.
“She does NOT lay eggs, she just says that to mess with people.” Enjo corrected, slightly annoyed.
“Right…so…” Gomu said, still quite weirded out. “We were talking about what you guys did before the Yakuza stuff…”
“Well I was the leader of a School Gang. I met Enjo during my Junior Year, though he was from a School Across the Country.” Juryoku replied.
“I was an Entomologist.” Konchu said, holding up a bowl of rice and eating it with rapid bites.
“Interesting…” Gomu said, smiling a little and starting to relax. “I’m thirsty, be right back!”
Gomu got up and went to the Kitchen area. She got a bottle of Juice out of the fridge and started to pour a glass, when she noticed someone behind her. She turned, thinking it was Enjo or one of the others, but she saw instead a tall man standing nearly 6 feet tall, with white and black hair and his body covered in stitches and patches of grey skin. Reflexively, Gomu grabbed the glass and hit him with it! The glass shattered, leaving shards in the man’s face. He flinched slightly, and felt his face.
“...Ow.” He said, in a deep, moody voice. He pulled out one of the shards, and the wound closed so quick, she didn’t even see any blood. “You’re a skittish one aren’t you…”
“Fumetsu, people aren’t typically used to seeing a walking Frankenstein’s Monster.” Konchu said.
“Quiet, crazy lady.” Fumetsu replied, scowling a bit.
“That’s Fumetsu. He’s the 2nd in command.” Enjo told Gomu, helping to pick up the broken glass.
“Why isn’t Juryoku 2nd in command if he’s the 2nd member?” Gomu questioned, still a little shaken.
“Because he’s easily the dumbest here.” Fumetsu said, bluntly. “If he was the Vice, we’d be handling every conflict by punching things.”
“Hey! It works!” Juryoku yelled.
They heard the door open, and all looked over to see two more people walk in. One was a large and muscular woman wearing all Pink, and the other was a short man with his arms tied together using a long Leather Belt. The pink woman walked up, and patted Gomu’s head.
“You’re the gal Juryoku told us ‘bout huh?” She asked. “Name’s Kireina!”
“Uh…hi…you’re tall…” Gomu said, not knowing what else to say. “...seriously how are you so tall…”
Kireina chuckled and patted Gomu’s back, nearly knocking her over. “Don’t worry, people ask that a lot! I’m taller than Fumetsu, even!”
“By like two inches.” Fumetsu said.
Gomu looked at the short guy who entered along with her. Seeing him closer, she noticed his pupils were slit, and he had a lot of REALLY sharp teeth. He almost looked like a Shark or Piranha. He looked up at her, with his face in a permanent Glare.
“Uh…Hello, there…my name is Gomu-” She held out her hand for a handshake, then pulled back, realizing her mistake. “Uhhh…”
“...Hmph.” Taberu scoffed, as Juryoku and Kireina were struggling to contain their laughter. “Taberu.”
Taberu walked away and sat on a bean bag chair.
“Ah, don’t worry about him, he’s always pissed!” Kireina said, chuckling. “He has the temper of a chihuahua!”
“Shuddup!” Taberu yelled, angrily. “Tall-ass!”
“Short-ass!” Kireina yelled back.
“Those two fight a lot, don’t they?” Gomu questioned.
“Enough to make me want to pummel them both.” Enjo answered, making Gomu chuckle a bit.
She looked around at the members of the “Family”. They didn’t seem mean like other Yakuza to her. She’d seen a lot of Thugs, but they were different. She actually felt comfortable around them, despite their weirdness. Especially around Enjo.
