杨 (yáng): pronounced like the word “young”
英 (yīng): pronounced like the word “wing”, but with a "y" instead of a "w"
Yang is his surname, and Ying is his first name. With Chinese names, people with one-word first names (as opposed to two) are called with their full name instead of just their first name.
P.S. In my experience, shushing a cat like that doesn't actually work. They’ll just keep meowing until they're satisfied (or you fulfil their wishes). But let’s all just collectively agree to look past that :P
Yang Ying has heard those words one too many times already. Those are the words that follow blatant mockeries spat at his face. Those are the words that are supposed to lessen the pain of the bullying, but never do. Those are the words that supposedly wiser and worldlier adults use to justify their harassment of a small child.
This is a short story about trauma, and how it lingers.
