"Magic comes from a source called Terraka. Meaning earth and spirit, it was named after our first ancestor who was blessed by the goddess to bring light upon the world when it was consumed by the great darkness caused by the dark lord. It is the source of all magic and we were given the ability to teach it to others.", Eira continued, explaining her past and the basics of using Terraka.
While she explained, Kyros daydreamed about shooting fireballs from his sword and maybe even his fists. Seraphina on the other hand drooled over her notes, probably dreaming about more potato chips.
Eira, being so immersed in explaining her culture, and history, couldn't notice that her fellow human allies weren't paying attention. She clapped her hands, making Seraphina and making Kyros focus again.
"Alright. It's time for the practical.", she said, feeling energized while she enjoyed teaching the two.
The trio went outside to to start practicing, sitting in a meditative lotus position.
"Now, breathe in, imagine the energy around the world surrounding you. The energy is everywhere around the earth. Allow that energy to enter through your nostrils into you core, located in the center of your chest. Allow it to enter that core, and breathe it out, placing it into the core, and repeat. The process is to collect energy until your core is full. That is when it will bloom and you will be able to control the Terraka inside and around you.", Eria explained the process, simple enough for even a toddler to understand.
Seraphina was able to do this process and could feel a warm feeling in her chest as it glowed.
"Wow...", she said, shocked and amazed by the sensation of energy.
"Very good, it seems you found this part so easy Seraphina.", Eira complimented.
Kyros on the other hand was having a hard time, the light in his chest only flickering.
(Why they hell isn't it working!? I keep repeating the process as she says I should be doing.)
[Notice: Your body is incapable of using magic.]
(What? But I'm the main character. How does that even work?)

(What? That's unfair though!)

"Your core is smaller than average however I'm sure it will work.", Eira said with a smug look on her face.
"What's with that look?", Kyros asked her, annoyed by it.
"Well I'm just shocked that the so-called 'Chosen Hero' that is destined to defeat the dark lord isn't good at using magic. I guess even the strongest of heroes have weaknesses.", Eira replied, still keeping the smug look on her face.
"Whatever. Can we just continue with the lesson already?"
"Fine fine. The next step is finding your magic class. The are two types of magic classes. Casters, that use spells and incantations to cast magic, buff and heal. And enchanters who can increase the strength of their weapons and armour by enchanting them. To find out whether you're a caster, you need to try a simple incantation from a spell book. To find out if you're an enchanter, you need to enchant a piece of your equipment.", Eira explained.
"Start with trying to enchant your weapons. To do this, let the energy from your core flow into your weapons and think of what you want to increase, whether strength or durability.", she added.
The duo picked up their weapons. Seraphina started, easily letting the magic flow onto her weapon, as it started glowing, increasing the durability. Kyros, was having trouble. His sword blinking as the magic went on and off.
"Well done Seraphina. It seems you have a knack for learning magic... and uhh... Kyros... maybe you're a caster instead.", Eira said. "But not to worry. I have a spellbook right here. Try the levitation incantation to lift up your sword."
Kyros read the incantation but no effect. He tried again and again and again. Only for nothing to work.
Eira chuckled watching him suffer. "Try a casting incantation instead.", she said, paging to a simple casting incantation. He gathered his energy into his hands while he said the incantation. A small burst of energy flew out but dissapeared into sparkles of light. Eira laughed very hard, falling to the floor. Kyros, angry, shouted at her telling her it wasn't funny. After trying over and over nothing worked. The day ended swiftly. Kyros laid on his bed, staring at the wooden roof above him. Drained yet sleepless. He thought of how unfair it was that he couldn't use magic despite being the hero of the story.
(No need to remind me of my misery... I'll just drink that mana potion maybe I'll somehow be able to use magic properly.)
The potion materialized from his inventory to his hand and he drank it whole. He waited for a moment before his stomach rejected it, forcing him to vomit.
(Ughh... it feels like there's a battlefield in my stomach.)
[Notice: People unable to use magic aren't able to digest mana potions, causing their bodies to reject them.]
(Thanks for only telling me right after I drank it...)
[Notice: You're welcome!]
(I hate you...)
He laid back and closed his eyes.
The next day, the trio gathered for breakfast, the air buzzing with excitement. The announcement of the Magic Battle Festival had everyone talking. Only magic was allowed, so no weapons could be used. Seraphina, being an enchanter, couldn't participate, much to her disappointment.
"This is so unfair," Seraphina grumbled, poking at her food. "I wanted to show off my skills too."
Eira would observe the event with her father and mother. She tried to console Seraphina. "Don't worry, Seraphina. You'll have your chance to shine. Besides, you can cheer for Kyros."
Kyros, despite his struggles with magic, was made to join the festival. He felt a mix of anxiety and doubt as he prepared for the battles ahead. "I don't know if I can do this," he admitted.
"You'll be fine," Eira reassured him with a confident smile. "Just remember what we practiced."
The festival grounds were filled with participants and spectators, all eager to witness the magical duels. As the first match began, Kyros faced his opponent, a skilled caster.
"So you must be the so-called chosen hero who helped defeat the dark lord's army. Don't think you're special because you learnt magic yesterday, human.", the pointy-eared elf in a purple robe and hat said as she opened her spellbook and started casting. Closing her eyes she started her incatation, focusing all her energy into the spell.
"By the ancient powers of Terraka, I summon the forces of earth and spirit. Let the ground tremble beneath my feet, and the winds howl with fury. From the depths of the earth, rise and lend me your strength. By the light of the moon and the fire of the sun, I call upon the elements to heed my comma-", Kyros punched her in the face before she could finish, knocking her lights out. The crowd went silent for a moment.
"Did I... win?", Kyros asked nervously. The crowd went wild, cheering loudly.
"What a performance ladies and gentlemen! Our hero didn't even hesitate attacking before she could finish casting."
In the next fight his opponent threw fireballs effortlessly, causing Kyros to keep his distance.
"I can't get close so I have to use magic... Here goes nothing," Kyros muttered under his breath. He tried to use magic, but it only dispersed into light, confusing his enemy. Seizing the opportunity, Kyros closed the distance and engaged in hand-to-hand combat, using his physical strength to overpower his opponent.
"Did you see that?" Seraphina exclaimed, clapping her hands. "Kyros is amazing!"
The crowd watched in awe as he won the match, wondering what type of magic he used as it was never seen before.
[System: New Skill Unlocked: Confusion Magic: Confuses all living entites regardless of level, power and intelligence.]
(Confusion magic, huh? This is stupid.)
The tournament continued with Kyros spamming confusion magic and then winning in hand-to-hand combat. In the final fight, Kyros faced a bulky warrior who ignored his confusion magic. However, the particles caused the warrior to sneeze, giving Kyros the chance to land a powerful punch to the liver, knocking him out.
"Bless you," Kyros said sarcastically as his opponent fell.
"Ladies and Gentlemen! The winner of this year's magic festival! Kyros Brightblade!", the announcer rejoiced as the crowd cheered loudly for Kyros, chanting his name.
"This isn't how I imagined winning but... I'll take it" he sighed.
Eira and Seraphina watched with a mix of amusement and admiration in their eyes.
"Despite his struggles, Kyros has proven himself," Eira said. "Even if it wasn't in the way he had hoped."
"That's the chosen hero for ya!" Seraphina cheered.
