It had been three days since the incident at Halmarn Museum, yet the Braw Agents were already on another mission. Bobby and Hannah were at the train station. They were sitting on the bench, discussing things related to the mission. A steady curtain of rain fell from the grey, misty sky, but the shelter prevented them from getting wet.
“Okay, we’re going to take the train to Derian and walk into Kitayi Forest on foot,” explained Bobby, while he slid his finger along the map. Hannah investigated the noticeboard near her which stated the arrival and departure times for each train. “It says that the train from Fluvaria to Derian leaves at 10 am,” stated Hannah. “It’s nine forty-five right now,” she added as she looked at the clock near the ticket booth. “I hope the others arrive soon,” commented Bobby.
To Bobby’s delight, everyone else arrived at the train station in the next five minutes. Edward and Rita arrived together, while Narvy and Elsa coincidentally arrived at similar times. What intrigued everyone was that Elsa was carrying a paper bag. She reached her hand into the soggy bag and took out a lolly cake. “Where did you get the lolly cake from?” asked Edward. “I stopped by a cafe and got it,” answered Elsa. “Thankfully it’s not soggy.” As she ate it Bobby asked the rest of the Braw Agents about the plan. “Yep, we talked about this yesterday, we know what to do,” commented Narvy. “Why did it have to rain today?” asked Rita, in frustration. “Tell me about it,” replied Bobby.
Eventually time passed and 10 am arrived. At that point, the Braw Agents heard a loud sound that only meant one thing. It was a long electric train, soaring through the rails until it slowed down and parked near the Braw Agents. Shortly after, the doors opened like they had a mind of their own. All of the Braw Agents rushed into the train and found some seats. They weren’t the only ones to do so since other people from Fluvaria also had to use the train. Although they might not be going to Derian. Once everyone had entered the train, the doors closed, fully sealing the passengers inside the vehicle, and not allowing the rain to come in. The Braw Agents felt a sensation of movement as the train slowly glided across the tracks until it reached its maximum speed.
The Braw Agents watched as they left Fluvaria. It wasn’t long until they were able to look out of the window and not see the train station. At this point, it was just a matter of waiting until they got to Derian, albeit a two-hour-long wait on a public train which could potentially be longer due to stops at other train stations.
“Narvy?” asked Bobby. “We’re going to be on this train for quite some time, what should we do?” As Narvy took off his wet jacket, he gave Bobby an answer. “Honestly, we should just relax,” he explained. “This mission is going to get intense when we get to Kitayi Forest, so let’s just enjoy the calm atmosphere while we can.” Bobby agreed with Narvy and allowed himself to relax.
Meanwhile, Hannah looked out of the window. She saw landscapes running before her eyes, although her view was obscured by the army of raindrops invading the window. “This is so cool,” stated Hannah. “I wish I’d brought my notebook with me,” she added. Despite not having a page to write it on, Hannah envisioned a report in her mind about the rain, and how it had been pouring ever since the day began.
While Hannah’s thoughts were pleasant, Rita’s were not. She sat there questioning the mission. Most likely due to the fact she didn’t want to spend hours walking around a forest in the rain. “I know the guy at the Trooth Booth said that the last Maioura Blade is in Kitayi Forest,” she stated, “but he said that the exact location of it is unknown. What if it’s not even in Kitayi Forest?” Just then a smug look spread over Edwards face. “That’s because it’s not,” he explained. Rita looked at him. “I went to the Trooth Booth yesterday and the guy said he made a mistake last time,” he announced. “The green Maioura Blade is not in Kitayi Forest, it’s on an island far away from Fluvaria.” “Wait, really?” asked Rita, with panic in her voice. “Nah, I’m just kidding,” admitted Edward. “Good. You made me scared for a second,” replied Rita. “That’s just my job as the eldest sibling,” explained Edward. After hearing that comment, Rita rolled her eyes. “I’m sure the Maioura Blade is in Kitayi Forest,” explained Bobby. “The blue Maioura Blade was in Halmarn Museum, so I don’t see how this could be different.” “Thanks,” replied Rita, after that note of reassurance.
The first hour of the train ride had passed. Things were running smoothly. Fifteen minutes later, Bobby noticed something odd. Elsa was untying her hair in public. Something she would not normally do. “What are you doing?” asked Bobby, as Elsa removed the last hair tie from her ginger hair. “Untying my hair,” she answered. “Yeah, but why?” asked Bobby. “So I can tie it back up again,” answered Elsa. Bobby looked at her in confusion. He didn’t understand the point of undoing your hair just to tie it back up. “I’m bored,” explained Elsa. “This was the only thing I could think of to do.” She threaded a section of her hair through a hair tie. Bobby spoke up again. “Don’t you need a mirror for this?” he asked. “I’ve tied my hair in twin braids many times,” explained Elsa. “It’s gotten to the point where I can do it without concentrating.”
As Elsa tied her hair, Bobby looked out of the window. Just by looking at the scenery, he knew he was a great distance away from Fluvaria. Thirty minutes later, the Braw Agents heard a delightful sound. “Next stop, Derian,” announced the voice coming from above. At last, they wouldn’t have to be on the train for much longer. But that was nothing compared to their relief at what they heard from that same voice fifteen minutes later. “We have now arrived at Derian. If you wish to stop here, please get off the train now.” Just then, the doors opened. Several people entered the train, but the Braw Agents did the opposite. Once they were all on the station platform, everyone looked just as they had before getting on the train. Narvy was wearing his jacket again, and Elsa’s twin braids had been restored.
None of the Braw Agents watched the train leave, but as the sound of the train’s engine faded into the distance the Braw Agents noticed something. “Wait a minute, I think the rain has stopped,” claimed Bobby. The sky was still grey, and the ground was still soaked, but no droplets of rain were falling from the sky. “How did I not notice that?” asked Hannah, mostly to herself. “Probably because we were on the train and the scenery was moving past us quickly,” answered Narvy. “That makes sense,” replied Hannah. “Alright, we’ve made it to Derian, let’s go to Kitayi Forest,” announced Bobby.
Without any further setbacks, the Braw Agents left the train station, and ventured into the centre of Derian. Maybe it was just because of the weather, but Derian looked nowhere near as lively and grand as Fluvaria. It was also a lot smaller because it wasn’t truly a city, it was a town. Granted the place looked nowhere near as grim as the low-rate weapon shop in Fluvaria, but Derian was still quite lacking in character and appeal.
“How are we going to get from here to Kitayi Forest?” asked Elsa. She looked at her surroundings and couldn’t think of a possible way to get there from their present location. At that moment, Edward had an idea. “You know how roads can go through the countryside,” he explained, “I was thinking we could follow a road and make it to Kitayi Forest that way.” The other Braw Agents agreed with Edward’s idea however they noticed a few problems with it. “What road do we take?” asked Rita. “Derian’s a small town, we should be able to find a road that leads out of the town and into the country,” answered Edward. They all agreed with Edwards idea, although Rita probably wouldn’t have if it was still raining.
The Braw Agents ventured around Derian in order to find a road that led to the countryside. They walked through various streets only to get themselves lost. However, not everything went badly. They came across a craft shop and noticed something behind the building. It was a road, extending into the green fields on the other side. “Could this be our passage?” asked Bobby. “Maybe,” replied Hannah, with optimism. “Looks promising,” commented Narvy. “We should try it.” Bobby looked further down the road. His optimism was not destroyed, but he noticed the lack of trees within his vision. “Kitayi Forest seems to be far away,” he explained. “Maybe we could hire some taxis to take us there.” “I don’t think any taxi driver would be willing to drop us off in the middle of a forest,” replied Narvy. “Besides, we already spent our money on those train tickets.” "Fair enough,” replied Bobby.
The Braw Agents left Derian and followed the rural road. It only took ten minutes of walking for them to look back and not see Derian. Within those ten minutes they saw very few trees, it was mainly just concrete and grass in front of them. To their great surprise, very few cars passed on the road while the Braw Agents were walking along it. But cars were not a great concern, since they were walking on the wet grass, due to the lack of a proper footpath.
Fifteen minutes later, the Braw Agents felt as if they had been steadily walking uphill. But that was not what they cared about. Rather, it was the fact that more trees had been popping up in front of them. They were partway up the hill when they looked down and saw something that could be their destination. It was a luscious, green forest. From where the Braw Agents were standing, it looked like a field of leaves, but those leaves were not magically hovering in the air, they were being held by massive tree trunks.
“I think we’ve made it,” announced Bobby in victory. The other Braw Agents were glad to have made it to Kitayi Forest. But they noticed a small problem. “How are we going to get down there?” asked Hannah. This question made Bobby notice the steep, rocky terrain in front of him. There was no way they could safely go down that way. “How about we go back down this road and find a safe passage?” suggested Bobby. “Sounds good,” replied Hannah.
The Braw Agents made their way back down the hill. They didn’t feel the need to go all the way back to the fields, they just needed to find a spot where they could safely travel from the road to the forest. Fortunately, they found one. Two-thirds of the way from their previous spot to the low ground, Bobby noticed a passage. It was a slope that was quite rocky, but still level enough to safely cross. After pointing it out to his friends, everyone agreed it was the safest way down. Without any hesitation, the Braw Agents went down the slope and entered Kitayi Forest.
