Kyros stood at the forefront of the elven army, his golden aura shining brightly as he gazed out at the approaching horde of monsters. Eira and Seraphina stood by his side, weapons at the ready.
"So, what's the plan?" Kyros asked.
"We hold our ground and protect the kingdom," Eira replied firmly. "We can't let them breach our defenses."
"Easy for you to say,", he muttered. "You're an elf with 700 years of experience. I'm just a human with a fancy skill."
"Your skill is what gives us hope," Seraphina said, her voice steady. "We need you, Kyros."
Kyros sighed sarcastically, "Great... No pressure."
(We are so-not making it out of this alive.)
The enemy army surged forward, a tide of dark and twisted creatures. Kyros drew his dual swords, their light matching his aura.
"Let's do this," he said.
The battle had begun.

Kyros charged forward, leading the elven army his dual swords flashing as they sliced through the enemy. Despite his skill, the blades began to crack. Just as he defeated a giant troll, a dark knight, clad in obsidian armor appeared, thrusting its lance at him. He blocked with his swords but they shattered.
"Damn it!" he spat.
The dark knight sneered, raising his sword for the finishing blow. But Kyros grinned defiantly.
"Kyros Brightblade!" he declared, his voice echoing across the battlefield.
The golden aura of the Chosen One skill blazed, blinding the dark knight and sending him stumbling. Kyros kicked the knight in the chest, sending him crashing to the ground.
"Kyros Brightblade!", he shouted, dodging another attack and triggering the skill again.
(It's kinda cringe how I have to keep shouting my own name to activate this skill.)
[Passive Skill: Chosen One activated. Aura increased by 1000 points.]
The aura flared, sending enemies flying and giving Kyros time to catch his breath. He glanced around, looking for a weapon but was unsuccessful.
"Well, this is just great," he muttered.
He remembered the A-rank item in his inventory and opened it. It was a glowing blue sword with silver edges.
"Time to try you out," Kyros said, charging back into battle.
The sword sliced through monsters with ease. Meanwhile, Seraphina and Eira were holding their own. Seraphina's massive battle axe cleaved through dark creatures, while Eira's arrows tookdown numbers with her impeccable precision.
(Maybe the monsters are just bad at dodging, she missed all her shots at the library.)

The enemy army began to falter, their numbers dwindling. But then, a dark presence emerged from the shadows. A towering monstrosity, its body a twisted mass of dark flesh and razor-sharp spines.
"Behold, the Devourer of Light," the dark figure's voice boomed. "The greatest creation of my lord, forged from darkness itself."
The Devourer charged, its presence drawing the light out of the air. Kyros felt his vision dim, his strength depleting.
"Kyros Brightblade!" he shouted, triggering his Chosen One skill in desperation.
The golden aura blazed, but the Devourer laughed, its voice like thunder. "Your little trick won't work on me, Chosen One.
"We need a new plan!" Seraphina shouted, her battle axe barely scratching the Devourer. "Let the Elven fight the smaller threats.
"Keep its attention!" Eira called. "I'll try and find a weakness!"
[Quest: Defend the Elf Kingdom from the Dark Lord's army. Progress: 40%]
Kyros raised his sword to block the Devourer's attack. In a flash of insight, he thought, "Wait, I'm the Chosen One. I'm supposed to be good at this."
[Passive Skill: Decision Making activated]
Time seemed to pause. "If only I had a skill to adapt to my enemy," Kyros thought.
As if on cue, a ring sounded in his mind.
[Passive Skill Awakened: Adaptability - Weapons adapt to deal 10% more damage. Haste increased by 10%.]
[Passive Skill Awakened: Blade Echo- Sword attacks have a 20% chance to resonate with enemy attacks. After a successful hit, the enemy will be stunned for 1 second.]
Kyros blinked. "Oh, cool. That's a thing now."
He swung his sword at the Devourer, the blade now able to cut through. The attack landed with a burst of light, causing the Devourer to stumble back, surprised.
"Kyros, what just happened?" Seraphina asked, confused.
Kyros shrugged. "No idea, but I think I just leveled up or something."
Eira raised an eyebrow. "Well, whatever it was, keep doing it. We need to do everything we can to win."

The Devourer stumbled back, its eyes wide. But Kyros knew better than to think it was defeated. Its body began to twist, revealing more groteque limbs and a void in it's chest that began to pull everything toward it.
"Seriously? A second phase?" Kyros muttered. "Can't he just pick a form and stick with it?"
Eira shot him a look. "You're complaining about the boss's design in the middle of a fight?"
Kyros shrugged. "Hey, it's a valid concern. Who does this guy think he is, Godrick the Grafted?"
[Notice: You're gonna get us sued with all these references.]
She facepalmed. "Kyros, focus."
"Fine, fine." He dodged a tendril. "Let's get this over with."
[Quest: Defend the Elf Kingdom from the Dark Lord's army. Progress: 50%]
As he dodged another tendril, Kyros slashed the Devourer, muttering, "I swear, Devourer here is like the Dark Lord's participation trophy. 'Good job showing up, here's an extra phase!'"
Eira sighed, but Seraphina chuckled, cutting off a tendril.

Kyros felt overwhelmed. "Can't we just have a simple fight? The kind where the bad guy just stands there and takes damage?"
Eira shot him a look. "You know that's not how it works, Kyros."
He sighed. "I know. Can't we have a nice, quiet boss fight without the drama?"
Seraphina chuckled. "You're starting to sound like a grumpy old man."
Kyros shrugged. "Hey, someone's got to keep things in perspective around here."

Just as Kyros started to get the hang of the Devourer's second phase, it transformed again.
"Seriously?!" Kyros exclaimed. "How many forms does this guy have?!"
Eira rolled her eyes. "You'd think he'd run out of ideas."
The Devourer's new form was a giant, swirling vortex of darkness.
"Well, this is just great," Kyros said, dodging a tendril. "Because what we really needed was a boss fight that's also a tornado."
Seraphina laughed. "At least it's not boring."
Kyros glanced at her. "You're enjoying this, aren't you?"
Seraphina grinned. "Maybe a little."
[Quest: Defend the Elf Kingdom from the Dark Lord's army. Progress: 65%]
Kyros then ran towards the Devourer, dodging all its tendrils.
"What are you doing?!" Eira shouted, concerned.
[System: Passive Skill: Chosen One upgraded to level 5]
Kyros jumped into the void, sinking into the abyss. At the top of his lungs, he shouted, "Kyros Brightblade!" The golden aura outshone the darkness, consuming the devourer.
"Kyros... Kyros... Kyros!"
He woke up to Seraphina and Eira calling his name.
"D-did we win?" he asked, vision blurring.
"Yeah, thanks to you," Eira smiled.
[Quest Complete: Rewards sent to your inventory]
The Elven army cheered, lifting Kyros into the air.
"Kyros! Kyros! Kyros!" they chanted, lifting him up.
