Irene swung her whip upward, slicing into the right shoulder of a prisoner, causing him to scream out in pain. She bolted forward and kicked him in his left leg, bringing the man to his knees.
A giggle left her lips when the man took a swing at her, only to miss. She grabbed onto his wrist with a devilish grin.
Snap!
The man's howls of pain echoed through the air before he was silenced when Brett kicked him in the stomach.
"This place is a madhouse, and as much as I'm enjoying playing with my toys, I'm getting a bit tired," Brett complained as he raked his fingers through his hair.
"Of course you are. We faced about forty prisoners so far in this room, and they don't stop pouring in. Who would have thought a trip to the Warden would be so complicated," Irene mentioned with a frown.
Brett was about to take a step forward before he flinched. A painful headache slammed into him, causing him to place his palm against his forehead.
"You're worrying me," Irene said with concern, lacing her voice. She reached forward to gently caress his cheek and rub her thumb against his skin.
Brett leaned forward and placed a tender kiss against her wrist, "It doesn't hurt too much; I'll be fine, don't worry," he said with a sweet smile to erase her concerns.
"You damn prisoner guards!" a man screamed as he charged toward Brett with something sharp. The man's body flew backward when Brett slammed his fist into the man's face without any hesitation.
"Did you just fucking interrupt our moment?" Brett growled with a murderous look in his eyes. He swiftly stepped back when another man attempted to punch him.
Brett gripped the man's arm, causing him to scream out when electricity shot up his arm. A look of surprise appeared in Brett's eyes when the man's head was removed from his body, sending it tumbling to the ground.
"Irene, you know the Warden won't be happy if we kill every single prisoner we come across," Brett explained as he put his shoe into a prisoner's back to prevent them from escaping. "But that doesn't mean we can't cause any damage to them." he declared with a devilish smile.
Brett reached down and sent electricity through the man's body. He ignored the man's cries of pain that eventually died down when he passed out.
"That shouldn't be too hard to accomplish," Irene said with a grin. She swung her arm forward, gracefully sending her whip flying through the air. It sliced off the arm of a man who was trying to land a hit on her precious boyfriend. "I think that was the last one," she claimed.
"True, which is kind of disappointing. I was hoping to test out my toys a bit longer, but oh well," Brett said as he headed down the hallway ahead, not caring if he stepped on top of any prisoners on the ground.
Irene followed after him. She lovingly held onto his arm as she rested her head against his shoulder. She glanced up at the door at the end of the hall leading to the main office.
Click!
The door popped open when Brett pushed it in. He held Irene close and didn't bother to separate from her when they went inside.
Brett looked over to the man with shoulder-length obsidian hair, who he couldn't mistake for anyone else but the Warden. His eyes immediately locked with the Warden's golden eyes.
"Good evening, sir," Brett said as he placed his hand over his heart and did a slight bow, earning a pleased smile from the Warden.
"Good evening to you as well, Edmond," Brett mentioned as his eyes flickered over to the man leaning against the Warden's desk. Edmond possessed short, spiky, dark lilac hair and owned amber eyes that held the power bore into one's soul.
Edmond was one of the Warden's right-hand prison guards, and so were Irene and Brett.
"It's nice seeing you both today. But, you both seem like you've had quite the rough day," the Warden stated. He leaned against his fist, eager to hear why that was.
Brett opened his mouth but paused when the floor harshly vibrated. Once the shaking died down, he spoke up. "I'm sure you're awake, sir, of all the ongoing earthquakes affecting the building right now?" he asked.
"Oh, I am. I also heard the alarm blaring in my eardrums. Care to explain?" the Warden remarked as he lifted his chin from his hand. He drummed his fingers against his desk, clearly upset to have been disturbed by all the ruckus.
"Null managed to break out with the assistance of Aster; then they managed to release all the prisoners in every cell. We subdued all the prisoners we came across along the way, but I hate to admit we lost some along the way," Brett explained with a smirk; his tone proved he wasn't the least concerned about dropping the number of prisoners they had.
The Warden slammed his fist down on the desk, causing it to rattle. Irritation painted itself on his features when the first name flew out of Brett's mouth.
"So, those two are planning on escaping the prison?" Edmond spoke up as he looked over at them.
"Based on the direction they were going, I would say it probably won't be too much longer before they manage to make it to the landing dock where the spacecrafts are parked," Irene chimed in with a confident look in her eyes.
"Interesting," Edmond remarked. He looked over from them and stared up at the ceiling, deep in thought.
"Would you like us to pursue them further?" Brett asked. But he was hoping the Warden wouldn't have them do that. He would rather head home with Irene. He was about to open his mouth before he stopped when the Warden raised his hand.
"Not at all. I think you both have done very well for today. I'm quite pleased with your work," the Warden praised, catching Brett and Irene by surprise.
"Are you certain, sir?" Irene asked in disbelief. She was certain the Warden would be furious when he found out they failed to catch two prisoners, who turned his sweet paradise upside down.
The Warden nodded his head, his lips curving into a gentle smile. "I'm certain. Also, I believe you two have done well. You both can head out early today," he added.
Irene's eyes beamed with joy. "We truly appreciate it, sir," she said happily. Without giving Brett a chance to respond, she dragged him out of the office before the Warden changed his mind.

"Are you going to enact your plan, sir? Your brother is visiting today, and based on my calculations, it would be the perfect opportunity that you probably won't get again," Edmond said as he looked over his shoulder at the Warden.
"See? This is why I like you so much, Edmond; you tell me everything I want to hear," the Warden claimed. A sinister grin crawled across his face at the thought that after all this time, he would eventually launch his plan.
"But, I have a question for you. Is it possible for you to make it to the boarding dock before the prisoners are able to steal a spacecraft?" the Warden asked. He reached out to grab a pen and started to add his signature on the paper in front of him.
"Depends, sir. Can I eliminate any prisoner who gets in my way? It would save me a lot of time," Edmond brought up. He leaned over and placed another important document that required the Warden's signature onto his desk.
"You have my full permission," the Warden said with a smile. He reached into his jacket pocket and placed a jet-black gun in front of Edmond.
Edmond didn't comment and snatched the gun, looking down at it. He glanced back up at the Warden, knowing he needed to follow specific instructions on what to do next.
A murderous look danced around in the Warden's eyes. "Use that gun to eliminate my brother, and under no circumstances must he live. Ensure no one can tie me to his murder. I'm not concerned because I know you won't disappoint me," he brought up with a crazed smile.
"You praise me too much, sir. But don't worry, your brother won't know what hit him," Edmond replied with a grin. With a final bow of respect, he headed out of the office.
Edmond glanced over at all the bodies and blood staining the floor. Seems like Irene and Brett had fun. I'll buy them something later to thank them for making my job all the easier today, he thought, carefully working around each body to avoid getting blood on his shoes.
Edmond had a happy bounce to his steps as he imagined how things would play out. I wonder how happy the Warden will be when he sees how excellent of a job I'll end up doing, he thought before he frowned. But it's unfortunate that I'll have to deal with the prisoners in my way first.
