Earlier in the Society's auditorium, Shawn looked at his clipboard and sighed.
“I don't know how Jeff convinced me to do charity work but I guess let's just get this over with.” He said to himself.
He called out several heroes on his list: Digi-Girl, Glowstick, Knit Knight, and Tala.
The four of them came out from the crowd and stood before him awaiting their instructions.
“Alright guys, as Team Blitz we've been assigned to go on the offensive and take on the sorcerers and other magic users that are causing some problems in the city. The first place is near Basil Bridge and Team Aegis has already done their part in rescuing civilians. Let's move out.” Shawn said.
As they walked outside, Digi concentrated and created pixelated jetpacks for everyone to fly over to the bridge.
“Alright girls, let's kick some butt.” Knit Knight said.
They nodded and flew off and reached the bridge in no time. They hovered above it and Glowstick pointed towards a person on the ground who was waving a staff that was able to dispense acid that was burning sections of the bridge. Knit Knight and Glowstick landed while Digi and Tala remained in the air.
“Ooh. The girls are gonna stop me. I'm so scared. Ha, not!” The sorcerer jabbed.
“I think you should learn to bite your tongue!” Knit Knight said as she unsheathed her scissor blades and swung towards the sorcerer.
He dodged and laughed before saying “Too slow!”
Glowstick’s hand began to glow as she shot an energy beam at him that struck his shoulder.
“Hm. So you can be hurt after all.” Glowstick said.
“Easy, Glowstick. We're not trying to kill him.” Said Knit Knight.
“Watch out!” Yelled Digi as she created a wall in front of them as her jetpack fizzled into nothing and she started to fall to the ground.
Tala outstretched her hand and stopped her before she hit the ground.
“How did you do that?” Digi asked.
“Magic, duh.” Tala said.
“Oh, right.” Said Digi.
The sorcerer then shot acid at Tala but she created a magical barrier that repelled it. Tala’s breath grew heavy and she landed on the ground to catch her breath from using a lot of energy for her magic.
“Digi I've got an idea.” Knit Knight said.
They quickly mentioned the plan to each other and then Knit Knight dashed towards the sorcerer.
“You're trying that again? What makes you certain it'll work this time?” The sorcerer said.
“I know it won't.” Said Knit Knight as she got close to him.
He dodged out of the way and this time she tripped him as he lost his grip on the staff. Tala quickly fired a magical blast at the staff which broke it into pieces and Glowstick emitted a beam of energy at his feet to force him to back up into a cage that Digi made.
As he tumbled in, Digi closed the cage and the sorcerer looked around in shock.
“Well, that was easy.” Glowstick said.
“Especially when you know exactly what your opponent is going to do.” Said Knit Knight as she approached the cage.
“What? So you knew I would dodge your attack again?” He said.
“Of course. People are creatures of habit so it was predictable that you wouldn't change your tactic.” Knit Knight said.
Over their earpieces, Shawn said “Good work. Head over to the intersection of Mint Avenue and Rosemary Road. Team Aegis just finished up helping the civilians there but there’s still a magical threat nearby that may cause further damage.”
“You heard the man. Let’s move.” Knit Knight said.
Digi grabbed Tala and they flew over to the intersection while Glowstick propelled herself and Knit Knight there with an energy beam. Upon landing, they scoped out the area for any suspicious individuals that might’ve been the cause of the destruction.
“Look over there!” Glowstick said.
“I see ‘em.” Tala said.
Using what little magic she had left, she cast a spell to hold the perpetrator in place as Knit Knight unsheathed her weapons and approached.
As she got closer, she saw that it was a young man who looked very scared as he turned to look at her.
“Please, help me.” He said before he began to twitch and was consumed with darkness.
As if being in a cocoon of sorts, he was transformed into a beast with long hair down its head, a pair of wings, and four muscular legs each with razor-sharp claws. Tala grew too exhausted and the spell broke freeing the beast
“Tala!” Glowstick said as she went over to her to check on her.
“I…I’m fine. Just..tired.” Tala said in between breaths.
Knit Knight and Digi stood in front of them and readied themselves to fight the beast.
“Ready?” Knit Knight asked.
“Ready.” Digi said.
Digi created digital explosives as she ran around the beast and threw them at it to act as a distraction. Knit Knight dashed towards the beast and swung her blades at it while it was watching Digi but it caught them in its claws and turned its head back toward her as it grew angry. It flexed its claw which caused her blades to snap and the beast slammed its foot into the ground before giving out a roar in her face. Digi, upon seeing that, created a pixelated axe and lodged it into the beast’s back and it let out a cry of pain. Then Knit Knight took the opportunity and swept its legs out from under it before catching digital swords from Digi and plunging them into the beast’s head. As the beast fell limp, they both took a deep breath and watched the beast fade away and the young man remained in its place. He groaned and held his head while sitting on the ground.
“Are you Ok?” Knit Knight asked.
“I think so. Thanks for saving me there.” He said.
“It was nothing.” Digi said as she gave him a thumbs up.
It looks like you’ve all handled the pressing issues so come on back to the Hero Society to regroup and wait for further instructions.” Shawn said over their earpieces.
They all returned to the Society and as they walked inside, Team Aegis was there waiting as well.
“Hey guys.” Glowstick said.
“Hey! How’d it go?” Kim asked.
“We kicked some butt, obviously.” Digi said.
“Ugh. That could’ve been me.” Kyle mumbled.
“Alright, no need to pout.” Said Knit Knight.
After getting word that Team Blitz completed their portion of the mission, Lauren relayed the information to Theo.
“Snarf-Kai’s team is ready when needed, sir.” Lauren said.
“Thanks. Everything is going according to plan.” Theo said.
“So tell me what we are up against.” Rhys asked.
Theo explained the situation that had been unfolding up to this point and Rhys rubbed his mask in thought.
“I see. We will have to wait until Team Covert finishes their mission before we can act then.” Said Rhys.
“Tell Team Doyen to keep their ears open just in case any more reports come in or any threats come up.” Theo said.
“Understood.” Lauren said.
Earlier, In another area of the Hero Society, Team Doyen began to get busy at work manning the communications side of things.
“Alright, team I know we can do this.” Jeff said as he sipped his tea.
“Mr. Jeff, why aren’t you helping us?” Lavanite asked.
“It’s best if you don’t question his methods. He was the last director of the Society after all.” Gen said.
“Fine. But tell me this, why are the only two non-verbal people assigned to help us with communications?” Lavanite asked.
“Um, that’s a good question.” Said Gen.
Briocheben and Mallowmark looked at each other and shrugged as they typed away on their computers.
“I’m getting word that there’s trouble at Basil Bridge. We need to inform Team Aegis and Blitz and then send out an alert to inform people to stay away from the bridge.
“Understood. I will work on the alert to inform the people.” Said a text-to-speech voice as Ben gave him a thumbs up.
Gen put on a headset and patched into Snowglobe Gorilla and Snarf-Kai and said “Boys, we’ve got word that Basil Bridge is in trouble. Several people are in trouble and there’s a possibility of a sorcerer there. Good luck you guys.”
“How’s the alert coming along?” Jeff asked.
Ben’s text-to-speech said “I have sent out the alert saying ‘Attention citizens of Salty City. An issue has arisen on Basil Bridge. Please refrain from going near there as it has become a dangerous area until the heroes can take care of the situation. Thank you for your cooperation.’”
Then, Mark turned around and his text-to-speech came to life and said “I’ve contacted authorities who are rerouting traffic and blocked the bridge so no one else can go onto it.”
Not too long after that, Lavanite received a call about an incident at the intersection of Mint Avenue and Rosemary Road.
“Gentlemen, have your teams head over to the location that I’ve sent you. There’s been some crashed vehicles and there might be some sort of magical mischief involved so be careful as your teams make their way there.” Said Lavanite as he informed Snowglobe Gorilla and Snarf-Kai.
Ben and Mark already got to work and informed Jeff that their part was taken care of before Gen got word from Tekashi.
“Hey, what’s your status?” Asked Gen.
“We are almost there. Are we still off the radar?” Said Tekashi.
Yep. All good. Keep me posted if anything changes.” Gen said.
Gen turned to Jeff and told him that Tekashi and his team were closing in on their destination.
“Sir, Team Doyen has made contact with Team Covert. It’s almost time.” Lauren said to Theo.
“Everything hinges on this. Let’s hope these heroes have what it takes.” Rhys said.
“C’mon Brightworlder. I believe in you.” Theo said under his breath.
