Aster's eyes went wide as a harsh rumble radiated through the walls above and below. The building screeched as if it had been struck by a ruthless earthquake.
A shaky breath escaped Aster's throat as he tried to regain his composure. Once the shaking died down, he opened his mouth and screamed, "What the fuck was that!"
Null shrugged his shoulders. His face contorted with boredom when he heard Aster's whining. "You're worrying over damn nothing. All it means is that the party is getting started," he said with a smug grin.
Aster ground his teeth together. He shook his head the more he thought about Null's chaotic plan. "Did you consider the other prisoners might want to kill us besides the prison guards?!" he snapped.
A chuckle left Null's lips as he rolled his eyes. "And? I highly doubt you had a better plan, and if you did, it probably would've gotten us killed by now," he mocked.
Aster clenched his hands in frustration. "Like your damn plan is great. You can't even guarantee we'll make it out of here alive!" he shot back.
"Man, you sure do love wasting precious time, don't you? If it wasn't for me, you probably would still be on the floor my cell was on," Null pointed out, looking rather unimpressed by Aster's sheer stupidity.
Aster felt the corner of his mouth twitch in irritation. He crossed his arms over his chest as he glared at Null. "Alright, genius, what next?"
Madness coursed through Null's eyes. "We use the prisoners as a distraction to escape. Throughout the chaos, they'll barely notice us," he explained as he walked over to the door to exit.
I'm so going to get massacred. I just know it, Aster thought with a grimace. He forced his feet to move toward Null despite his senses telling him there had to be a better way than the plan Null had proposed.
I shouldn't have hexed myself by saying more danger was better; Aster thought as he leaned his side against the wall. He inhaled deeply to calm down his rapid heartbeat. Whatever was lurking ahead, he would prepare himself to face it head-on however much he could.
"Good to see you've finally cleared your mind. Remember, all you have to do is follow my lead," Null stated and waited until Aster gave him a nod to ensure he was on the same page.
"Alright, then. Let's get out of this dump," Null declared with a grin. He pulled open the door and rushed out of the room.
Aster ran after Null down the long hallway. He swallowed hard when he felt more vibrations below his feet. His breath hitched when Null moved around a corner, followed by the echo of a gunshot that whizzed through the air.
Aster barely had enough time to register the sound as his focus went to another prison guard who popped out of a room and aimed their gun at him.
Aster hurled himself forward as adrenaline coursed through his veins, completely dominating his senses.
Bang!
Aster clenched his jaw when the gun hissed as it released a bullet in his direction. It flew past his ear, grazing it slightly before sinking into the wall behind him.
"Stand down!" the guard barked while his finger pressed against the trigger, ready to shoot again.
"Like hell, I will!" Aster shouted as he lunged forward without a second thought. Time seemed to slow down as he closed the distance between them.
Aster ducked down in time to avoid the second bullet. He moved upward, his fist colliding with the man's jaw, causing him to stumble back. Without waiting for the prison guard to recover, Aster swung his leg into the man's stomach, snatching the air from his lungs.
The gun clattered to the ground as the man fell, holding his stomach in pain. Aster kicked the gun across the hallway. Without hesitation, he shot the man's left leg with the gun Null gave to him earlier, causing the man to scream out in pain.
"Sorry, no hard feelings. But I can't have you getting back up and getting in our way," Aster stated. He cocked his head to the side to see how Null was doing, only to be surprised to see the prison guard he dealt with was unconscious.
"Took you damn long enough," Null teased. He reached down and yanked off the badge the prison guard was wearing. "Let's get a move on," he said as he continued running.
"Do I even want to know what you're going to do with that?" Aster asked, nearly scared to find out how that would aid Null's plan.
A big grin spread across Null's face. "Oh, this?" he said as he held up the badge. "I'll hijack the security system up ahead by changing the numbers on this specific badge in order to open the door.
Aster's mouth hung open as he sucked in a shaky breath. He looked up and down at the large, rectangular metal door in front of them, fearing what was behind it.
"I would tell you to relax. But, you're gonna need that adrenaline once we enter this room, and let me tell you, it's going to be a shit show. So, be ready once I type in the code," Null warned as he started to carefully type in a code.
Aster held his breath when his eyes met the chaotic mess that was past the door.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Bullets were flying from every corner of the room. Prison guards and prisoners were at each other's throats, followed by battle cries dancing around in the air like the cheering in a damn parade.
Aster did his best to follow where Null was going. However, his vision was blurry from the amount of fists and bullets whizzing past him. He rolled underneath a prison guard and prisoner who was throwing punches at one another.
A small whine escaped Aster's throat when a bullet licked his right shoulder. He could feel the warmth of his blood crawling along his skin. But he ignored it and pushed forward.
Aster rushed forward and jumped on top of a table. He used his right leg to propel himself across a cluster of people who were fighting each other. He carefully rolled once he landed on the ground to secure his landing.
Aster glanced up and saw Null looking over his shoulder and back at him while he was running. I can't fall behind; I have to keep moving, he thought as he aimed the gun he held in his hand. Pulling the trigger, shooting two people in the legs to open a path for himself.
Aster took in a relieved breath when Null took a turn down a hallway. He was happy to be away from the havoc that had unfolded on that floor.
Squeak!
Aster's shoes skitted across the floor. He nearly tumbled forward when a side door suddenly flew open from behind him.
Tears welled up in Aster's eyes when a searing pain shot up his leg when something struck him, nearly causing him to fall over. He immediately looked over his shoulder to see what hit him, only for his heart to drop.
"You fucking assholes have caused quite a bit of trouble!" a man barked with a sadistic grin on his face.
"I told you we could find them here, Brett," the woman to his right mentioned with a lopsided smile as she leaned over and pressed a kiss against his cheek.
"Say, Irene. Try to save me some pieces of them to try out more of my new toys," Brett claimed as he held up both of his metallic gloves. Blue electricity raced around his fingers, itching to kill someone already.
A loud giggle escaped Irene as she tilted her head to the right when a bullet whizzed past her. "I think you missed; wanna try again? But, then again, you might not have any hands to accomplish that," she claimed. She tightened her grip on the red whip in her right hand.
You have to be fucking kidding me! They're the same damn psychopaths from Null's floor; Aster thought as panic consumed his senses.
Aster attempted to jump to the right to avoid her whip when she swung it forward, only for him to yelp when he collapsed to the ground when he moved wrong on his right leg, causing pain to rattle him to his core.
Aster's expression twisted up in fear when Brett lunged forward, grabbing onto his left leg, not giving him a chance to recover.
"Ahhhh!" Aster screamed out in pain when electricity clawed through his muscles
Brett only dove backward and released his hold on Aster when Null took a shot at him. "Aww, this is just so sweet. Are you protecting your little friend here? If you ask me, you have a higher chance of getting away if you just leave him here to play with us," he suggested with a twisted grin.
"So, what will it be?" Brett asked as he cracked his knuckles.
