Welcome back! Although the story is just getting started (and we haven't seen any fantasy/magic yet), I want to be clear that I'm taking a lot of liberties with history... for example, a Star of David necklace would be foreign and strange to these people. But it's such a great visual signifier, I felt I had to have Rivke wear one.
Oh, a Boyar, by the way, is a regional governor of sorts. He's the guy who calls the shots for the Czar in this outpost of the Russian empire. Early drafts of the script had him as a complete monster, not far off from a cruel Disney villain, like the stepmother in Cinderella. But I think I landed on a much more interesting take on the character...
And, speaking of literary technique... all the "Anna Karenina" stuff about Konstantin? That's a little bit of foreshadowing :) Anyway, thank you, as always, for reading our little adventure!
