"This feels so much better than that musty old cell," Null blurted out. He stretched both of his arms out and cracked his neck from side to side.
"You're out, Crazy. Now, keep your end of the deal," Aster announced as he crossed his arms. He knew he was probably going to regret letting this psychopath out. But having an option to lean on to aid in his escape was kind of nice, even if it was dangerous.
A soft chuckle escaped Null's throat. "No, wonder why you weren't able to get out sooner. You have a shitty attitude. It's hard to believe someone fell for your sweet-talking before you ask me how I know. I know you're not smart enough to get out on your own," Null mocked as he walked toward the door leading out of the room.
"Like you know a damn thing!" Aster grumbled as he chewed the inside of his cheek. His eyes soon widened when Null opened the door and bolted out of the room without a care in the world. This guy is insane. He has to have a death wish, Aster thought.
Aster cautiously followed after him. Concern flooded his system when he heard multiple footsteps not too far from them. A yelp escaped his lips when someone yanked him to the left.
"Not that way, idiot!" Null barked. Without releasing Aster's arm, he dragged him to a nearby elevator and practically threw him inside.
"I could've walked myself, and who the hell runs in a room full of danger around every corner," Aster pointed out. He wondered how he was even still alive at this point, and Null wasn't making it any better.
Aster opened his mouth to say more but paused when he saw Null punch the buttons repeatedly until sparks were flying. The color drained from his face when the elevator screamed as if it was in pain.
Null's lips curved into a crazed smile when the numbers on the screen faded out into odd symbols, which were clear signs the elevator was malfunctioning.
"You're fucking insane! Are you trying to kill us? I knew letting you out wasn't the best idea I could think of," Aster roared. He reached out to grab onto Null's right arm to prevent him from trying to break this metal trash can more than it already was.
"I'll take that as a compliment," Null said with an amused smile while working out of Aster's grip. This man couldn't help but find the panic welling up inside of Aster to be quite entertaining. "Besides, we're going exactly where we should down," he pointed out, causing Aster to raise a confused eyebrow at him.
Why the hell is the elevator going down? I majorly screwed up. This guy is going to kill me for sure, no doubt about it, Aster thought as panic ate his mind like a rabid animal. There was no logical reason as to why they would be heading down exactly where Aster came from.
"Relax already, would you? You're giving me anxiety," Null snapped. With careful precision, he tore off the cover for the buttons and started to yank out blue wires.
"Besides, if I wanted to kill you, you'd already be dead," Null stated with an ominous tone. Without bothering to turn around, he continued to snap wires in half and put others together, which resulted in a small blue spark of electricity.
"Like that makes me feel any damn better. Also, why are we heading in the direction I came from? It just doesn't make any sense," Aster raged with clenched fists.
Aster didn't like this one bit. If Null did turn out to be a traitor, Aster had only a limited amount of space to keep him safe from that crazed man inside the elevator before he was dead. This only meant thinking up a quick backup plan was out of the question.
"No one in their right mind would head to the next floor. There are even more prison guards to the point where not getting spotted would be impossible," Null pointed out as he joined two wires that caused arrows to appear on the screen instead of numbers, causing him to grin gleefully at his work.
"As to where we're heading. I'm planning on heading to the main control room. There, I'll input a special code to release all the prisoners, and that should buy us enough time to escape without too many problems," Null explained as he leaned against the wall behind him.
Aster's eyes went wide when red lights started flashing from the ceiling, followed by a high-pitched scream that he couldn't mistake for anything else but the prison alarm. I guess they found Finlay possibly, or maybe they realized Null was missing from his cell, he wondered before panic flooded his systems at a sudden realization.
Aster gripped onto both of Null's shoulders, shaking him slightly. "Won't the guards want to use the elevator that we're currently in?!" he screamed as tiny beads of sweat formed on his face from the adrenalin circulating through his system.
"They would if I didn't hijack the elevator. So, we shouldn't have to worry about any problems with anyone trying to use it besides us," Null explained with a crazed look in his eyes as a satisfied smile formed on his lips. He was a top hacker before he got locked up, so altering the controls of an elevator was nothing to him.
Aster let out a relieved sigh as he released his hold on Null. He briefly glanced up at the arrows appearing on the screen. He tapped his fingers against his arm in anticipation since he knew what would be happening next.
"So, then when the elevator stops is when the real trouble is going to start," Aster asked after he figured it out. He could already imagine the number of prison guards littering all the hallways and corners.
"Bingo, now you're learning. It looks like you're not so stupid after all," Null said with a grin as he watched Aster slightly glare at him.
Aster took a deep breath when he felt the piece of trash transportation harshly rattle before all its movements ceased. His heart beat faster as the doors slowly crawled into their corners, giving a sneak preview of the brightly lit hallway.
A big smirk spread across Null's face. "Don't think; otherwise, you'll end up dead," he declared before rushing out once the doors opened up enough to let him out.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Null ignored the bullets flying around him as a prison guard opened fire at him. He lunged forward before lowering his body to the ground when he was close enough. He kicked the right leg of the guard, forcing the man down to the ground. Without holding anything back, he knocked him unconscious with a couple of punches to the face.
Aster bit his tongue as he threw himself back when bullets ripped through the elevator, nearly tearing him to pieces. He quickly stumbled outside to see what was going on, only to find Null hovering over a guard with a sparkling silver gun in his hand.
"Took you long enough. Were you hoping to get shot?" Null sarcastically asked while admiring the beautiful weapon he had managed to get his hands on.
"Only because I don't have death on the list of things I want like you do," Aster sassily remarked back before he looked up when he heard another pair of footsteps not too far from them.
"Death will only be on your list because you hesitate too damn much," Null said. He carefully aimed the gun where he believed the prison guard was going to appear. Just before the guard could move around the corner, he pulled the trigger.
"Ahhhh!" the prison guard wailed out when the bullet dug into his right leg, forcing him to lean against the wall for support. His eyes soon widened when Null was already right in front of him.
Aster's mouth hung open when Null knocked out the other prison guard who appeared and stole his weapon. You know, I'm kind of glad he's on my side, he thought as he ran over to Null.
"Here!" Null shouted as he threw the other gun at Aster, who nearly dropped it. "The main control room is just up ahead, and don't hesitate to fire," he warned as he ran down the hall to the room he claimed had control over all the cells within the prison.
"Like I would make that mistake. I'm trying to get out of here, not locked up again," Aster pointed out as he quickly followed after Null.
Once Null kicked the door open, Aster could barely see what was going on after Null opened fire on who was in the room.
"Easy peasy," Null announced as he stepped over the fallen guards to a giant computer. "Now, the real fun begins," he admitted as he cracked his knuckles. It wasn't long before he started typing in a long code.
After Null typed in the last number, the computer screamed out, "All prisoners have been released."
