"Man, this sucks.", Kyros said with a frown.

(Ah, yes. Skills that make no sense... Plot armor? I wonder what that does.), he thought to himself.
[Notice: Please proceed to the adventurer's guild to sign up]
(This has got to be the worst day of my life.)
[Notice: I gave you a second chance at life. Be a little grateful.]
Geez sorry. (A life I didn't ask for.)
[Notice: I can read your thoughts!]
(Excuse you, but that's an invasion of privacy!)
[...]
A stranger passed by and saw a boy, who was a teenager, arguing with his own thoughts while scratching his head.
[Notice: That person will remember you as 'crazy' for as long as they live.]
(Shut the hell up!)
Kyros stood in the middle of the bustling town square, feeling like a character in a game he never wanted to play. He took a moment to look at himself at a mirror on the street. He had brown wavy hair and navy blue eyes. He was wearing brown gloves, black jeans, brown adventurer's boots and a blue cloak decorated with a gold pattern.
(Yeah I actually do feel like that.... and I guess the look isn't bad too. Also do you have to be so formal with the scenes?)
[Notice: Yes, now shh.]
He wandered through the cobblestone streets, passing by vendors shouting about their wares and knights in shining armor that looked like they walked straight out of a fantasy novel cover.
Kyros: (Well duh, this is a fantasy novel.)
[Notice: Shush!]
It was all so surreal, yet everyone else seemed to go about their day unfazed by the magic that literally crackled in the air.
[Notice: You are nearing the adventurer's guild.]
"Oh, what would I do without you, my ever-helpful narrator?", Kyros mumbled.
The building in front of him was grand, with banners depicting swords and shields fluttering in the wind. The emblem above the door—a hammer striking an anvil—was probably meant to be inspiring. To Kyros, it just looked like a reminder of the work he was about to be roped into.
He stepped inside, and the noise from the street faded into a hushed murmur. The guild was filled with adventurers, some looking over maps, others bragging about their latest conquests. Kyros approached the reception, where a stern-looking woman with glasses and a ledger twice the size of her head waited.
"Name?", she asked as she chewed some bubblegum.
"Kyros Brightblade. I'm here to, uh, sign up?", he said nervously.
She looked him up and down, her expression unchanging."
"Purpose?", she asked, now making her gum into a bubble and popping it.
[Notice: Saving the world from the dark lord.]
(I'm not saying that.)
[Got any better ideas?]
(Well, no but-)
"Ahem", coughed the receptionist.
Kyros sighed. "Saving the world from the dark lord, apparently."
Her eyebrow raised slightly.
"Ah, another 'chosen one'. You'll need to prove your worth. Here's your first quest: Clear out the goblins in the nearby forest."
She handed him a slip of paper that looked more like a grocery list than a heroic quest.
Kyros read the list. (Goblins, huh? Who do I look like? Goblin slayer?), he sighed. (Let's just get this over with.)
[Quest: Quest accepted.]
[Notice: Get a weapon from the blacksmith]
Kyros made his way to the blacksmith shop, the sound of hammers on anvils guiding him. As he pushed open the door, he was met with an unexpected silence. The shop was empty, tools laid out as if abandoned mid-stroke. He wandered between the workbenches, the air heavy with the scent of coal and metal.
"Hello? Anyone here?", he called out.
He waited a bit. No answer. Just as he turned to leave, a voice boomed from behind.
"HELLO!", eagerly greeted the girl behind him.
Startled, Kyros stumbled and fell to the ground with a thud.
[Notice: You have fallen... literally.]
(Thanks for the update.), he groaned.
Laughter echoed through the shop as Seraphina emerged from behind a suit of armor, her smile as bright as the forge fire.
"Didn't mean to scare you! I'm Seraphina Forgeheart.", she said cheerfully. She was a girl that looked the same age as him. She had tan skin that contrasted with her silky silver-white hair and orange eyes that were the same as the fire used to forge weapons.
Her father, the blacksmith, appeared from the back room, a pair of finely crafted swords in hand. Silver hair and tan skin, but dark brown eyes unlike his daughter.
"I see you've met my daughter. Here, these are for you—dual swords for the 'chosen one'. The receptionist advised me to give them to you.", he said with a bright smile.
"Thank you very much." Kyros nervously accepted, still feeling the pain on his bum.
Seraphina leaned in, her eyes alight with curiosity.
"Are you going on a quest? Can I go with you!? I can handle myself in a fight, you know. Trust me. You won't regret it. Please.", she pleaded.
Her parents exchanged worried glances, but before they could protest, the system chimed in.
[Notice: It is advisable to accept Seraphina Forgeheart into your party.]
Kyros let out another sigh. "I'll make sure she stays safe. Besides, I could use the company.", he assured her parents.
After a moment of hesitation, her parents nodded, placing their trust in the stranger who carried the weight of their world on his shoulders.
"Yes! Let's go show these monsters what we're made of!", she said, already wearing iron armor and carrying a large, heavy, battle axe made of iron, silver and bronze, carrying it lightly.
"Yeah...", he reluctantly replied.
And with that, Kyros and Seraphina set off, the beginning of an unlikely partnership in a tale yet to be told. The duo reached the goblin forest. Instead of trying to fight back, the goblins scattered away screaming.
"Huh... they're... running?", he asked himself, confused by the situation.
"Hey, no fair. They didn't even let us attack them.", said Seraphina, feeling bummed.
Suddenly a large goblin, 20 times the size of regular ones, appeared with a giant iron mace in hand. Each step it took shook the ground. It's green skin darker than the leaves of the forest and it's belly large enough to consume a mountain. It wore a large, bended, golden crown on its head.
[Quest: Defeat the Goblin King.]
(How the hell am I supposed to do that!?)
"Insignificant humans come disturb goblin peace. Goblin King angry. Goblin King will destroy puny humans.", he roared, raising the large iron mace.
The Goblin King swung is abnormally large mace at Seraphina, as Kyros watched. It had felt as if time slowed down while Kyros was making a decision.
[Active Skill: Decision Making has been activated.] Time had slowed down for Kyros from this moment forward as he thought deeply.
(Well, I could let her get crushed to death and break my promise to her parents, earning a bad reputation from the beginning. Or I could push her out of the way and get myself crushed since there wouldn't be any time to dodge. I've already died before. This should be nothing... right?)
Kyros ran and pushed Seraphina out of the way as the mace crushed him and the cave gathered with dust. As the dust cleared, Seraphina looked in shock at the scene. The mace had been completely shattered and Kyros was fine.
(Am I dead... again?)
[Notice: Passive skill "Plot Armor" has been activated. You cannot die by any means unless it is by the dark lord.]
(Ohhh!)
Kyros grinned. "This should be fun.", he said.
The Goblin King, shocked, that a puny human survived an attack from a mace large enough to destroy a mountain, knew it stood no chance. It too, started running away, crushing the smaller ones. In the blink of an eye, Kyros appeared in front of it.
"And where do you think you're going?", he asked, jumping into the air as he put his hands together into fists.
"I still have to pay you back!"
He smashed his fists into the Goblin King's skull, making it drop with a loud thud, unconscious. He landed on to its large stomach.
[Quest Complete: You have defeated the Goblin King.]
