“Alright, take a deep breath and feel the magic flow through you. It's all around and you just need to let it be a part of you.” Said Fawth.
“I'm trying but it's not like this is just natural for me.” Tala said.
“Look, sis, Do you want to wield magic or what?” Said Fawth.
“Yes, obviously.” Tala said.
“Then do as I say.” Fawth said.
Tala closed her eyes and concentrated. Her brow furrowed and her hair began to move as she began to float slightly off the ground. She opened her eyes and light completely engulfed her pupils as she began to cast magic from her hands.
Under his breath, Fawth said “Good, good.”
As magic gathered through her and into her hands, she tried to keep it stabilized but couldn't control it and the magic released all around her and she dropped to her feet as her eyes stopped emitting light.
Tala groaned in frustration and said, “I was so close that time!”
“That was good. Just keep trying and I know you'll master it.” Said Fawth as he put a hand on her shoulder.
Meanwhile…
“Look man, we're so screwed. I thought that book was long gone but somehow it's here. I don't know what to do.” Tekashi said with a concerned look.
“What is this book exactly?” Theo asked.
Tekashi took a deep sigh and explained “The book was an ancient artifact from the world I came from. You remember way back when Slinky and Matter accidentally got stuck in my universe and then we ended up getting sucked here?”
“Oh yeah, that was an interesting day. I remember you were fangirling over all of us which was pretty funny.” Theo said.
“Uh, yeah, right. So in the process of trying to find a way back, Slinky found out about a magical book that could've possibly helped them to get back but it didn't end up being of any use to him. Ever since we were all sent to this universe, I figured Slinky held onto that book but perhaps he discarded it when he decided it wasn't useful. In any case, somehow whoever this magic user is, he has gotten his hands on it and that's the reason for all these magical problems popping up. He's gotten immensely powerful with it and I don't know how to stop him or the book.” Tekashi further explained.
“Alright. Do you know what the book is capable of?” Asked Theo.
“The only information I have is what ol’ Professor Drinx told me. He said that the book used to be in the possession of an expert sorcerer who decided to seal it inside an orb that was at the institute of magic in my universe. I was the one who was destined to shatter it and I used the book as a bargaining piece to get Maeda back from the people who took her. I never saw it again until now so who knows where it’s been and who’s had it.” Tekashi said.
“Wow, this is a lot. We’ll need to formulate a plan to stop these sorcerers and take that book.” Theo said as he pondered.
“I don’t know what to tell you, man. The power that’s within that book is nothing this world has ever faced before.” Said Tekashi, concerned.
“Heh. Do you know who I am?” Theo said with a smirk as he pointed to a picture of a newspaper that read ‘Thorn and Hip: The Lunar Festival Heroes.’
Somewhere on a sidewalk in the city, Cruz and Kim were taking a walk and doing some sightseeing. Kim’s phone rang and she reached into her pocket to grab it.
She looked at the phone and then at Cruz and said “It’s Snowglobe.”
Kim answered and Snowglobe Gorilla on the other end said “Hello there!”
“General Snowglobe!” Kim quickly replied.
“Hoo, hoo! What?” Snowglobe Gorilla said, puzzled.
“Uh, nothing. What’s up?” Kim said.
“We’ve received a report of some activity near your location, hoo! Could you and Beam take a look?” Snowglobe Gorilla said.
“No problem.” Kim said as she hung up.
“Time to suit up.” Kim said.
They both ran into an alleyway and Kim engulfed herself in vegetation and emerged with her hero suit. Cruz walked forward, fell into a shadow, and then dropped from another shadow moments later wearing his hero suit as well. They looked at each other and then they followed their GPS to where the activity was reported. As Cruz flew down from the sky and Kim slid down a tree slide made from her arm they came upon a kid who was crying in the middle of the road.
“Um, are you Ok?” Kim asked as she got closer to the kid.
Without looking up, the kid waved his arm and she was forced backward. She tried to walk back towards the kid but it was as if there was something pulling her away.
“Beam! I don’t know what’s going on!” Kim said.
Cruz dipped into a nearby shadow and tried to emerge from the kid’s shadow but the moment he appeared he too felt an immense pressure of being pulled away.
“Woah, you weren’t kidding!” Cruz said.
“What do we do?” Kim asked.
Cruz looked around at the onlookers and asked “Does anybody know this kid by chance?”
A woman stepped forward with a worried look on her face and said “Y-yes that’s my son. I don’t know what happened. He was walking beside me and he bumped into a man by accident before he fell to the ground and began crying hysterically.”
Kim looked at Cruz and again asked “What are we gonna do?”
Cruz thought for a moment but couldn't come up with a plan until he decided to call Theo on his smartwatch in his suit.
“Cruz? What's going on down there? Snowglobe Gorilla informed me you guys were checking out a scuffle.” Theo said.
“Dad, we've got a problem.” Said Cruz before explaining the situation to him.
“I see. I'll send some backup to you guys.” Said Theo before hanging up.
Meanwhile…
Tekashi gave Fawth a call and said “Hey man, we need to talk. Let's meet at Morgyle Outpost.”
“Sounds good, I'll bring Tala with me. She's been progressing pretty well.” Fawth said.
Tekashi, Fawth, and Tala convened at Morgyle Outpost and Tekashi began to explain the situation with the book.
“Woah, that's crazy. I honestly didn't think that book was still around let alone in this universe.” Fawth said.
“C'mon, it can't be that bad. I mean, this city has the best heroes that have ever lived. If there's anyone that can fix this, it's the Hero Society’s heroes.” Tala said.
“God, I hope you're right.” Tekashi said.
“Do you have an idea where these guys might be?” Fawth asked.
“No, we've lost them the last time we faced them. Do you think you could locate them with the Outpost’s satellite?” Said Tekashi.
“It's worth a shot. While I'm working on that, take Tala with you. She'll be helpful if you run into some magical misfits.” Fawth said.
Fawth walked over to the Outpost’s console and got to work. Tekashi ushered for Tala to follow him and they made their way to the training room.
“Why are we here?” Tala asked.
Tekashi elbowed a hidden contraption that opened up a secret door and said “That's why.”
As the door opened, another room was revealed that had lots of suits on display. They walked in and Tala looked around in awe as Tekashi grabbed a remote that, when he pressed it, lit up several of the suits with light.
“These suits are ones that we've been working on for you. Pick one that you like.” Tekashi said.
Tala approached each one and after inspecting all of them, picked one. Tekashi took it off the display and handed it to her and then pointed to a changing room that was cordoned off with a curtain. After putting the suit on, Tala walked out and Tekashi gave an impressed look.
“Now, we're ready to go.” He said.
Back in the streets of the city, Kim and Cruz had no success in getting any closer to the crying kid when suddenly someone walked up behind them.
“Excuse me, I'll take care of this.” Said a woman.
They looked at each other not knowing who this Hero was as the woman began to walk towards the kid. As the woman felt the pressure of being pushed away, a metal suit formed around her as she dug her heels into the ground and kept slowly moving forward. Kim and Cruz were shocked as the woman finally got to the kid and knelt down.
She revealed her face to the kid and softly said “Hey there. My name is Kate. I want to help you, Ok?”
The kid looked up at her and said “I-I’m scared.”
“Yeah, I know, but me and my friends are going to make you feel better. Is that alright?” She told him.
The kid nodded as Fawth and Tala arrived at the scene.
“What are you guys doing here?” Cruz asked.
“Saving the day, apparently.” Tala said, slightly snarky.
Fawth and Tala approached the kid and Fawth turned to Tala and said “Are you sure you can cast this dispel magic spell?”
“Yes, I've mastered that.” Tala said as she knelt by the kid.
Tala closed her eyes and concentrated as a magic aura surrounded her. She took the kid’s hand as the magic flowed to him and a different magical aura dissipated out of him. Tala finished the spell and let go of his hand and the kid stopped crying upon realizing he was feeling better.
“How’s that?” Tala asked.
“I am better now. Thank you lady.” The kid said.
The mother ran up and hugged the kid and then walked off together. As Cruz and Kim approached them the woman with the metal suit turned around and the suit disappeared and revealed Kate.
“Mom?” Kim said.
“The one and only.” Kate said.
“That was pretty cool Mom.” Said Cruz.
“Just because my hero days are behind me doesn’t mean I can’t still help.” Kate said with a smile.
Fawth looked at Tala and said “Nice work.”
Tala sheepishly looked away and said, “Thanks, bro.”
Somewhere high in the sky, a small island floated by shrouded in the clouds. Several people gathered around the leader.
“You have all come here to gain power and I am more than happy to give it. Prepare yourselves as I bestow this gift to you.” The leader said.
As the leader used the book, magic flowed between the book and the leader and then branched out to the people surrounding him. They all were imbued with magic and were given various magical items from staffs to robes.
The leader closed the book and said “Now my subjects, go and make all people know who the true ruler of this world is.”
