Chapter 2: Victory?
(Okami's POV)
Angels, God's attendants, messengers, and agents that carry out His will. Gifted with great power, they protect humans and guide them under His command. They represent order. Demons, evil angels cast out of Heaven for disobeying God's orders. Their pleasure is destroying humanity. They love no one but themselves and they'll kill, steal and destroy to get what they want. They represent chaos. I learned this the day I saw angels ascending and descending off a great ladder that humans couldn't see. From the ladder was a great light, a light whose very essence was that of a Paradise. I've never seen Heaven or Hell but I was given a choice: Order, love, home or chaos, only me. But as I lifted my hand to that light, I knew what I wanted: I wanted to belong in a place where no demon tread.
(Normal POV)
Dawn had risen over Funhouse. In the light, the amusement park looked quite enjoyable and the very stuff of a child's dream. But even in the light, our trio of hybrids knew demons still lurked.
Hero looked around in awe at the game booths and the signs. It had been a hundred years since he had seen anything like this, and that wasn't even close to what he saw now! The colorful patterns and whimsical games made for such an alluring aura to fill the air.
"You know, this place looks like a lot of fun during the day," Hero said to his friends. His attention turned to an ice cream cart. His green eyes widened at it. "Ice cream? Look at that! I wasn't expecting to see that here!"
Risika also was surprised to see ice cream here.
"We haven't seen ice cream since the 18th century!" she marveled. "They have 31 flavors now?"
"I guess so! But why call a flavor rocky road?" Hero wondered. Okami couldn't believe that his two demon slaying friends were more focused on ice cream than finding the demons like they were supposed to. It irked him.
"You both are too relaxed. We need to keep our guard up. Any second could be a strike!" he chided them. Risika and Hero turned to him and tried to think of some kind of excuse. Okami at times, to those who don't know, can have a short fuse.
