The asshole of a man was leading in first place, smiling from ear to ear as though he had just won the lottery. He snuck a peak over his shoulder at all those lagging behind him to say one final piece.
"Screw all of you! I know what I'm talking about! Haven't any of you learned anything from watching horror movies?! Nice guys finish last! That's just the way it is! Maybe you'll all actually learn a thing or two from me if any of you happen to live through today, HAHAHAHA!" He yelled out before letting hyena-like laughter spill out from his throat, appearing to have completely lost it.
In his mind, everything had become clear to him. He truly was convinced that there was no way in hell he wouldn't make it out alive.
Dmitri placed his right hand above his eyes before whistling while he watched the bastard hightail it out there as if the law was hot on his heels for stealing something.
Damn, I have to admit that fucker's fast! I hate to break it to him, but he's only wastin' his breath. I'll let him tire himself out for a while and give him the false hope that he's winning before I pay him a little visit. I can't wait to see the look on his face once he finds out; it's gonna be fuckin priceless, that's for sure, Dmitri thought to himself while snickering.
"All of ya might as well come on out because I'm not gonna fuckin stop until I get each and every last one of ya! So no, matta, what little corner or crevice ya try to crawl into, I'm just gonna find ya anyway!" Noticing that no one was going for it, Dmitri had a brilliant idea to lure them over to him.
"I promise if ya meet me halfway, then I'll make your death as quick and painless as possible, pinky swear! Is that a deal, or what?! Better hurry! It's about to expire! Going once, twice!" Dmitri yelled loud enough for everyone to hear, but no one dared to turn around to look.
Dmitri cupped his hand around his ear while a twisted smirk crossed his face when he heard nothing but crickets.
"No, takers, huh?! Alright, fine! Have it your way; let's see how that works out for you! Since none of ya will come out, then I'll just have to go in and get you! Either way, you're screwed! But don't worry, you won't be lonely for long since your little friends will be joining ya soon!" Dmitri reassured them.
"Why don't we let fate decide who's biting the bullet next?!" Dmitri proclaimed with a menacing grin stretching across his face.
"Man, I swear all this suspense is eating me alive!" Dmitri exclaimed, his voice dripping with sarcasm as he squeezed his eyes shut and waved his index finger around in a dramatic fashion.
Once Dmitri reopened his eyes, his finger pointed directly at a young couple holding hands running near the back of the pack.
He smirked before placing his hand where his heart would be and muttering, "Aw, well, what have we got here? Young love. It warms my damn cold heart."
Dmitri then began slowly clapping before declaring, "And there you have it, folks, it looks like we have ourselves a winner! It's going to be the lucky young couple right over there!"
"Too bad, you see, the thing about love is that it just never seems to last," Dmitri ominously said as his features began to darken and his tone grew as cold as ice. Without wasting a second, he rushed toward the couple he had his eyes set on.
Dmitri slowly tapped his long, jagged nails along the boyfriend's back and leaned close to whisper in his left ear, sending literal chills crawling up his spine. "I hate to break up this little love fest, but one of ya has to step out."
All it took was just one single look at Dmitri for the girlfriend to start screaming her head off.
"Damn, that's one powerful set of windpipes ya got there! I think you actually might've blown out my eardrum! Sheesh, the chicks these days just can't seem to get enough of me, can they? I don't know what it is; I just keep on knocking em' dead. They take one look, and they just start going haywire. Can you believe that shit? Next thing, they'll be begging for autographs; there's only so much of a guy to go around, Dmitri bragged before running his fingers through his hair.
The girlfriend, not really listening to all the crap Dmitri was spilling at the speed of lightning, reached into her pocket and whipped out a can of pepper spray. Not giving Dmitri a chance to react, she began spraying the living daylights out of his eyes.
"Son of a—it burns! What I'm not good enough for ya!" Dmitri screamed while covering his eyes with his hands, appearing to be in serious pain.
In a fraction of a second, the girlfriend's eyes widened in horror when Dmitri's entire body began to tremble, and his supposed cries of agony turned into sinister laughter.
Dmitri peaked through his fingers, his expression shifting from pain to pure amusement, "Is that really all ya got? That was nothing? Sorry to burst your little bubble, but it didn't do a damn thing. Take a look for yourself."
Dmitri removed his hands from his face, revealing his eyes were unphased before dusting off his shoulders.
"Did ya really think that a thing like that was actually gonna work? What are ya nuts?! You're gonna have to do a lot better than that if ya wanna take me down. All ya ended up doing was pissing me off, that's about it," Dmitri rubbed in as a twisted smirk formed on his face, and a demented look crept into his eyes.
In the blink of an eye, Dmitri drove his razor-sharp nails into the center of the woman's chest and ripped out her heart, causing blood to trickle down his arm.
The boyfriend froze, completely mortified. All the color drained from his face as Dmitri held out the still-beating heart of his girlfriend in the palm of his hand.
"What? Don't look at me like that. You can't tell me you don't want it. I thought you both loved each other to death," Dmitri teased before tossing the heart at the boyfriend.
It bounced off his nice, clean white shirt, staining it crimson, causing him to scream before splatting onto the ground in front of his feet, making him nearly want to pass out.
"Looks to me like you're both breaking up, huh? Guess it just wasn't working out. But what can I say that's love for ya? Always making a real mess of things. It's just not fuckin worth it. Screw all that shit. That's why I like keeping my options open," Dmitri said with a mocking grin, sounding a bit exhausted from just bringing it up.
Dmitri then fell silent and stared at the boyfriend dead in the eyes before moving closer to him.
Before long, a bloodcurdling scream filled the night air as the boyfriend met the same fate as his girlfriend, with his beating heart getting torn straight from his chest by Dmitri.
Dmitri brought the boyfriend's beating heart resting within the palm of his hand close to his face and began conversing with it.
"Tsk, tsk, tsk, man. I tried to warn you that things would turn out like this and that it would all be short-lived if you dated her, didn't I? And just look at what happened. You got your heart ripped out. That's what you get from not listening to good ole Daddy Dmitri," Dmitri said sarcastically before carelessly letting the boyfriend's heart slip out of his hand and flop onto the floor.
"Well, that's the end of that," Dmitri said with hardly any emotion before licking the remnants of blood off his hand.
Then, out of nowhere, tragedy struck, and Dmitri had a front-row seat to watch the whole thing play out.
It all happened so fast.
The shoelaces of the little boy with his mom with strawberry blonde hair had betrayed him and become undone.
Gasp!
The little boy's eyes widened in fright as he tripped over them and came crashing down, sprawling out on the ground beneath him.
Crunch!
Someone sprinted directly behind him in a panic. Their foot harshly came down on his leg, shattering the bone.
"Aahhh, my leg!" The little boy screamed as an excruciating pain shot through his leg, and panic washed over him.
There was no time to stop and think. His mom let her instincts guide her on what she needed to do next within a second.
Without a moment's hesitation, she scooped him up and dove to the left. Her heart raced as adrenaline poisoned her senses.
She used her body as a shield as they landed on the ground hard. Her nerves cried out in pain, but she was relieved that they were both now away from the stampede of people.
Her breath hitched in her throat when she looked up, only to see Dmitri hovering over them. "Oh, hey, how nice of you to stick around. Damn, that must've hurt like hell. What's with that face? There's nothing to be afraid of here, see," he said as he held out his right hand, pretending to be nice enough to help her up.
"You're worrying yourself over nothing. I swear I don't bite much, honest. So whaddya say? Up we go!" Dmitri said with a wicked fanged grin while crossing the fingers of his left hand that he held behind his back.
