Just like she said Mrs. Leane is back at Marie's room after two hours to give her a tour. Mrs. Leane showed Marie the kitchen, the mess hall, the study room, and the workout room. She led her to the back garden where they grow their own produce for anyone to use, the cleaning closet where she can find anything she needs to do her chores, and lastly the rec room. A big open space for activities for everyone to enjoy. The orphanage may be bigger than Little Peaks but it has a similar setup. The only difference is the workout room. The closest thing to it was the indoor playground at Little Peaks for the younger kids. Marie's favorite place from the tour is the back garden. It leads out to a beautiful forest. Lush green trees, mixtures of green, brown, and orange colors, and the tranquil sounds of nature. The forest was always a calming place for Marie and she is excited to walk through this one. Mrs. Leane told her that it was safe to traverse as long as she didn't venture too far in.
"This is where I will leave you for now. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to ask me." She turns to head out of the room but stops to say "The rec room is the best place to make friends, so go have fun." Mrs. Leane then walks away to return to her office.
Marie surveys the room debating where she should go or who she should introduce herself to. On one side of the room, there are a couple of large tables with chairs around them. Next to it is a shelf that contains various board games and cards. There are three girls who look older than Marie, that are sitting at one of the tables. On the other side, there are a few couches surrounding a TV. A shelf filled with movies and a DVD player sits below it. Marie spots a group of girls watching something on the TV. She decides to go there, thinking that's the best option. Marie hoped Mrs. Leane was right about everyone being welcoming. She walks up to the group feeling nervous and stands at the side of the TV. She hasn't had many positive interactions with kids her own age before. She's hesitant but loudly clears her throat to get their attention. They look up at her expectantly.
"Hello, my name is Marie Hendricks and I just moved in here. It is nice to meet you all. May I join you guys." she gets out without stuttering, thankfully.
One of the girls, who is holding the remote pauses what they are watching. She has auburn hair that is in a ponytail that reaches down her back. She has a tawny brown skin complexion that is sprinkled with freckles, and large brown eyes. Her makeup is immaculently done. "Hello Marie my name is Cleo Finner and of course, you can join us," Cleo says while patting the couch to the right of her. "It's nice to meet you too." she then points to another girl sitting on the floor in front of her. "This is Millie Chopra. She is hard of hearing and mainly communicates through sign language."
Marie smiles at Millie and signs 'Hello my name is Marie'. Millie breaks out in a huge smile and signs back 'You know ASL? That's so cool. Hello Marie my name is Millie Chopra, it is nice to meet you too'. Millie has a short, black bob that frames her round face. She has a rich chocolate complexion and cat-like eyes. Her nails are perfectly manicured with little ladybugs on them. Marie signs back 'Yes I learned because one of the girls at my old orphanage was deaf.' Millie gives her a friendly smile but says nothing else.
"Hello Marie my name is Cassandra Hwang. Welcome to CGGO." says the girl sitting to the left of Cleo. She has long blonde hair with bangs that cover her eyebrows. She has a light tan and is dressed to a tee. She looks as if she is mature for her age. Something Marie has noticed comes with the territory of being in the system. Marie waves at her and sits next to Cleo but what a look of confusion.
"Hi, Cassandra. I hope you don't mind me asking but what is CGGO?" Marie asks Cassandra. Cassandra tilts her head slightly to left and then a look of reconciliation appears on her face.
"Oh sorry. CGGO is Clover Green Girls Orphanage. The name is too long to say so we just shorten it to CGGO. " Cassandra giggles at her mishap.
"Oh that makes sense" Marie giggles to herself as well.
"Hello, Marie my name is Keandre Adumu." the last girl in in the group, who is sitting on the armchair says. She looks tall even while sitting and has the deepest brown skin Marie has ever seen. Her skin is so smooth she almost looks like a doll. She has the cutest pixie cut and is covered in jewelry. She looks like she belongs on a runway in Paris right now.
"Hi, Keandre nice to meet you." she faces all of them and says "Thank you for allowing me to sit with you all. What are you'll watching?" Marie says as she turns her attention away from the girls and to the TV.
"Lucky for you we just started so you haven't missed much but we are watching the Princess Diaries." Cleo answers "Have you seen it before?"
"No this is my first time hearing of it," replies Marie. Some of the girls give her dramatic shocked faces.
"You are going to love it," says Cassandra. "It's our favorite we rewatch all the time."
"You're so lucky to watch it for the first time." Cleo chimes in excitedly, sounding a little envious. Cleo presses play and they get back into the movie. Ten minutes into watching Marie already knows this will be one of her favorite movies. She also thinks she will be good friends with this group of girls. Feeling even better about her prospects in this new city she settles into the couch and focuses on the movie.
