I paused mid sweep and glanced at my reflection in the shop window. Careful not to give anything away I asked, "Do I not look hot?"
Teddy rolled his eyes and smiled, "You know that's not what I meant."
"Well, I wouldn't know Teddy. Given that I haven't parted my hair this way in a long time and you didn't even give me a single compliment."
Teddy smiled, "Come on Tamaki. Let's go or we are going to be late."
I placed my right palm over my chest in mock horror, "Tamaki? Not even Gojo or someone I don't know... Cool?"
Teddy laughed as he crossed my freshly swept floor. He placed both his palms over my back and pushed me in the direction of the back room, "You want to meet my friends or not?"
"Um well... Am I allowed to flirt with the hot ones?"
Teddy smirked, "The female ones, sure."
"Come on, that's not fair. You know I am strictly dick."
"Yes that's why you can flirt with the female ones," Teddy smiled as he crossed his arms over his chest, "Everytime you sleep with my friends they stop being my friends. And I like these ones."
"Ok that only happened once..."
Teddy's eyes narrowed as he looked at me through his hooded eyes.
"Ok maybe three times but all I did was show them a good time. It's not like they didn't enjoy it."
"That's not the problem here." Teddy said, tapping his shoe against the floor.
I lifted my hands in surrender and smiled, "Fine fine. No sleeping with your friends no matter how hot they are." I removed my apron and placed it on the hook in the back room. With Teddy on my trail I put the broom in the closet and picked up my shop keys.
I pushed my key into the keyhole before turning to a huddled up Teddy, "What's your stance on hot neighbours?"
"This weather was not made for these types of conversations Sam. Can we go, please."
"Taking that as a feel-free-to-help-yourself," I muttered to myself as I locked the door.
The Kinsley Mug was semi-packed as usual. The bar was the closest bar to West Kinsley University meaning it was always the best place to ‘meet’ new people. The place had a rustic feel with its brown and bronze aesthetic and furniture.
"So I need you to be on your best behaviour..."
"...Are you even listening to me?"
The handsome devil in front of me smiled, lips mirroring mine as I licked my bottom lip.
"Sam!"
I reached for the low hanging, black strand and twisted it around my index finger giving my hair a bounce that didn't come naturally.
"Jesus, Sam! Will you stop making love to your reflection and actually pay attention to what I am saying," Teddy warned.
I turned off my camera and flipped my phone face down onto the table.
Teddy sighed, eyes roaming past me. I grinned, checking out the barista now that I knew I looked perfect. The guy by the counter was a new fresh-faced city boy with bleached blonde hair that wasn't done in West Kinsley. His hair alone gave him away as a big city boy but the way he worked nailed it down. He worked as fast as a middle aged lawyer rushing through his cases so he can pick up his kid before the preschool closes. Yeah, no one in West Kinsley or Portmornt worked like that. People in small towns didn't need to rush, especially when everything seemed to move at the speed of molasses. Rushing only makes you a liability.
" -do you think?"
"What?"
"I don't even know why I try."Teddy sighed, following my line of sight. "Come on Sam, you're not fooling anyone. You got dumped didn't you? Because if not, why would you leave The World renowned formula 1 champion, Johnny Jude for this old backwater town full of people you either have history with or hate." Teddy said Johnny's name as if it was made of bile.
"Case and point," he said, staring at the blast from my past waltzing through the front door.
I scowled, as his majesty moved further into the bar his wide gait carried an air of haughty that just didn't belong in a campus dive bar. And yet there he was parting ways with a single glance and breaking hearts by just existing.
Teddy cleared his throat beside me and I pulled my gaze away from the perfect prick long enough to glare at him, "What?"
"You might want to fix your face before the cheer squad shows up."
I raised my phone and flicked my index finger in my hair, "Fix my face?"
Teddy choked on his juice and laughed. "I didn't mean... I meant your intent for murder is showing and we are still in public, dear." He rolled his eyes and smirked, " Try to keep all your homicidal thoughts locked away until we get home ok?" Teddy laughed clearly, enjoying my distaste, "You don't want to embarrass me in public now, do you?"
"Ha ha very funny." I said, stealing one last glance over my shoulder.
"So...William huh?" Teddy smirked making the most annoying slurping sound as he dragged his juice from his glass, "I take it that obsession isn't gone yet?"
"It's not an obsession," I scowled, checking to see if his majesty was perched on a bar stool like the rest of us. He wasn't, surprise surprise. The prince was in an obsidian coloured vip booth in the back. And ironically the booth was lined in shimmery gold. The jokes honestly wrote themselves at this point.
Look at him, I waved in his direction. Perched on his throne like the real dictator he is. He doesn't even know how to have fun. What is he doing here?"
Teddy smiled and his eyes shone in the dimly lit place, "Well who said he doesn't know how to have fun. You saw his Snapchat post. I know you did."
Sam jae Lee doesn't believe in love. What he does believe in is over indulgence and debauchery. The 20 year old is six feet tall, reckless, flirty and 128 pounds of pure unfiltered chaos on a Harley.
Sam was set on living his high life an ocean away from the small town that brought nothing but misery to him but unfortunately for him one small miscalculation led to him seeking refuge in said town.
Now with no job, no real source of fun and definitely nothing holding him back Sam is set on ruining William Hartley's life because what's the point of having an arch nemesis if not for turning their life upside down.
