Ten years later.
Malaika stood in front of a full-length mirror, admiring the beading of her gown. It was even more resplendent than she had realised. The reds and blues clashed so well that they had no choice but to form a covalent partnership.
“Do you think my hair is too white? Should I make it less so?” She asked Hanwi who was busily staring at her, lost to the world. Malaika could not help but smile. “I fear that one of these fine days, you are going to eat me.”
That seemed to snap her out of her reverie. “You cannot tell a wolf that, you know. I will feel the pressure to actually eat you.”
“We can so totally do it tonight.” She went back to staring at herself. “What colour do you think my wolf will be? I hope she’ll be on the darker side and huge.”
Hanwi got to her feet. She was also dressed in a fantastic gown, hair piled up in lively braids, jingling with metallic ornaments as she moved to her side. “Whatever she looks like, I know she’ll be beautiful beyond belief.” She kissed her shoulder. “Are you ready for a new chapter of your life?”
Malaika took in a deep breath, smiled to herself one last time then said, “Ready.”
It was a perfect day.
