Dew's gonna be honest, his life is unbelievably boring.
It was pretty bland before he met Rowan. Back when he'd just go to work, come home, draw, sleep, and repeat. Then it got more interesting when Rowan entered his life and Dew was given a purpose: to find the Origin.
Now, however? Rowan is gone from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM almost every day, then half the time disappears in the evening to go pick up someone to fuck. Dew found the Origin, but he can't tell anyone, and he's also unemployed.
His life has taken a nose dive right into boring town. All he does is stay at Rowan's house and draw and clean. Which he'd be fine with, in small doses, but it's every day.
Dew sighs, eating his cereal with Spikes passed out beside him, flipping through channels.
Dew hasn't heard back from Food Town, and it's been about three days. He's slowly beginning to lose hope. He finally lands on a more age appropriate cartoon, and is about to settle in to watch it, when the screen immediately flicks off. Dew frowns, about to turn the TV back on, but then it flickers to what appears to be a press conference.
Dew raises an eyebrow, and reads the headline scrolling at the bottom.
Breaking News: The King Has Called An Emergency Press Conference.
Dew pauses, interest immediately piqued. Emergency press conference? What the hell happened? Marley seemed just fine about a week ago, when the two talked on the phone. What changed?
There are several cameras trained on the stage, and dozens of reporters in the audience. They seem to be somewhere indoors, and judging by the background in the windows, Silor City. Dew just sits on his couch for a while, and pretty soon, none other than Marley Nocona steps out on stage. Dew recognizes Marley's boyfriend in the background, as well as Rowan himself beside the stage.
Marley walks up to the podium, and waits a few seconds after the chatter quiets down.
"Hello, citizens of the Westhem." He starts out. Dew just continues munching on his cereal. There are some camera flashes, and Marley smiles for a moment.
"Recently, there have been some documents released to the public. Said documents detail several claims about the Westhem not being alone, about there being other civilizations on the planet, and some letters about the Origin of Abnormalities."
Oh. Oh shit! Documents released to the public? What?!
"There is no reason to worry, however. I authorized the release of this information. I have called this conference to confirm: the documents are true."
A murmur takes over the crowd, and Dew can do nothing but sit there in astonishment, watching the king purse his lips, before continuing on.
"Currently there are three kingdoms. Osiphia, which is underground, the Westhem, and the Easthem. There is also the Empire of Avia in the sky. These are the nations that make up Earth's civilization. There have been rumors of a war under way, and I can confirm that as well. Currently, Osiphia is trying to take the sky from Emperor Theodoric."
There is a roar of reporters, all mumbling and asking questions. This is why Marley notifies them, "I will be taking questions at the end."
"I do not know why my father wanted to keep this information from the citizens, but I feel you all have a right to know. The borders to the Westhem are closed to all travel except to and from Avia, however, as we have chosen a side in the war and we do not want to risk any loss of civilian lives."
More mumbling, then silence.
"I would like to confirm that the Energy Theory is correct, in regards to the reason abnormalities exist in the first place. There is an origin person, they are human, and we currently have an investigation under way to locate them. It is believed that they are the key to unlocking peace." Marley looks around at the reporters as he speaks.
"Now, I will let Emperor Theodoric speak."
Dew's eyes widen, and he freezes in his eating. What? Emperor-Emperor Theodoric is here? In the Westhem?!
Dew leans forward in his seat, and watches as Marley steps off to the side as a man walks onto the stage.
The first thing Dew notices is that the guy has stark white hair, yet he's clearly only a few years older than Dew. He's very good looking as well—not as hot as Rowan, obviously. He's attractive in a very classy, poised, professional way.
"Hello, Citizens of the Westhem. I am Emperor Theodoric of Avia."
Woah. His voice is so smooth.
"I would like to speak further on the war between Avia and Osiphia. I'm afraid it officially began several months ago with the bombing of Grist, our capital. The Westhem has officially chosen to aid Avia in the war, as of last week, which means that the Easthem and Osiphia are each enemies of the State."
Dew raises his eyebrows. Fuck, okay, so they really have officially chosen a side in the war. Damn. Alright.
Emperor Theodoric speaks more on some matters that Dew doesn't understand, before Marley gets back on and describes sources you can go to for more information. Afterward, only about two reporters have questions—most of them probably in shock— and then it cuts out and Dew's cartoon is back on.
Wow. Dew really hopes that Marley knows what he's doing, in terms of choosing a side. They are now at war with the Easthem and Osiphia—Queen Aliah is their enemy! Well, her and whoever the king of Osiphia is.
A few minutes later, Dew's phone begins ringing. He picks it up without even looking at the caller ID, as he's far too immersed in both the show and his thoughts, and answers absently;
"Hello?"
"Hi! Am I speaking with Dewey Price?" A voice asks. It's vaguely recognizable, and a moment goes by before Dew finally realizes it's Sandra.
"Yes, Ma'am."
"Okay! I'm calling to let you know that you got the job! When would be a good time for you to start?"
Dew blinks. Huh. Well, since he literally does nothing all day;
"I can do tomorrow?"
"Great! I'll see you at 12?"
"Sure."
"Okay! Bye!"
"Bye."
She hangs up. Dew stands up from the couch and walks into the kitchen, washing his bowl out, before going back to the couch. He's honestly really happy he got a job, because all he needs to do is wait a few paychecks and he'll feel comfortable moving out on his own. Then, he can go back to having straight thoughts
