PIPER
Some days passed since we went on that date. Since we…kissed. Every time I thought about it made my heart flutter, it was just as I imagined. His lips felt so warm and also soft against mine. And it wasn’t our only kiss, because over the past days, we had done it more. We would cuddle and give kisses to each other when we had the chance, but that was just it. When the kisses became more intimate, Donovan would stop and return to his room, always leaving me disappointed because I wanted more, I wanted him to touch me and I also wanted to touch him. I knew Donovan wouldn’t touch me without consent, once again I would have to initiate it, but this time I had no idea how.
‘You just have to seduce him. Wear something sexy.’ Priya suggested. ‘Huh? No way, I’m not doing that.’
‘Then you will never get anywhere. I guess you could also just talk to him.’ Priya said annoyed this time. ‘Tell him you want to do it.’
‘I don’t think is that easy.’ I said unsure. ‘You don’t lose anything trying.’ Priya said and I could almost see him shrugging his shoulders.
And he was right. I should talk to him about it after dinner. I closed the book in my hands and went to the kitchen. I needed to clear my mind first and baking was the only way. A cake was the way. A cake that I could eat with Donovan later. As I baked the time passed and with the cake ready it was time for Donovan to arrive from work. I was excited waiting for him until I saw Richard walk inside the dining room alone. Confusion filled my mind.
“Where’s Donovan?” I asked Richard calmly.
“He won’t be coming for dinner today. He had a special event he had to attend to.” Richard explained and I felt a pang in my chest.
“What? And why are you not with him?” I asked confused.
“He asked me to come back to let you know.” He explained to me and I nodded, understanding. “He will be back late so is best you eat dinner alone.”
“Okay. Thank you for letting me know Richard.” I said with a soft smile as I sat at the table to eat dinner. It felt lonely not having him on the other side of the table and I wondered where he was.
DONOVAN
Flock parties had never been my thing, but once in a while, I would have to show my face. Today I would rather be back home with Piper, cuddling and kissing him, but my sister was hosting the party and I couldn’t reject it. As I stood drinking my glass of wine, I could feel all eyes on me, my hearing was not good but even I knew their whispers were about me.
“Donovan.” Someone called my name and I turned, it was Olivia, my sister.
“Olivia. You look great today.” I said with a soft smile.
“You can stop with the flattering. What is this rumor I’ve heard?” She said and by the tone of her voice and expression, I knew she was upset about something.
“Rumor?” I asked confused, not knowing what she was talking about.
“Yes, the rumor that you have been going around with a…snake.” She said the last word with disgust and everything made sense. Bramville was a small town and someone must have probably seen us and started spreading the rumor.
“It’s not a rumor. It’s true.” I said with honesty.
“What? What did you just say?” Olivia looked at me incredulous and the scolding started. “Donovan, how dare you be with something like that. Don’t you remember what happened with our parents? Those things only bring misfortune.”
“Don’t treat him like he is nothing. He is more important to me than you think.” I said holding back my anger and deciding to tell him the whole truth. “He is my fated mate.”
“Huh? You have gone insane, Donovan.” She said with her brows frowned. “You are a disgrace to our family. Our parents would be disappointed with you.”
I sighed as I saw her walk away from me. Guess it was time to go back home, the mood here was ruined and I honestly didn’t want to see my sister for the rest of the night. I drank the entirety of my wine glass and left it at a table, walking for the door to leave but someone interrupted me.
“Donny~ I was looking for you.” I heard a voice say beside me and an arm wrapping against mine, horrible hormones hit my nostrils. I sighed.
“Helena. It’s nice to see you.” I said letting go of my arm and putting some space between us.
“Aw, why are you putting me away, honey?” Helena said pouting and trying to come closer but I walked a step back. “You know we should really start working on the arrangements for our wedding.”
I sighed. Helena Wright, a member of the flock and daughter of one of the shareholders from our company and also my ex-fiance. The whole engagement thing was a promise our parents made to each other but I had no wish to fulfill it. I never had an interest in her, I always knew her intentions were not true either. She just wanted my money, that’s all.
“I’ve told you I have no intentions of marrying you, Helena.” I said in a serious tone. “I have someone else in my life and that someone is waiting at home for me. So if you’ll excuse me, I’ll take my leave.”
I walked away from her, not looking back to see her reaction to my words. I gained curious looks as I walked outside but I didn’t care. All I wanted was to go back home to my Piper.
PIPER
I heard a knock on my bedroom door, I closed the book I was reading and the door opened. The scent of Donovan hit my nostrils, and I smiled. I was excited to see him.
“Hey, I wanted to check if you were awake,” Donovan said with a smile entering the room.
“I was just reading,” I said showing him the book with a smile. “Welcome back.”
“You shouldn’t read so late, Piper,” Donovan said walking closer to the bed.
“But I wanted to wait for you,” I said pouting and I heard a chuckle coming from him.
“Really? Why?” He asked.
“Well, I wanted to talk to you about something,” I said. It wasn’t a lie, I wanted to talk about being more intimate.
“Oh, what is it?” Donovan asked sitting next to me on the bed and then a foul smell hit my nostrils. Anger came to me.
‘Cheating. He was cheating on us. Why the fuck does he have the scent of another omega?’ Priya hissed full of anger and trying to take over to confront him but I did it instead.
“Why…” I murmured.
“Huh?” Donovan said confused.
“Why do you smell like someone else?” I said with anger, looking into his eyes. “Y-you were with another omega! You traitor!”
“No, Piper. It’s a misunderstanding. I was at a flock party and someone’s scent must have stuck on me.” Donovan tried to explain but I didn’t believe him. “I wasn’t with someone else.”
“Lies! You are a liar! It’s all over you.” I said with tears in my eyes and pushed him away when he tried to touch me. “Get out! I don’t want to see you!”
“Piper…” Donovan said.
“Get. Out.” I hissed at him.
“Okay…” Donovan stood from the bed and walked to the door, before walking out he looked back at me. “Let’s talk when you calm down, okay?”
“OUT!” I screamed throwing a pillow to the door and he closed it.
I felt betrayed and hurt. How dare he do this to me? When I was waiting for him, he was having fun with someone else. Tears started falling down my cheeks and all I wanted was to go back home and hide in my room. In my own bed. I didn’t want to see Donovan anymore.
