It took mere seconds for the Moon Fiend to angrily lunge at Clover, dancing around the moon-lit grass, her gaze darkened.
Squeezing the handle of her hatchet she swung, as he went to claw her she split his paw clean in half, strings attaching his almost severed paw down the middle.
Howling and yelping, the Moon Fiend jumped back, circling clover.
“We’ll look at that…the girly knows what she’s doing….” He hissed, his mouth frothing as he licked his paw.
Twisting on her heel, Clover in a moment, spun around and charged at the Moon Fiend, its tail smacking at her, as sharp as blades while she jumped back, ducking around it.
As if she could see his bleeding heart, her eyes burned red and so did that strange spot in his chest.
It looked almost like a button in a black doll, a misplaced color in a dark painting.
Twirling the hatchet in hand she took the end and stabbed it right through the Moon Fiend's heart, and just as fast pulled it out and chopped off his head.
Falling into the grass, blood soaked the dirt.
“Y-you…..” It shakily said….. “Aren’t human…ha..haha..hahaha!”
And then, the wolf died….its fluffy corpse left behind as Clover looked down confused.
Aren’t human? She was plenty human.
Walking to the Tabby cat, she bent down, promptly hitting his back.
“W-what— The Moon Fiend!” Springing up, he looked up to see Clover, bending down.
“It’s dead.” She said bluntly, and he slowly turned his head to look at the corpse, and then back at her, astonished.
“N-no way— there’s no way you did that!” He screamed and she smacked his face, causing him to yelp.
Rubbing his cheek, he pouted. “So….what even happened?”
“A basket ate you.”
“I can see that runt, I mean—“ Watching the basket dissipate, they stared confused before he stood, tugging on her sleeve.
“We should call this in….it might-“ He was about to say until he saw her simply toss the giant corpse over her shoulder and grab the head.
“Well, time to take this back to Mister Ram, it’s not very big but it will do.” Giggling, she started skipping away.
“W-what are you some dog?! He said, chasing after her.
From the treetops, Quentin and Sabrina sat and watched around, looking for any Moon Fiends that may threaten the hunter's first patrol.
“Pretty quiet out tonight.” Sabrina said, getting nothing but a mutter of agreement from Quentin who scanned the area.
Looking all around, she couldn’t help but see this worry in his eyes.
“They’re fine you know, there’s nothing to fret about.” Leaning against the tree branch, she sighed as his ears twitched.
“And they’ll stay fine if we’re vigilant.” He said, sternly.
Rolling her eyes, a small pout formed on her face as she rested her chin in her palm.
“Are you worried about that girl?” Sabrina asked.
“No— I’m worried about what she’ll do! Oh goodness someone might be dead by now.” Rubbing his head he ruffled his hair as he took a deep breath.
“Then just leave her, I’m sure someone wou—“
“I'm quite content in this partnership.” He said, his eyes glowing a gentle, but serious blue.
“The more I get to know her, the more questions I have, I’ve always loved a good book.” Smiling, he looked so confident that Sabrina’s eyes widened.
Her nose scrunched, this wasn’t what she wanted, leaning forward she went to say something when both their thoughts were interrupted.
“Hey wait up!” A voice called, and the two looked down to see….
“Is that a headless Moon Fiend…?” Seeing it run they stared for a long moment, until they saw a Tabby running after it, and everything clicked.
Quentin’s face turned cold as he jumped down.
“Clover!!” He yelled, landing in the grass as his hooves hit the dirt.
The moment he stood up, he saw Clover with one arm holding the wolf and the other its head, dropping them both with a loud thud when she saw him.
“Mister Ram!” Her eyes lit up.
“What did you doooo?!” Running over to her, he checked her over, a smile on her face.
Jumping down from the tree, Sabrina walked over to the Tabby.
“Oh, Sabrina….Isn't that the guy you were hoping to partner with…?” Looking up at her, she clicked her tongue and his ears lowered.
I don’t think you’ll win this one Sabrina.
Looking at Quentin fuss over Clover, his tail relaxed, even if she was a runt, he couldn’t help but be a little jealous, it must be nice to have your partner care about you…..Sabrina never cares…..
Walking beside her, Mister Ram tapped his chin. “So you’re saying a strange basket had a Moon Fiend inside it?”
“Yeah, the wolf just jumped right out and stole Mister Tabby.”
“It’s Fiend, and that's rather strange…you attract many strange things, Clover.”
“Like you!” She said while giggling, as his face tinted pink with surprise, and his tail wiggled, quickly shaking his head.
“At first I was going to leave Mister Tabby, but I don’t think you would have liked that.”
“You should always lend a hand if you can, even if it’s dangerous.” Mister Ram said with a smile.
Looking over to him, he reminded her so much of someone….but whenever she tried to think of who her heart hurt so bad that she was left with no choice but the push the thoughts away.
“But…why?” She said, quietly.
“Why? Why to lending a hand?” He said, tilting his head when she nodded.
“Well, it’s simple really, think of it like this, if I never saw a strange bulge in a Moon Fiend's belly I never would have found you, you can meet so many people by lending a hand, somebody’s got to help them.” Turning to look at him, his eyes flickered, it was strange how at times they’d almost turn color from pale blue to a foggy grey, but nonetheless, she smiled.
“Thank you….” Stopping, before she could say another word a sheeply picture appeared in her mind, it was…strange. “Mister Ram….”
