Chapter 18.
Glades incinerated Emily.
That same day, Glades went to the police station to report Emily's disappearance, claiming that Chester had kidnapped her, but when they arrived at the site, the officers noticed that the place was being cleaned by workers from one of those companies that clear the bush, because they had burned all the sunflowers to prepare the land to replant other things...
Glades claimed that he had made them run all over that field; and the workers, when the officers asked them if they had found anything unusual there, they responded that they hadn't found anything strange, just some plastic bags that the wind blows away and some rats that had been roasted... then, the officers asked the workers who was the boss of this land and they said that it belonged to Chester Valt... immediately the authorities sent a patrol again to Chester 's house and others stayed checking the area, to be able to confirm that they didn't miss any possible evidence.
It was then that Glades thought of saying that they were near the backyard of Emily's house, that they could check there and confirm with her mother.
and her daughter, who had indeed disappeared, the officers began to think that she had practically begun to confess to a crime of passion, by giving small pieces of evidence that could indeed be used to tie up loose ends, so they began to consider her as one of the main suspects, taking her to the police station, where she shouted that she was innocent and the real culprit was Chester.
The officers, on the other hand, who had arrived at Chester's house, searched all the gardens, all the rooms, Chester was very kind to let them search without a warrant and they asked him why he had ordered the sunflowers on that land to be burned, to which he replied that it was because he was about to receive some new seeds from abroad of different fruits and flowers and he was only preparing the land so that when his order arrived, it would not take long to fertilize his land...
The officers asked for an invoice for the fruits and flowers he confessed to and he showed them and even gave them some copies in case that would help them; then he asked, feigning curiosity, what was the reason for searching his entire property and asking about his sunflower crops, to which the officers simply replied that his ex-partner had confessed to the disappearance of a young woman named Emily… and she claims that you have kidnapped her…
Chester snorted, let out his breath and put a hand on his forehead and said: really, this woman only wants to see me in jail, ¿why can't she just look for another partner who can tolerate her madness and have to involve me in each of her stories…? The officer told him, don't worry, sir, you are clean and the woman is under arrest, think of her as a bad love and learn to choose in the future.
The officers went to search Glades' house and found a jar full of ashes behind the dresser, which they confiscated and sent to the coroner's office, discovering that they were the traces of Emily's cremated body, so her mother was immediately notified that her daughter had been found cremated in the young Glades' house and that she should go pick up her daughter's remains from the coroner's office.
The woman, with a broken heart and a broken soul, went to the indicated place, picked up her daughter's remains to give her a Christian burial and then took her to make a formal complaint against Glades, but the woman simply said that it was not worth it to report her because she also had three children to take care of, that it was best for her to do community service, the officers accepted and Glades was sentenced to community service for twelve months and house arrest.
During all this time, Glades kept saying that she hadn't done it, that it was all Chester's doing, that he had always been the author of all the crimes and disappearances and that he had only used her as a smokescreen to cover up his atrocities.
No matter how she acted, no one would believe her, because no one had lived it like she had lived it, simply the only person she had as a witness had died at his hands and she would be the one to pay the sentence that he would have to carry…
Two months later, being very late at night, a call to 119, emergency services, was received, around two in the morning, the operator answered saying 119 ¿What is your emergency?, and on the other end the voice of a little girl was heard who said: ¿Can you hear me?, the operator without any empathy says to the girl, ¿do you know that it is a crime to call emergency services when you are not really having an emergency and you can be fined and pay up to six months in jail if it is not really an emergency?, then the girl said: it is an emergency, I want you to help me look for my mother… the operator asks her ¿is there an adult at home who can pass me through?... the girl says: my grandmother, but she is asleep at this time: the operator asks her at that moment , ¿And why are you calling at this hour and not calling during the day with your grandmother and going to file a formal complaint with the authorities for the disappearance of your mother?, But the girl tells her: It's that my grandmother tells me that my mother went on a trip to heaven and she doesn't know when she'll return, so I want to contact you so that if you know the number for heaven you can contact her and tell her if you can contact my mother... The operator was stunned upon hearing this, then asking the girl: ¿How old are you and what's your mother's name to see if I can contact her?... The girl told her: I'm six years old and my mother's name is Emily, but she went on a trip two months ago and she hasn't returned... The operator, trying to contain her emotions, told the girl: I'm going to try to contact heaven to see if we can contact your mother, the girl very happily and cordially told her: I'll be waiting here.
