Chapter 17.
An angel and a demon.
Glades had managed to locate a small portrait that she had made in her house about Emily through facial scans. She couldn't waste the opportunity to find her again through some clue that led to her current address... in this way and with a lot of patience, she was able to find her location and notice that they weren't very far away, in fact, they were only about fifteen kilometers apart, but ¿how was it possible that she had never seen her? ¿Or did Emily not live there?... whatever the case, she decided to go and find out if Emily and her daughter still lived there, or at least one of them.
Along the way, Glades came across many crows that somehow fell when they passed near her, which was strange considering that she was alone, but this was no impediment. She saw some dark vans passing slowly as if they were watching her from the inside.
That feeling made her stomach turn, it was very similar to how she felt when she saw Chester, but he couldn't be here, that's what she repeated religiously...
Glades found Emily's house, or at least the one that her search on the Internet had thrown up, her hands were sweaty and her heart was racing, she was about to meet someone who had lived through the same thing as her and both had survived.
Without thinking, she rang the doorbell and a slightly older lady with a sweet appearance and blue eyes came out and asked her what she wanted, then she asked her if Emily was home, the lady then nodded and said: come in, she will come in a moment.
Glades, upon entering, saw pictures of Emily everywhere, from when she was a child to when she was an adult.
She also saw pictures of the old lady's deceased partner and Emily's daughter... there were some toys on the floor, which indicated that a child did indeed live here. Some walls had small hand-drawn scribbles on them, and she laughed, thinking that those were the little pranks that happen when a child finds some colored pencils.
So, two minutes later, Emily looked out and, upon recognizing Glades, hugged her and asked her to keep quiet about what had happened, because she didn't want her mother or her daughter to find out what had happened. Glades agreed, and they both went to the backyard, which was planted with a sunflower crop, where they could talk more calmly, since no one could hear or see them.
Getting down to business, Glades insisted that she should help her by going to testify, because only in that way would they be safe, but Emily flatly refused, claiming that she would be pointed out by the rest of the people and they could even blame her for not having helped those people to get out of that place, to which Glades refuted her by telling her that it was impossible that she could have helped anyone to escape from there…
That each room is worse than the previous one and not only that, because he has the people divided into groups and they would never be able to find them all, but I know that like you, there are also other people out here who would possibly feel motivated to testify against him.
Finally, Emily agreed, but almost instantly her gaze focused on a person coming out from behind a tree and when she realized it was Chester, her breathing stopped, she couldn't speak, she had the look of terror and the most abject panic...
Glades, noticing this, followed her gaze and realizing who she was looking at, took Emily's hand and ran, almost dragging her into the sunflower patch, and it was then that she saw him running towards them, so they separated and ran terrified, tripping and falling repeatedly, while in the midst of their anguish, they tried to use the sunflower patch to their advantage, crouching down and starting to crawl hastily so that he couldn't see them and thus be able to save himself.
However, Glades had been reckless, as she had not realized that he had left the sunflower field and gone to the other side of the city. When she realized this, she turned around and noticed that he was no longer there, then looked around, took a long breath to calm herself, and then went back ready to help Emily.
For his part, Chester used the same techniques as Emily and found her easily, immediately knocking her down to the ground and placing his body on top of hers, immobilizing her, so Emily told him: have mercy, if you don't want to do it for me, do it for your daughter, you can't be such a cruel and heartless person, I'm sure there must be something good left in you...
Then, Chester smiling, brought his face just inches from hers and said: you are my most beautiful and precious sunflower Emily, I will not allow the sun to burn your wings, so she told him: I promise that I will change my name, I will move to another country and I will forget everything that has happened, but please let me go...
As she begged him, he began to give small, soft bites on her sensitive skin near her jugular, making her tremble, and it was no wonder.
Meanwhile, with quickened steps, Glades got a little closer to the area where they were, but she couldn't see them, which allowed her frustration and anxiety to increase, he had probably already taken her somewhere else, so blaming herself she screamed so loudly that it was heartbreaking the way she did it, while Chester looked into Emily's eyes and placed his lips on hers to prevent her from responding in the same way with a scream.
Glades gave up and left those sunflowers to leave, but before doing so she saw Emily's daughter in the yard with a crown of fake sunflowers and a dress of these same flowers, with a smile on her face and playing with water in the garden, then smiling she said to herself: I'm going to bring your mom back, no matter what it costs me, I'm going to do it.
For her part, Emily remained in the same place with that man on top of her, afraid of what could happen; and unconsciously her hands began to dig into the ground until she felt something sharp and did not hesitate to grab it, but she could not raise her arms and make a movement to defend herself, he would notice it and before she could take out that sharp object, he would have already attacked her, then Chester stood up and extended his hand to help her stand up, but she did not accept it and said to him: go to hell.
Smiling, he told her: my beautiful sun, my beautiful sunflower, the most beautiful of all angels like you, cannot fly to hell with demons like me, but I can show you and make you live as if you had entered the underworld.
Emily didn't think twice and took the sharp object, put it on her neck and with all the strength she had she cut her own throat, dying instantly. When he noticed that she had died, he took a photo of her, went over and covered her body with the soil from the sunflowers, setting fire to that beautiful flower field, because that land was his and he could do it.
So, before leaving, he looked around the yard at his daughter, one of the many he had and his heart felt strange, he knew that the girl would die soon, but even so, he didn't want to let her die, so he opened the trunk of his car, removed the background that was in it and mixed an antidote that would freeze the poison inside her for a period of time and that would soon kill her.
So, Chester approached the girl and asked her if she was alone, to which the little girl replied that her mother had gone out to talk to a friend and that her grandmother had fallen asleep in the living room... Then smiling, he asked her: and ¿Aren't you afraid to talk to me?, then the girl told him: I'm not afraid to talk to you because I feel familiar in some way with your face, maybe it's because I look like you, so joking, Chester told her: let's see if it's true, now stand in profile and now stand in front and I'll tell you if we really look alike, the girl did and he told her: we are similar, but we don't look alike, just look at yourself, you're 1.30 while I'm almost 1.90... laughing the girl told him, it's true, we don't look alike, you're just a giant and I'm a dwarf, he nodded and said: I heard from your mother that you like cranberry juice and I had a bottle of juice left over, ¿what do you say if we drink it while we're at it we see this beautiful sunset?... The girl nodded and he gave her the antidote disguised in a cranberry juice he had in the car and made sure she drank it all, then once she finished it, he told her: take care little sunflower and don't fly near the sun.
