Thank you for this. This is so true. The struggle for women in first world countries is so real but no one talks about it. I was raped twice. The first time I was 3. People still ask what I was wearing. I started taking contraceptives when I was 15 to help regulate my painful periods and was almost kicked out of school for being a "slut" and a "bad influence" on the other girls. I have a degree in microbiology and make less as a researcher than my male friend who never went to college. The sexism practiced by policy makers is staggering. When a bill to remove the "luxury item" tax on tampons and pads was suggested, there was extreme protest from congress, with one representative even stating "If women don't want to pay that much for tampons or pads, they should just go back to what they used before." Rags. We used rags.
