I have always been so careful with my heat, why would this happen to me?
I was so careful not to be too close to Jayden as soon as the alarm went off on my phone, alerting me that my heat season started. As in I could get struck by heat at any second now.
I have kept a safe distance from him as he understood I could not risk getting caught near him when that happened. I was doing what was expected of me, putting in the work to protect myself.
I was safe inside my dorm room after breakfast on Sunday. Sean had invited Seth out for a morning stroll around the estate, so I was alone inside the room.
I wasn't in the mood to see anybody, so there I would stay until lunchtime. I took a nap but was awakened by three knocks on my door. I was surprised to see Skylar standing there when I opened up, but he came to apologize to me for his actions earlier that day.
He was nice and courteous, which should be a red flag all in itself that something bad was about to happen…
When he was already outside of the dorm room, my heat struck. I thought I was done for, lost, ruined. There is no one coming to save me, nobody here to cry for help. And I wouldn't even if I could.
As soon as my heat struck, my brain chemistry was altered, making me crave an Alpha to take me in his arms and make me his.
The result of this event was that when Seth returned to our room, he found me lying on the bed wearing only underwear with his brother by my side shirtless.
As if this wasn't mortifying enough, he was accompanied by Sean and Jayden, the three of them stared in shock at the shocking scene.
Seth screamed as he caught us together in utter horror. Jayden became possessed by rage, stomping the ground as he entered the room.
“He's in heat!” Seth warned him, though his anger wasn't targeted at me.
Jayden forcibly pulled Skylar away from me in a violent move, then pushed him out of the room angrily. I whimpered at the loss of his contact.
Seth hurriedly got me a bottle of water and the heat medicine and basically forced me to take it while I was suffering from the loss of Skylar's warm skin.
Outside of the room, Jayden is raging at Skylar, eyes glowing in an anger never seen before from him.
“Motherfucker!” He punched him before he was contained by Sean - who got caught in the crossfire. It was a hard enough punch to knock him to the ground.
“What the fuck were you doing in his room? You knew he was in heat season! Did you really have to go all this way just to tear us apart?” Jayden cried out to Skylar, who was now recuperating from the punch and the stupor of being under the effect of my heat.
“I am so sorry… I swear I did not do this on purpose!” He defended himself, wiping off the blood smeared from his mouth.
“Bullshit! You knew what you were doing! To you, it's just an easy payout but you ruined his life! Now you made it impossible for me to claim him, you fucking psychopath!” He growled at Skylar in the middle of the hall - which thankfully was empty at this hour - still being restrained by Sean from attacking him again.
“Jayden, I didn't–”
“You monster! You ruined my life! You ruined HIS life! Congratulations! Now I can't have the one person I wanted. I will never forgive you for as long as I live. You are dead to me!” Jayden snarled at him, breaking down in tears.
The Alpha broke down in never ending sobs that were like a stabbing pain in my heart. Meanwhile, I was slowly regaining my full mental capacity. His wailing pierced through my heart like a sharp knife causing despair to take over me.
Seth showed torment in his moist eyes, sharing worry for me. His heart broke at the unexpected situation.
“Dude, why did you come to his room? What could you possibly have to do there? He already had a strike against him being a scholarship student, did you have to rape him too? What could you possibly have to gain from this?” Sean spoke up, looking disappointed at Skylar, a disgusted expression on his face. He felt repulsed by his actions, nothing could justify this and everybody is pretty sure he was not invited here by me. That much was obvious.
“I did not rape anyone!” Skylar seethed, defensively.
“You may not have to force yourself on him, but taking advantage of his heat is sexual assault in my book.” He argued, disappointed in him.
Meanwhile, Jayden was kneeling on the ground, wailing and gasping for air. He was so broken up about this. It really messed him up.
“Congratulations, Alpha. You can have the room all to yourself now. I am done with this place. I don't ever want to see your face again!” Jayden exclaimed, getting up from the ground completely heartbroken.
“Listen to me, I did not have sex with Jake, I swear!” Skylar stepped in front of Jayden to speak, looking directly at him.
The Alpha boy slapped his roommate in repulse.
“Stop lying! You are disgusting! I never thought you would stoop so low! You ruined his life, psycho! All he wanted was a true partner and you robbed him of that!” Jayden snarled at him while bawling his eyes out, revoltingly.
“He isn't lying.” I declared in a somber tone as I appeared in the hall, just outside of my room. I was looking directly at Jayden as I said that, even though he had his back turned in my direction. By now, I am already dressed.
He scoffed.
“How is that even possible? We found you two in bed together. You were just in underwear…” He turned around to confront me, sounding doubtful. Suspicious.
“Yes, you did and I am truly sorry for that. You have to know that I never meant for that to happen, I didn't invite him to my room–”
“I don't blame you, Jake. I know you are innocent and a victim of this predator.” He cut me off, glaring daggers at Skylar in the process.
“I don't know why, I don't know how, but Skylar never touched me. I am still the same virgin you met before. I promise you.” I declared with firm conviction.
Jayden looked at me and then at Skylar incredulously. Even Sean and Seth were dumbfounded by this.
“How is that even possible? I thought heat was impossible to resist!” He challenged me, looking rather suspicious at Skylar and me.
“They usually are. I don't know how Skylar was able to resist it but the boldest thing he did to me was hugging me. The reason why you found me in underwear is because I undressed myself, I was feeling hot.” I clarified, mortified to be forced to admit this to him.
Jayden was taken completely by surprise. He did not expect this at all. Neither did Sean or Seth, for that matter. All of them were staring at me in shock.
“This doesn't excuse your actions. You still came into his room alone while he was in heat.” Jayden glared death daggers at Skylar as he turned to him.
“I know and I am sorry for that, but I could never live with myself if I were to do the thing I was accused of. I would rather claim him than have an illegitimate child.” He spoke, not exactly making me feel any better about it.
“I need to be alone now. This has been too much for me.” Jayden declared, walking away.
“I really am sorry for everything.” Skylar told me, sounding remorseful. Then he walked out. Sean said goodbye to Seth and went about his way.
Seth and I went inside our dorm room and talked at length. I told him everything that happened between me and his brother, I didn’t spare him any detail no matter how mortifying it was for me to tell him. I don’t want us to have any secret between each other - especially involving his twin brother, though I never thought any of this could happen.
How did I get here? I was minding my own business, taking my time alone to wait for my heat to start. I did not ask for any of this to happen. I did not bring this upon me by putting myself in danger. I was alone inside my dorm room, for crying out loud! The only person who should be inside with me was my roommate.
Less than an hour later, it was time for the lunch break. Jayden was nowhere to be found in the dining hall, just the other students most of whom were oblivious to the drama that had unfolded earlier. Skylar was wracked with guilt when he saw me again and apologized once more, discreetly.
But what actually worried me the most was Jayden’s absence. Will he ever forgive me? Can we make it past this? I understand it was not easy for him to see me in bed with another Alpha in minor clothing, but I do hope our relationship is salvageable.
I don’t have any other prospects besides him, so if he loses his interest in me then I am done for. My whole scholarship has gone to waste. Please, Goddess, I can not lose such a formidable guy like Jayden. I did nothing to deserve this.
Later that evening, the students assembled for the weekly mandatory meeting with Headmaster Lockwood. It was how Ravenwood started its week, welcoming back the students who went home for the weekend. It also serves as a roll call because they register our presence at the Stronghold Auditorium.
“Good evening, students. Welcome to another week here at the Ravenwood Academy. This week we will be having the first of four student mixers, the Fall Ball. In this event, certain rules must be obeyed. In Victorian Era London, the single ladies of high society had a dance card attached to their wrists for the gentlemen to sign themselves up to take them to the dance floor.” He greeted us with surprising news.
The students broke out in whispers about this and he demanded them to be quiet, loudly.
“As I was saying, it was the custom of the era for women of society and when their dance cards were full, they could no longer accept any further invitations from the single gentlemen. All Alphas and Betas are required to dance with the Omegas and Gammas. No exceptions.” He announced, though by now it was not a surprise since he was leading up to this. Still, plenty of people were discouraged by this news.
“If your dance card is not signed by every Omega and Gamma enrolled in this Academy, you will serve detention. Yes, I am talking about clean-up duty. So, unless you want to spend the weekend scrubbing toilets, I’d suggest dancing. It’s like a reverse ‘Footloose’, if you don’t dance then you’re breaking the law.” He said in a joking manner, but only a few students laughed. The faculty present humored him nonetheless.
“This is designed to make you spend time with all the available students here, people you might not take notice of or even given the time of day… I’ve seen magic happening in these balls, so don’t count it out just yet.” He continued in a good mood while most of the students looked bored at him.
“I hope you have a pleasant week of studies. See you all tomorrow.” He concluded and the hordes of students started dispersing from the auditorium, all of them commenting on the upcoming ball.
I looked for Jayden as I exited but he was purposefully staying away from me, intentionally a fair distance from where I was. I guess he still needs some time.
My roommate immediately took my side of the story and understood completely that I was the victim of the situation and did not judge me at all.
There is an advantage of being among other Omegas, nobody else can relate to us the way they do. It's an instant connection. In the same way, straight people cannot fully comprehend what it is like to be queer. However, the werewolf world is much less divisive in that regard.
Our division lies in breed, not sexuality or gender identity. Not since Omegas started walking the Earth a few thousands of years ago.
Sean kept Seth company in the evening after the assembly before dinner was served. Then we were back at taking our meals in sections. Alphas, Betas, Gammas and us, Omegas.
Jayden was distant from Skylar in the Alpha section. He wasn't talking to anyone and I felt so bad for the situation.
I guess there is nothing I can do now other than give him the time he so clearly needs. But I miss him. He has been a constant here since my first day of school.
On Monday, the day began with a raucous over the upcoming ball. The school faculty started distributing the dance cards for Alphas and Betas. Meanwhile, delivery vans would slowly pile up on the patio.
I guess they do take stuff seriously here… it's only the first day of the week.
Classes went by like a normal day, except Jayden was nowhere near me. In the few classes we shared he sat far away from me. Even the other students noticed our unusual distance from each other.
But the worst was yet to come.
In combat lessons where the students learn advanced fighting techniques, Jayden was supposed to spar with Skylar but things got so bad he drew blood. The teacher had to stop the lesson and separate the two of them before things escalated further.
Jayden was sent directly to his grandfather afterward. Skylar showed up to lunch with a swollen lip and a bruised back.
It wouldn't take long for people to gossip about the roommates' feud, and it's only a matter of time until they trace it back to me. Gasp!
Tuesday was an unusual day. Instead of afternoon classes, we had dance practice. Yes, really. There is an art to it, a finer form. Everybody is supposed to share at least one dance and that has to follow a certain protocol.
Still, no Jayden in sight. I was partnered with a student at random, a female Beta. She wasn't bad on her feet, but I am having a tough time missing him so badly.
Skylar and his roommate were at odds with each other and now Jayden was suspended from combat classes because of what he did to him.
Instead, he was confined to the library for the period. Meanwhile, Skylar is investing in his relationship with the Gamma girl who Seth and I caught together in our locker room the other day.
Sean is investing in Seth, though I am not so sure they have a future together. England? That is a lot of traveling back and forth to see his family. A very long trip.
I was having dinner in the Omega section of the dining hall with Seth when Jayden finally decided to approach me.
“Hi. I am sorry for being so distant lately. I am just having a tough time getting that scene out of my mind. I promise to reach out soon.” He spoke, offering me faint hope.
“I am here if you want to talk. Anytime.” I told him before he left, a feeling of despair took over me. I obviously know the scene to which he is referring.
When he caught me in bed with Skylar wearing only underwear. Tears pool in my eyes as the feeling of helplessness takes over.
Seth sees this and tries to comfort me, telling me he will come around eventually. That may or may not come to pass, but I'm feeling so untouched right now.
A|N: That is so sad.
I hope y’all are enjoying your time with me so far.
I haven’t even told you the major twist yet.
Next, a shit storm of epic proportions is about to rage in “Believe”.
Tease: I never started a chapter with a slap before... *gasp*
Love,
Léo.
