It was a special weekend for Laughing Matter, having just come back from the Convention of the Dim-witted, when he decided to take a stroll through the park. Wearing his “I’m an Idiot” hat and drinking chip juice he got from the convention, he spotted a woman out of the corner of his eye looking right at him. Feeling quite uncomfortable, he decided to leave and meet up with Slinky.
“Hey bro, I gotta tell you there was this woman in the park that was staring right at me for some reason. It was weird.” Matter said.
“Huh. I wonder why.” Said Slinky looking at his hat on his head and the drink in his hand.
“That’s what I said!” Matter exclaimed.
“C’mon, we’ve got important things to do.” Slinky said as he fired up their vehicle and went off to patrol the town.
As the next day rolled around, Slinky found himself in the supermarket. He weaved between aisles picking up things for him and Matter for their secret base. Just then, as he was walking down one of the frozen aisles, he felt as if he was being watched. He turned around and saw a woman who was intensely looking right at him. Something was off but he didn’t want to cause a scene in the supermarket so he paid for his groceries and promptly left.
Back at their base, Slinky said “Hey Matter, I think I might’ve seen the woman you were talking about yesterday.”
“I knew it! I’m not crazy!” Said Matter.
“Well, that’s still up for debate but I think we should do some surveillance and see if we can figure out her deal.” Slinky suggested.
“So what you’re saying is…We should keep an ‘eye’ out for her?!” Matter said excitedly.
Slinky sighed and said, “Yes, Matter, that.”
For the next several days they kept running into the woman time and time again. Finally, on one of the occasions, they spotted her walking down the street and decided to follow her since she hadn’t seen them yet. She turned down an alleyway and they blocked her from escaping.
“Ma’am I’m going to ask you to stay where you are.” Slinky ordered as he walked over and put cuffs on her.
“Who are you, lady?” Matter questioned.
The woman grumbled and then said “You should know. You took my position! You stole my career!”
“Wait…of course! Miss Sprinkle! I heard you used to be a lead detective at the station. But, what are you doing creeping around?” Slinky said.
“I’m out of a job because of you two! They didn’t need me anymore so they laid me off and I had nothing. But I had a plan. I was going to make you both pay. It would’ve been perfect, you see? Create an incident with the both of you smack in the middle of it. Then, I would heroically swoop in and solve the case and put you out of commission.” The woman explained.
“Okay, uh crazy. But there’s one thing that still doesn't make sense. How did you know where we were all the time?” Matter interjected.
“I figured that one out, actually.” Slinky chimed in as he reached over to the woman’s face and put his fingers on her right eye and pulled it out of its socket.
“It’s a fake glass eye. On the inside, there’s a small camera that was recording our movements.” Explained Slinky.
“Woah, talk about overkill.” Said Matter.
They threw the woman in the back of their car and brought her down to the station where they discovered she also was wanted for committing grand theft auto recently. After throwing her in jail, the boys returned to their base to relax and eat some lunch.
“Duck burger?” Matter said as he offered Slinky a weird-looking burger.
“I’ll pass.” Said Slinky.
It would seem there was never a dull moment when it came to our heroes. In fact, that reminds me of another time our heroes encountered a strange case. Even though you may have been wrongly accused of a crime, sometimes to prove your innocence you need to fight for your rights. And that’s just what happened in our valiant heroes' next adventure!
