Sagea is given a quaint yet cozy room in the lower deck of the vessel. All the candidates have their own rooms, but none of them have left them to explore. Her room is near the bow with an oval window overlooking the ocean, giving her a wonderful view of the stars and moons.
She paces back and forth, looking for what else they’ve offered for her. She didn’t forget about her own bag that contains a few articles of clothing, several food rations from her isle and tons of gifts from the neytives of Aurist.
The ones who organized the Knyghts Voyage gave her a bed with silk sheets and an assortment of pillows. There’s also a chest filled with rich food and drinks that she never tried before. A new set of clothes are laid out on the bed along with a medallion stitched into the sleeve. All these things aren’t permanent, but they’re simple things she’s excited for.
Sagea decides to try on her new clothes first, leaving the contents in the chest second and dozing off in a fresh new bed for last.
She removes her dirty clothes and discards them in the corner of the room. Soon she stands bare and walks over to a full length mirror. She takes in every part of her body, running her fingers over her arm and feeling the smooth texture of her skin. The oils of a certain flower are working miracles for her.
Her hand moves from her shoulder to her hair, where she flicks strands between her fingers. From the roots her hair is green and they flow to the tips which are brown. She focuses on her prominent features such as her waist, chest and legs. Her body is slim and layered with an even tan skin tone. She looks back up to her head and pulls back strands of her hair, revealing her pointed ears.
Most neytives from her trybe see her as the most beautiful neytive ever born on the island. She hears how beautiful she is every time she wakes up and how she's one of a kind. Some neytives desperately seek her attention, while others have grown envious of her attraction.
Sagea understands the word beautiful, but she never fully saw herself as that. With beauty comes tiny flaws.
Her hair is two colors instead of one, she has a small mole below the corner of her eye, and she walks with a limp on her right foot. Regardless of these flaws, the neytives still adore her beauty.
A part of her wonders if that’s the reason Chancellor Prime chose her.
Sagea’s thoughts come back to her when she hears a knock.
She opens the door to find a neytive from another trybe in front of her. He has a lean muscular build, soft light green hair and strange markings along his forearm. He appears to be the same age as her, give or take 100 revolutions.
“The Chancellor has prepared a recording on this holocard that you should see before…” the neytive stops talking for a moment. His face turns red once he looks at her.
Sagea wonders why he stopped, but remembers that she was changing into her new clothes.
“Before… We… Ahem… We will be arriving at the last island to pick up the last candidate. Once we have everyone accounted for, we will move on with our next step. The Chancellor would like you to be properly suited for the Knyghts Voyage,” the neytive hands her the holocard, but also adds something with a shaky voice. “Please, put some clothes on.”
With that being said, the neytive left with a bright red blush over his cheeks. He didn’t give Sagea a chance to talk. She closes the door and sits on the bed, activating the holocard with the swipe of her finger.
The holocard displays four icons in front of her, floating around in its own center of gravity. She taps an icon with a hollowed out core.
The rest of the icons fade into the holocard and the image of Chancellor Prime appears. She sits behind a glass desk with her lime green hair braided into a bun. Her goggles adjust her eyes to the point where they’re enlarged. On her desk is a cluster of holocards displaying random graphs and profiles of neytives, most likely the candidates she chose.
Chancellor Prime looks up and relieves a cough from her throat. “Hello. This recording will give you a quick briefing over the history that Myalón has endured. For those who do not understand the purpose of the Knyghts Voyage, watch until the end.
“Long before the founders of Myalón began to colonize this exoplanet, they believed that the merging species could bring a greater calling for the future. They believed that forging the alliances between countless trybes can be achieved. With no need for conflict, no need for selfishness, no need for prejudice, and no need for loss.”
Sagea pulls her knees into her body and listens intently to the Chancellor’s words.
“This course of action was almost obtained and many neytives were pleased for it to become a reality. Unfortunately, there were those who did not view others as equals or deserving. They are those who sought dominion over Myalón for its resources.
“Shortly after several uprisings, a majority of trybes started to commit acts of violence and treason. Many neytives were killed in the most gruesome ways imaginable; torture, burnings, drownings and homicides. This chain of events led to what most of us know as the Trybal War.
“This war went on for 2’400 revolutions, until certain countermeasures were called upon to win against this growing feud. After the conflicts on the islands settled down, the previous Chancellor still felt it was necessary to make a symbolic point. He wanted to incinerate the mere thought of the Trybal War and avoid another uprising. The Chancellor managed all the profiles of those who were either involved in the war or offered aid to those who committed unforgivable crimes. He gathered all the neytives and held them accountable for their actions against Myalón. The punishment came to a unanimous vote. Execution.”
The room fell silent. Sagea can feel the rocking of the ship make the tense knot in her stomach grow tighter.
“I understand that bringing up a topic such as this is unsettling and frustrating for all of us, but it is necessary to fix what we seared into this planet. I will not tell you of the events that took place during and after the execution. I want to spare everyone the heartbreak and anger.”
She didn’t realize she was crying to what the Chancellor was saying.
Most of the neytives don’t see the Chancellor as suitable to run Myalón, but Sagea had great respect for Chancellor Prime. She wasn’t ruling this planet with strict demands and brute force. She was actually trying to bring the trybes together again. Something no other neytive was willing to do.
Sagea wipes the tears from her face and pulls her attention back to the holographic version of Chancellor Prime.
“Ever since I was elected the new Chancellor, I had to read over these horrible events, not able to bring back what we lost all those revolutions ago. Then, I started to search through past accords our founders kept hidden for future developments. One accord kept me from sleeping for dials, until I felt that it met up to not just my standards, but the neytives on this planet.”
The Knyghts Voyage.
“I will go into further explanation as to what this certain accord is and how it will benefit all the trybes in another section of the holocard. I want to close this recording with what I know and feel about the history of Myalón.”
Chancellor Prime rearranges her stance, appearing more confident. “I believe Myalón is still the planet our founders believed it to be. It was meant to flourish in our presence. It was meant to bring out the best of us and give our next generation a chance to prosper. I want Myalón to live and unify.”
The image disappears into the holocard and brings back the four icons. Another one blinks before her, ready to be opened.
Sagea swipes the holocard and all the icons disappear. She feels overwhelmed after hearing the Chancellor’s speech. She can’t handle listening to the next recording with her voice. For once, she feels happy to hear someone else say the exact words she wanted to say for revolutions, but never mustered the courage to speak up for herself.
The holocard is gently placed on the bed while she grabs a hot towel from the chest. She rubs the filth off her skin and discards the cloth along with her clothes.
Sagea goes back to her bed and drapes her new clothes over her body. It’s a perfect fit, with a strap to adjust around her waist and not too itchy fabric. The fresh new clothes send goosebumps through her body.
The feeling of the Knyghts Voyage is exhilarating that she can’t help but smile in delight.
