Back in the library office, amidst the chaos of darkness, Rey's relentless electrocution of the boy continued. Then, abruptly, the boy's screams ceased, replaced by a heavy silence broken only by the crackling current around Rey's hands. Then, from the boy, a chilling, knowing chuckle resonated.
"My… my… my…" the boy muttered, his voice laced with ancient wisdom. "Why are humans still this foolish after thousands of years?"
As his brief speech ended, a violent gust, like a tornado, erupted around him. But it was no mere wind; it was a swarm of black shadows, sharp as blades. Rey, who had been standing behind the boy's chair, was cast aside by the force of the shadowy maelstrom.
"I did it," Rey murmured from a distance, a smile of triumph on his lips. "God Aphotic is here!"
The boy, now a vessel for the deity, effortlessly snapped the ropes binding his arms to the chair. "Humans, are you aware that there's a proper way to break our seals?" he asked while inspecting the indentations made by the ropes at his wrists. "We rulers should be awakened through our sacred rituals," he continued, imparting some knowledge about his kind. "I am sorely disappointed that I didn't see her."
Shadowy figures formed and rose from the ground like sinister vines. Horn-like shadow appendages materialized, floating beside the boy's head. He now bore the visage of a devil, with an army of shadows at his command, poised to unleash havoc.
"What you've all done to me is blasphemy!" he declared, anger lacing his voice. Whip-like shadows and two pairs of hand-shaped claws erupted from his back, unfolding like dark wings. With a swift motion, one shadow claw lashed out at a student in a black hood who had been watching from the corner. The student raised his arms in defense, but the formidable shadow crashed him against a bookshelf. Books flew in every direction, and a loud thud echoed as the wall buckled under the impact.
"Pathetic," the god within the boy sneered as the huge shadowy fist crushed the student against the wall, blood dripping and bones breaking. "I was right after all. Humans never change. They are still weak and easy to crush like little insects."
Despite the cuts and bruises marring his face, the boy adjusted his posture in the chair, exuding an air of regality. He smiled, like a god upon his own throne in Hell.
"Unlike my brothers and sisters, I despise being a follower," he declared. "I started the past gods' war because I don't like being bound by any kind of rules. And if that's the same reason why I am here, to be an instrument and tool for you humans???... Then consider me your enemy."
The soldier's grip on his rifle tightened, his resolve steeling. "Tch! You may be our god, but you're now inhabiting a mortal vessel!" He aimed the gun at the boy, his voice steady despite the gravity of his words. "If we can no longer negotiate with you, then I have to kill your vessel as per my orders." He swallowed hard, mustering all his courage to threaten the reborn god. "I'm just doing my job, Lord Aphotic."
Tony, alarmed, tried to intervene. "Are you crazy—"
BANG!!
The rifle's trigger was pulled without hesitation. The bullet sped towards the boy, who merely smirked as one of his shadow tentacles deftly intercepted the projectile. "HAH! How amusing…" he scoffed.
The possessed child remained unharmed, the bullet shell clinking against the floor as the shadow tentacle acted as a steel bullet-proof barrier. The soldier, driven by terror, fired his rifle continuously, a futile attempt to penetrate the god's invulnerable shadow defense.
Finally, the gun clicked empty. "SH*T!!" the military man cursed, still desperately pulling the trigger.
The boy's evil grin widened. "Guess it's my turn now," he said, lifting his right arm. A black tentacle pierced through the shadow barrier, morphing into a hand that lunged at the soldier like a viper, ensnaring his entire body.
"Well, well, well… What did you say again? Kill me?" he laughed darkly. "HAH! I am the God of Death; you don't have the power to decide who lives or dies. I am the ultimate judge of life and death."
The shadowy hand tightened its grip on the man's body without mercy. The rifle he dropped hit the floor as the soldier gasped for air. "AHHHH!!!" he screamed in pain.
The boy propped his right arm on the armrest, resting his chin on his knuckles, looking bored. "Boring… This is boring. Your anguish bores me to death," he chuckled. "Can you scream louder than that and a bit better this time?"
Rin trembled, her voice barely a whisper as she reached out to the boy. "B-Baby… Please s-stop…"
Tony, his voice weak but determined, held her hand. "Rin… He's not our son anymore… you have to get out of here now…" His fist glowed faintly as his strength began to return. "Go… Take Tedd and the others to safety. Find Glenn. He's a fate guardian, remember? He's the only one who can escape from the God of Death."
Rin's eyes widened in disbelief. "W-what? But honey—"
A horrific sound cut her off. "AAHHHHHH!!!" SQUASH!!! The soldier's body, compressed by the god's power, exploded in a gruesome spectacle.
Blood splattered across Rin's face, her astonishment clear. "N-no… Tony…" She clung to her husband, begging. "We should escape together…"
Tony gently wiped the blood from her face, his smile tinged with sadness. "I can't…" He placed his hands on the ground, summoning a protective barrier around them. "I'm sorry, Rin… but I have to buy you some time. The God of Death can't be controlled."
Rin's face showed pure terror. "No, honey. You can't—"
"I have to," Tony insisted, his smile gentle. "I love you, Rin. Look after Tedd for me."
With tears streaming down her cheeks, Rin nodded. "I'll wait for you outside, Tony."
"Just go!" Tony urged.
Rin got to her feet, her legs trembling with fear. She gave one final, sorrowful glance at the boy who was once her son and left the room, abandoning the protective barrier and the man she cherished.
Rey laughed from the corner, enjoying the turmoil. "Hahaha!!! That's the god of death for sure."
Hearing Rey speak, The boy, now a vessel for an ancient and malevolent force, shifted his focus to him. "Ah, so you're the one who roused me."
He moved toward Rey, his eyes shining a menacing red, his presence of death strong and intense. "You… worthless trash," he mocked.
Rey grinned, unbothered. "You're no threat to me."
As the boy advanced, Rey prepared himself, electricity sparking in his hand. "I'm not scared of you. Take this!" He thrust forward, releasing a flurry of electric bolts.
Yet the boy seized his hand with ease, the electricity ineffective. "Hahahaha! What's this? Trying to tickle me?"
Rey's eyes widened in disbelief. "Fine, I'll just ramp up my electric charge. HAHHH!" His body surged with even more power.
The boy gave a dismissive smirk. "Your power is but a grain of sand against the true might of the Goddess of Light. I've withstood her torment for millennia. Your efforts are futile."
Suddenly, it was the boy's turn. A shadowy tentacle from his back wrapped around Rey's neck, choking him. "You should never have been blessed by that power. You are a total disappointment and a mockery of her grace. But thanks for waking me up. In return, I'll show you a faster way down to hell."
The shadow blade-like tentacles tightened, and with a chilling finality, Rey was decapitated. His head fell to the floor, followed by his lifeless body, both painting the carpet a vivid red.
The boy's shadowy tentacles, now coated with Rey's blood, flung droplets across the walls. A few specks landed on his cheek, which he wiped off nonchalantly with a finger, smirking as he sampled the bitter taste.
"Ugh… Your blood tastes awful," he spat in disgust.
After the recent execution, the boy shifted his gaze to the oracle. He observed Tony, who was bleeding profusely and writhing in agony from his injuries. The oracle met his gaze, bracing for the deity's next action.
Well, that must hurt a lot," the boy mused, eyeing Tony's wounds.
He approached the barrier dividing them and taunted, "Knock, knock, Daddy…" A smirk played on his lips as he tapped the barrier, which shattered like glass instantly. Tony's eyes widened in shock.
"You know," the boy continued, pausing to scan the room, "you appeared to be the strongest person here, yet you allowed yourself to be betrayed." He smiled devilishly. "Also… it seems your death clock is ticking very fast right now. I find that sound delightful."
Gasping for air, Tony managed to utter, "Lord Aphotic, I am deeply sorry. I couldn't prevent them from disrespecting you."
The boy halted, then burst into mocking laughter. "HAHAHA! You were never required to defend me, so why apologize? I am a GOD; I don't seek salvation from a mere human. But since I'm aware that you have a parental attachment to my vessel, how about I give you a choice?" His smile was chilling. "I can end your life quickly and painlessly, or I can intensify the poison coursing through you for a swifter demise."
Tony coughed, his voice weak. "I am willing to offer you my life… but please spare the rest of the people around us. This is a school. There are far too many young students here with potential; they deserve to live longer. Please, God Aphotic… They had nothing to do with your awakening."
The boy chuckled coldly. "Know your place, human. I am the God of Death. I decide whether any living creature should live or die. And if I say I will kill everyone, then it is an absolute rule. It is the verdict of a supreme being."
The god's shadow tentacles stirred once more, coiling around Tony's body and hoisting him into the air.
The boy focused on the gunshot wound on Tony's shoulder, while another one of his shadow tentacles deliberately pierced the same spot, provoking a harrowing scream from Tony. "These wounds…" he observed with a mix of curiosity and fascination. "Humans have advanced to this point, now brandishing such strange tools of death. I could use this someday," he mused, glancing at the gun on the floor with disdain and intrigue.
Tony, bloodied and weakening, his body tired of the pain, implored with a cough, "Lord Aphotic, please don't hurt anyone anymore," his voice slowly fading into numbness.
The boy pretended to be worried. "Oh my, oh my. Don't die on me yet. I still need some answers." His tone turned serious. "Where are the other vessels? You are the oracle, and if you found this body—my vessel… then you also knew where the other vessels are. Where are my brothers and sisters' future bodies?"
"You won't get any answers from me, Lord Aphotic," Tony defied.
The boy was visibly annoyed. [This is annoying as hell… What's wrong with this human? I can't read his thoughts…]
Tony managed a chuckle. "So you've finally noticed it, Lord Aphotic? Too bad, you've bestowed my son with that same ability… And now I get to prepare myself for our prophesied meeting. While he was within my care, I found a way to block my thoughts from his mind-reading ability… just like yours."
The boy scoffed. "HAH! So, you thought you could outsmart me? HAHAHAHA! Don't underestimate me, Oracle. I am the God of Death! And I always get what I want! While I am stuck inside this boy's body, I can still command my demon generals in Hell to torture your soul and get the information I want. But to do that, I just need to kill you right here… right now, to deliver your soul down there." He smirked devilishly. "So… Do you have any last prayers for the God of Death?"
With the last of his strength, Tony released his magical aura and used his telepathic ability. His body shone with a fading light as he made his final act.
